Want a review on the gym aka fitness centre? Here it is…read more As far as a gym goes? Hands down, no questions asked, top 5 worst gyms I have ever been to in my life. And I been to gyms in 3rd world countries like Laos and Cambodia. What's a good comparison to this gym? It's like a hotel gym but worse. This gym is very very small. If you actually lift bro, you won't last in this gym. It totally makes sense why you can only book 1 hour and max of 20 people, because if there were 20 people in there, there would be no space left to workout, it's really that small. There's no equipment in this gym, it gives you the bare basic amount of gym equipment to call it a gym, there's like 5 treadmills, 1 stairmaster, a couple bo-flex apparatuses. There's some free weights and some squat racks. But yea this gym is pretty bad in terms of what you have to workout with. If you pay for a community center membership for about $500 a year, you would be bored within a month due to the lack of size lack of equipment. I came without my phone because being on your phone is a huge distraction at the gym, even having ear pods in, you're not gonna totally focus on your workout. Kind of a bad idea because there is NO music whatsoever here. It's deadly quiet. Even the people that lift, the noises of people exercising is quiet, top 5 quietest gyms. Being new to Vancouver, I liked the thought of a "community center" where ppl in the community can get ripped together, but there is none of that in this gym. Definitely a 1 star gym, gonna give it a 2 star reviews, because the center probably does good things for the community, the staff here is friendly, I saw some kids workin out downstairs. Yea you couldn't pay me to workout here again yall. Keepin it real as always

This is a great find for parents with babies or toddlers out there…read more Mount Pleasant Community Centre has a spacious, open space, drop in play time for kids. There's soft mats, jumbo building blocks, feet peddle cars, slides, see-saws and even little picnic tables for snacks. It's only $3 per child and you can let your little one run wild! Well, please make sure to keep an eye on them as well, but this is a wonderful space to let your little one burn off some energy as well as have fun.

Parking isn't as bad compared to the traffic and pedestrians. For the after party and scenery, we knew it'd be good for other families who haven't been to Granville Island for awhile. Plus this centre is a bit heritage like, sure not as modern as the Olympic Village one but it's got character. That's me ;)

I told the desk clerk that I had been a member for over 30yrs and that most of the clerks knew me by name and all they had to do was check my phone number but they kept insisting that I needed photo ID to prove it was me. They wouldn't let me into the class even though the posters stated that all you had to show was your vaccination card and that is all that is required in most places in Vancouver. I was totally very upset by this and Immediately cancelled my classes.

I wasn't impressed with the parking situation. You think for a city recreation centre and all this talk about Canadians being more active they'd make it easier for people to get there and be there. If you're going with sports equipment (like me with my huge badminton bag), the supposed 10-minute walk from the Burrard station can be quite tedious. And it's really more a 20-minute walk. I had to cough up $7 for 2 hours worth of parking! Add that to the $4.25 rec fee (for a 90-minute badminton session) and it got pretty expensive. It really is a rec centre that caters to people who live in the vicinity.

They have super friendly and chatty staff that is always helpful. But many community centres have nice staff. The thing that separates it from many of the other centres are a few policies that make it much nicer to deal with: 1) My schedule doesn't always allow me to commit to signing up for 15 weeks of a sport at the exact same time each week. So I frequently have to rely on stand-by spots which can be hit or miss at many centres where they require you to show up in person to put yourself on the list. But here for all of the sporting times (badminton, basketball, etc.) you can put yourself on a waitlist by calling that morning. They will tell you how likely you are to get a spot so you don't have to go down and then leave disappointed. 2) They take reservations for table tennis over the phone. You don't have to fight with a bunch of aggressive seniors to win the table from them like a pool hall challenge. 3) They don't oversell open sports like some of the other centres. So when you book a spot you are guaranteed play time. This is key. Nothing more frustrating than having to schlep down to get on a waitlist (boo!), get off the waitlist (hooray!), and then find out that the gym is so crowded that you won't get to play much anyway (big boo!). That doesn't happen here. So overall - hooray!

The Kerrisdale Community Centre has a nice indoor pool with lessons for everyone from beginners to people who just want to play in the water. A single visit to an adult to the pool is $5.36. In addition, the centre has a fitness area with a one month pass for adults that cost $30. There is a large basketball court, a youth area, and loads of activities for per-school and school kids. There is also a seniors center and a library under the same roof. I would highly recommend stopping by the centre and grabbing the Recreation Guide with all the details of the Kerrisdale Community Centre. It is well worth your time. I went just a couple of days ago to just sit down in the lobby area and watched people walk by as I studied for a major exam. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Their were several people in and out of the centre of all age groups. There was even a birthday party in one of the rooms that is for rent. Also gorgeous facility . I learned that it was over 15 years old and that they built it for the Olympics, but it seemed To be pretty new . Upstairs there's a curling lounge with a full bar and happy hour ! The locals are spoiled and don't even know it ! If you are local check this place out or even if you are visiting out of town you can still sign up for classes and they are very affordable! Check this place out and support your local rec center!

I love the idea of a community centre with multiple facilities. Gym, pool, skating rink, PLUS a…read morelibrary and café -- check, check, check. And it's modern? We love new, up-to-date facilities. I've used all their facilities except for the skating rink (so I like to think I'm a fairly reliable source). You can pay drop-in for gym and/or pool for $7.50 (yep, you can use both facilities in the same day if you want). Gym isn't huge but there are still enough machines/benches/treadmills to go around. You could totally do a full workout without waiting your turn (unless it's after 4 on a weekday, aka peak gym hours everywhere). Pool is one of the best in Vancouver, given that it's new and has a lot of features. A good number of swimming lanes, leisure pools, a lazy river, 3 diving boards, a big hot tub, a sauna (that is not so big) and a steam room. Showers are fine as far as public pool showers go (the curtains don't fully shut but still better than UBC's) and you can bring your own lock for the lockers. I love that there's a library because I can head on over post-workout and enter a different kind of calm, zen mindset as I peruse the shelves. Whose idea was it to attach a library to every community centre (and can we get more of that, please!)? There will always be something to gripe about with every community centre (sometimes there are way too many people in one swimming lane and I'm not sure why they don't open up another), but as far as Hillcrest goes, it has a lot to offer. A really great place to hit up all the facilities in one stop, or to bring the kids along for a fun-filled, athletic and/or academic weekend. Also, the staff is GREAT and so kind. Kudos to them!

A majority of the gym's equipment has been updated with new, smoother, legible, and more padded machines. If it's grey, black, and blue... it's new! The fitness centre has strategically placed TV's with air conditioning to a cool, comfortable temperature as you get your sweat on. Half the gym is lined with windows to allow for natural sunlight and outdoor sights and the other half is lined with mirrors for your viewing pleasure as you count those reps and pump those muscles. Considering the size of the fitness centre, it packs a well-organized and good variety of: - Cardio machines like exercise bikes, rowing machines, step machines, ellipticals and treadmills with screens, iPhone connections, and fans. - Weight training machines to target all the major muscle groups of your body that you desire. - Free weights from 2.5 to 90 lbs with a variety of benches and plenty of mirror space. - Bench press, Squat rack and a Smith machine round out the major equipment. There's so many other equipment choices you can find like jump ropes, kettlebells, resistance bands, weight belts, medicine balls, mats, foam roller, and full and half exercise balls. Not sure where to start? There's always someone in the fitness centre that can answer your questions, and at times there's a certified fitness trainer present. If this isn't enough, the fitness centre pass also includes group fitness classes such as yoga, run clubs, outdoor bootcamp, functionality training and more. Once you're all done and sweaty, change rooms are available with lockers (bring your own lock) and showers outside of the fitness room beside the restrooms. Fitness centre drop-in (as of Fall 2013) is $5.30. There are 10 visit punch cards and monthly options in which the deals get better as more months you buy. A 3 month pass is $98 which works out to be around $30/month. Youth and Senior passes available at a discounted rate. The centre opens Monday-Friday 6am-9:45pm and Saturday-Sunday 8am-8:45pm. Also, the fitness centre is usually open on holidays unlike some other places. No excuses now people - get your pump on! Overall great fitness centre but it does get a little crowded and occasionally slightly smelly when its peak gym times. Regardless, it's a great fitness centre that offers a lot towards your health, fitness and goal in becoming the next Arnold! So get your sweat and reps on fellow Yelpers! ;) FYI: Wi-fi available at TCC, just ask the front desk for the password!

Convenient to get to. It is open to the public for use. People even made good use of the hallway for hip hop classes. They offers daily, monthly and annual passes to use their facilities. It is inexpensive because this community center is for public use and is part of the BC public recreation centers (partially taxpayer funded).

Unfortunately, my 21 year old nephew and I experienced an near fatal drowning in 1 of the deep…read morepools. The life guards were not doing their job and didn't notice my nephew drowning then grab onto me which made me drownd, but luckily I was able to get on to my back to get us safely to the edge of the pool where we could breathe and get all of the water out of our bodies. Now here we are 2 months later and my nephew won't go in the water again because he said "the life guards don't do their job" and is afraid of drowning again. BTW, a life guard did see us, she was casually strolling towards us as we got to the edge of the pool and just asked us if we were ok, as the pool water gushed out of our noses and mouthes. I did make a formal complaint but nothing came it. I also recently spoke with a guard for advice on how to support him with his trauma and the guard said to give him a floating device. So, its hopeless to expect them to care, because they don't.

That said, the nice lady let me go in anyways, commenting herself on all the Parks Board icons everywhere one looks. The fitness centre downstairs is older but very well-equipped and maintained. I don't mind an older gym often times, because generally they will have figured out all the best places to put each piece of equipment and everything is laid out well. This place is no exception. One thing to note about this place, which some may like and others may not, is that this is a place geared mostly towards building muscle. Not a lot of bikes or treadmills, and more machines and benches for performing every possible variation of a chest press than anyone could ever get bored of.
