The lane swimming is pretty organized - you register for a one hour slot, which you can do for the upcoming week. Spots don't seem to fill up that quickly, which is nice - you don't need to wait by your computer. They only have fast and slow lanes though and I think people's interpretations of these are vastly different. Hot tub sometimes seems to be open but sauna is not. Overall a pool that I am grateful to have during these times.

They are hard to get into (you need quick fingers) since they are very reasonably priced. Free parking lot, but heard that's changing to paid parking this summer :( the front desk is always helpful, they have a cafe in the back for a drink or a quick snack. Twice a year (May and Nov), they have a pottery sale from their members and everything is so reasonably priced!

Gym review: it sucks…read more Good job Vancouver to have probably over million dollar worth of space and budgeting for community center and ice rink, yet you created the worst possible gym space. It makes no sense. There are so many reasons why community centre gyms sucks, besides the reason the steam room doesn't work. I have gym'd all over the world not only in the United States and third world countries like Thailand, Laos, Cambodia. This Trout Lake community centre gym is WAYY too small, it's just one upstairs space. There's a free weight area, 2 smith machines, 4 workout machines, 5 treatmills, 3 elipicticals, 2 rowers. There's an outdoor space where people can do workouts in the fresh air, but have the year you can't use it because rain gets onto it. And of course in Vancouver it rains half a year. There is no vibe here. As you can see in my video, it's dead quiet. You can literally hear ghosts here before hearing people workout. There's no music playing, even elevator music would be better than just silence. Everyone here is on their phone and not putting any energy into working out. I personally try to workout without my phone so I can actually put energy and focus into working out rather than wasting time choosing the next on your playlist. You can pay $7 for a drop in workout, which actually isn't a terrible price. So it's quite affordable, but actually the 50-60/month is totally not worth it when you can go to a different gym like fitness world for half the price. Yea these community centre gyms are incredibly disappointing. Vancouver gets all these tax dollars and this is what they give us back in return. Saddd

This is a great place to play ice hockey, indoor soccer or do some ice skating…read more What I love about watching my husband and friends play hockey at 8 Rinks, is that you can watch in the comfort of the restaurant upstairs. You're not pressured to purchase any food or drinks so I like that flexibility. There's a couple of massage chairs in case you wanted to relax and most importantly, it is WARM upstairs. Yay! If you do want to purchase food, I usually order the nachos. The portions are huge and I find they are the tastiest items on the menu. Go for the Irish Nachos if you have room for extra room and deliciousness! http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/p9DWM8w27HhNUgLev1wJEA?select=Q-GBX69EPPuRbjfE48944w (instead of corn tortilla chips, you get deep fried potatoes) Note: There's plenty of parking and it is always free.

One of the nicer ice rinks in town. I heard the Canucks practice here as well…read more Parking is available all over the nice large out front. Free-skates on the weekend are only $8 or so for 75 minutes of skating, rental included. The skates are a little beaten up but this is expected. Interestingly enough, the rink isn't too full at all. There were maybe 40 people at most, which left more than enough room to zip around and do some laps. There are also walkers for those who aren't experts, as well as mini-chairs for the kids. Upstairs there is also a pub (Thirsty Penguin), but I didn't try anything there. If you are looking for a nice cheap place to have fun, whether you're with friends, family, or date, this is actually a surprisingly excellent venue. Recommended.

Thinking of moving into the area, so came here to check out how good the weight room is. The only…read moregood thing about it is that the views are amazing on a sunny day. If you don't live in the area, it's very close to the Main Street skytrain station (about a 2 min walk). Pros: - 2 areas specifically for deadlifting - 1 barbell pad (I need this for barbell hip thrust) - beautiful view of False Creek / Science World - new cable machines - there's an assisted pullup machine - spacious stretching area - they have large lockers (the long ones) - there's an ab wheel Cons: - no smith machine (!!!! What???) - no hip abduction machine - only 4 benches. Bonsor is similar in size and has at least 6 - it's a small gym - some asshole didn't put back the weights in one of the deadlifting area (325lbs). No f-in way am I reracking that. - the only extra barbells are the 2 in the deadlifting area. The other 2 are in the squat rack. At Bonsor, they have 6+ extra barbells that's in addition to the ones in the squat racks and bench press. Won't be going here again, not really worth the price of admission.

*Review based mainly on the Gym*…read more South Surrey Indoor Pool definitely looks like it's been here before the newer gym facilities like Grandview Aquatic Center and South Surrey Recreation Center. The building isn't as bright and doesn't have the fancy upgrades but it still does its job as an aquatic center and gym. I generally only come here if South Surrey Rec is closed (since Indoor Pool will stay open an extra hour on weekends). The gym feels darker and more enclosed with the lower ceilings. It gives off a more underground gym feeling but it still has all the foundational equipment to get your workout done. They have a smith machine, squat rack, free weights, weighted cable machines and weighted bars. Everything is a little dated but still works. A dedicated space in the back for Cardio - equipped with ellipticals, treadmills, stationary and bikes. There's several TVs to view while you do your cardio as well. Overall, you can get a decent workout done without much fuss but make sure to bring your own headphones if you need a good jam to bring on the sweat because they don't play any music overhead. Plenty of free parking on the lot. When you scan in or pay for a drop-in session, they don't do wrist bands here unlike South Surrey Rec. Centre.

While exercising, lose your concentration as your body is licked from head to toe by the scores of overzealous eyes. This is my regular pool now. I learned to swim only in my late thirties. I used to go to Bonsor,…read morebut the chlorine concentration there is higher. Also, the folks at Bonsor can be awkward if you're a woman swimming alone. I've also tried Eileen Pool. Ultimately, I settled on this one because it's newer, more spacious, and forced me to get used to practicing in a pool where I can't touch the floor at all. After a few weeks of regular practice here, I'm no longer anxious when I cross the boundary between the shallow and deep ends (at other pools). As a bonus, I haven't had unsolicited creepy comments from anyone here - they seem to be generally respectful. They also have lockers that you don't need to pay for, nor do you need to bring your own lock. My chlorine sensitivity is usually not triggered by the levels at this pool either. They also have a leisure pool but I find it too warm to swim laps. The one thing to keep in mind is to check the timings when they're operating in a 50 m / 25 m configuration - and whether that overlaps with classes.
