A magnificent glass structure from the main road, this one has some razzle dazzle. Looks and feels like a resort, though it's a community centre feel once you see all the program brochures at the front lobby. Invited here to play basketball once, I may not have the offensive prowness of a Jordan but the defensive skills of a Bird lol. Nice court, spacious and big. Like how there's windows all throughout for natural light unlike those elementary/high schools gyms. And it's truly a rec centre: even yoga, spinning classes, cardio kick box, Steve Nash probably won't survive here lol. In addition, the gym is up to par with new equipment too. Bonus for those parents, even a child baby sitting service, with limited hours. Wondering if this was city's tax dollars. For drop in rates like $3 or $400 for the full year, it's well worth it for the locals here.

What a great facility and much needed upgrade in the City of Langley! If you visited the old…read morefacility then you'll know what I'm talking about. Firstly it is a beautiful, well laid out facility. The space is modern looking, open and inviting. There is a huge living wall, plenty of wood throughout and the water fountains have water bottle fills so they can gauge how many bottles have been reused rather than purchased and potentially thrown out. So smart! There is a nice games room out front and a well appointed workout room, a large gym that can be split into smaller courts to accommodate smaller game play. Above the gym is an indoor walking track. There are also a number of multipurpose rooms to rent. Timms offers a bunch of different classes throughout the year. I appreciate the building because it's a really meeting place, fairly central and easily accessible to anything in the city. Lots of parking below and across the street at the Langley Mall, I haven't ever had to walk far to get back tui my car. I'm addition to that the building also houses the Mayor and City Council Chambers. Go check it out! I like it!

Visited Langley Event Centre for Bandits basketball game (Vancouver vs. Montreal)…read more The premises has free parking which is nice, specially since vancouver event/sport centres don't usually have free parking. Food vendors included: white spot/triple Os, Papa Johns, beer, popcorn, and doughnut booths and a few other vendors. We got the pulled pork sandwich, fries, birria tacos from one of the vendors by the main entrance (I think it was called Northerners or something in those lines). The portions were decent and the dishes were tasty. My only feedback would be that the birria tacos could have used a bit more seasoning. The game was intense and the odds of Vancouver changed multiple times throughout the game. I took away one star because throughout the game they kept on mentioning that if the Montreal team missed 2 free throws in a row everyone would get a coupon for a free A&W burger. Towards the end of the game they missed 1 free throws...they didn't mention where to get them from. I asked the information desk on my way out and they said that there are people handing them out at the exit and if we don't then they are probably out of them...I'm not sure if it is because they didn't have enough to give out or if some people got more than one! (Note: when we left 30-60% of the attendees were still in the Stadium so I'm not sure how they ran out so early).

We saw that the Vancouver Giants would be playing the Saskatchewan Blades. Before we got excited and purchased our tickets, we realized that the arena was about an hour away from downtown Vancouver. Ultimately, this did not deter us and we went out for a game on a Friday night. The arena itself is quaint - that is the best way to describe it. They offer a variety of food, such as burgers and hotdogs as well as poutine. There are milkshakes, popcorn, and of course, beer. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the game, and watching the Vancouver Giants upset the Blades.

My daughter proceeded to take the Learn to Skate 3-6 year old class. The class shared the ice with the 7-12 year old class. Problems began the first few lessons. It appears that Canlan does not use class lists. It's took 1 full session for coaches to organize where each child (aged 3-12, approx. 25-30 kids) would be grouped. Each week coaches would take about 10min of the 25min session to figure out where kids would be grouped. The ratios changed each week. We had multiple sessions with 12 kids to 1 coach. A pair of siblings fought every single class. Pushing each other around on the ice, putting other younger kids at risk of being injured. Refusing to participate, requiring one to one attention from the coach. If recurring issues of this nature are happening the sport centre should set expectations with both the parents and children. The last class we were told that the manager quit and threw away the skating report cards. The children did not receive any skill feedback or review. I actually feel bad for the coaches, it looks like they are figuring it out as they go. 10 min of class setup, 10 min of the coach dealing with uncooperative kids, 5 min of skills. 100% do not recommend.
