It's not just off Hwy #10 but you gotta zig zag past some office complexes, and the parking can be atrocious. Great viewing area for spectators ;) And as the name suggest, the ice is pretty darn good, after all, how much damage can 6 players really do to the ice, lol.

My daughter was in the Learn to Skate - Parent and Child class. My daughter proceeded to take the Learn to Skate 3-6 year old class. The class shared the ice with the 7-12 year old class. Problems began the first few lessons. It appears that Canlan does not use class lists. It's took 1 full session for coaches to organize where each child (aged 3-12, approx. 25-30 kids) would be grouped. Each week coaches would take about 10min of the 25min session to figure out where kids would be grouped. The ratios changed each week. We had multiple sessions with 12 kids to 1 coach. A pair of siblings fought every single class. Pushing each other around on the ice, putting other younger kids at risk of being injured. Refusing to participate, requiring one to one attention from the coach. If recurring issues of this nature are happening the sport centre should set expectations with both the parents and children. The last class we were told that the manager quit and threw away the skating report cards. The children did not receive any skill feedback or review. I actually feel bad for the coaches, it looks like they are figuring it out as they go. 10 min of class setup, 10 min of the coach dealing with uncooperative kids, 5 min of skills. 100% do not recommend.

This review is specifically for the pool(s). The facilities are really good, although the changing…read moreroom/showers are fairly primitive. The salt water pools are both nice--a good sized lap pool and a warmer leisure for water walking and kid fun, as well as a river for floating and relaxing. There is also a giant water slide. The downside is the management of the pools, or lack thereof. Don't expect rules to be enforced, especially in summer, when the lifeguards are almost exclusively teenagers. Kids play in the lap lanes, which disappear with little regard to the schedule. I saw a child dive into the shallow end of the kids' pool and not one of the three lifeguards said anything or perhaps even noticed. Usually there's only one swim lane during aquafit, even if the class is sparsely attended. If you want equipment--water weights, for instance--you often have to hunt down someone to get them for you from a back room. Most gyms I've been to have that equipment readily available. During aquafit classes, the music is so loud that the people in the water often can't hear the instructor, and the instructors are already miked. The volume is headache-inducing at times. Additionally, the music itself is generally very bad. In the morning, it's the same hits of the 70s on a loop ("American Pie" every morning gets old quickly) and in the evenings it's even worse. Little effort seems to go into matching what people in the aquafit classes might enjoy--it's just typical aerobics music, with no imagination or common sense put into the song choice, given that the majority of the people in the classes are 65-plus. (Pre-1960 music actually had a beat--people jitterbugged to it!) I mention music because it's loud, there's no escaping it, and having contemporary country (for example) blaring in your ear isn't always what you want when you're trying to unwind after a long day.

Skates are now $5 CAD and you can even rent spikes to walk around the rink for $2 CAD. If you have your own skates, you skate for free. What a need little venue. Smaller rink than a normal hockey rink but still just as fun! During the holidays it got a bit crowded. Everyone wanted to embrace the holiday spirit and there was a live band playing that night so traffic in and around the area was buzzing. I'll let the pictures and videos do the talking. The staff was courteous and down to earth and they even had lockers for your personal belongings. The plus side is there is a small booth that sells hot chocolate, coffee and other drinks to warm you up. Overall a fun time was had. I'd do it all over again!

When I was a kid my class at school did curling lessons at this rec Centre. The curling "lounge" is…read morereally old and smells musty, and the equipment we used was really worn out. The lessons are taught by volunteers, and they're all elderly people. Call me crazy, but elders + slippery ice doesn't seem like a good combination. One kid actually went to the hospital when we were here because, you know, middle school age boys don't get that ice is slippery I guess? Anyway, the old people running the classes were all very short tempered and mean. I'll admit I didn't love curling, but having an angry old man snapping at me while I was trying my best to get hang of it didn't help matters. They make fun of you and tease you when you mess up. Not fun. As for the hockey rink, it's colder than the arctic circle in there. The heaters above the seats barely help. The skating instructors seem to be kinda out to lunch, and not very good at dealing with kids. The bathrooms are all gross with a capital G. This rec Centre would be so much better if they had a pool. Shouldn't it be written somewhere that community centres need to have pools?

Visited Langley Event Centre for Bandits basketball game (Vancouver vs. Montreal)…read more The premises has free parking which is nice, specially since vancouver event/sport centres don't usually have free parking. Food vendors included: white spot/triple Os, Papa Johns, beer, popcorn, and doughnut booths and a few other vendors. We got the pulled pork sandwich, fries, birria tacos from one of the vendors by the main entrance (I think it was called Northerners or something in those lines). The portions were decent and the dishes were tasty. My only feedback would be that the birria tacos could have used a bit more seasoning. The game was intense and the odds of Vancouver changed multiple times throughout the game. I took away one star because throughout the game they kept on mentioning that if the Montreal team missed 2 free throws in a row everyone would get a coupon for a free A&W burger. Towards the end of the game they missed 1 free throws...they didn't mention where to get them from. I asked the information desk on my way out and they said that there are people handing them out at the exit and if we don't then they are probably out of them...I'm not sure if it is because they didn't have enough to give out or if some people got more than one! (Note: when we left 30-60% of the attendees were still in the Stadium so I'm not sure how they ran out so early).

We saw that the Vancouver Giants would be playing the Saskatchewan Blades. Before we got excited and purchased our tickets, we realized that the arena was about an hour away from downtown Vancouver. Ultimately, this did not deter us and we went out for a game on a Friday night. The arena itself is quaint - that is the best way to describe it. They offer a variety of food, such as burgers and hotdogs as well as poutine. There are milkshakes, popcorn, and of course, beer. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the game, and watching the Vancouver Giants upset the Blades.
