This is a great place to play ice hockey, indoor soccer or do some ice skating. What I love about watching my husband and friends play hockey at 8 Rinks, is that you can watch in the comfort of the restaurant upstairs. You're not pressured to purchase any food or drinks so I like that flexibility. There's a couple of massage chairs in case you wanted to relax and most importantly, it is WARM upstairs. Yay! If you do want to purchase food, I usually order the nachos. The portions are huge and I find they are the tastiest items on the menu. One of the nicer ice rinks in town. I heard the Canucks practice here as well. Parking is available all over the nice large out front. Free-skates on the weekend are only $8 or so for 75 minutes of skating, rental included. The skates are a little beaten up but this is expected. Interestingly enough, the rink isn't too full at all. There were maybe 40 people at most, which left more than enough room to zip around and do some laps. There are also walkers for those who aren't experts, as well as mini-chairs for the kids. Upstairs there is also a pub (Thirsty Penguin), but I didn't try anything there. If you are looking for a nice cheap place to have fun, whether you're with friends, family, or date, this is actually a surprisingly excellent venue. Recommended. read more

The company I work for has a sports event every month and this is where we go for soccer. There was a mix up on the reservation as someone else didn't read their contract to realize they didn't have the field at the time they thought they did so they refused to leave until we called the organizers of the complex. Of course this are into our time so they allowed us to stay extra time since they had no one renting the space after us. This was my first time there and must say, the washrooms are in need of an upgrade and if they do, in guessing the change rooms do too. I also didn't realize that the soccer field was as cold as the ice rinks and wasn't prepared as I was the photographer and not playing. I will bundle up next time. I will be back as this is the best place for our company to play soccer in the winter but I am not sure I would go on my own otherwise. It's not inviting. read more

Ok this is going back but I remember when this was 4 rinks. The new rinks were made on the parking lot from before. Chicken wire was around some of the rinks. Ha ha Its a world class facility now with an artificial ice tread mill. Have spent many a day and night here. The pro shop has everything you need. The parking lot is still huge. The warm lounge and resto are also huge. The menu has the standard fair, burgers fries, coffee, tea and yes beer. Yes Blue is the best rink it's the one the Canucks use. All the rinks 1-4 are good. read more

Our favorite place to drop-by for skate and puck and public skate. The place itself is generally not busy which is great as you get more room skate around. Free parking and lots of spots so parking is never an issue. The staff's pretty chill .. they let you do your own thing. I believe for public skate price is $5 (no skates but more with rental) and S&P is only $10. Don't forget to bring your helmet. Tip: In regards to public skate, the staff does not allow individuals to practice figure skating. Please try to avoid that as everyone on the ice are here for fun or skate for the first time. I guess it's more for a safety precaution. read more

OK. Here's the deal. I know that this is primarily a sports complex and not a eating gallery, but someone still has to say something. Thus place licks donkey butt. The decor is dated and dirty, and often times the windows are fogged up and you can't see the action on the ice. The carpet is dingy and the chairs are often bent and don't sit straight. The food isn't all that good either. If you can ever get the attention of a server, (this place is understaffed) you'll get something that was shaken out of a preformed bag and reheated In your local deep fryer for you. To make things worse, the prices for this frozen junk are more or less the same for a real restaurant with real non bland food. Almost all their dishes taste the same! I've had their bones less wings and they are dry and heavily breaded. I would not get them again. They wanted $11 for that. Another time I wanted a burger Combo and it was $12, but the burger looked like they had just heated it up from a presidents choice bag and cut a floured ciabatta bun in half. The saving grace is that it's pretty hard to screw up nachos. Those weren't too bad, although their salsa is clearly from the bulk section of their sysco ordering guide. I should also note that if I am there watching an hour long game and I order a plate of nachos in the first period, I often don't get them till the third and final period of the game. Don't even get me started on where they came out with changing $7 for beer at this dive. Then I have to wait another thirty minutes for someone to bring me the bill. I come to watch amateur hockey. Not for the food or slow service. I think this much is obvious. 1 Star because I have to go, but my heart wants to pound this place for the poor service and poor food. read more

Great sports facility for soccer, hockey, skating, etc. However, the restaurant is not good. I ordered a house salad and the tomatoes and cucumber were old. The cucumbers were translucent and the tomatoes were soggy. The $1.99 bag of lettuce was turning brown. It was just not good and I'm shocked that they would serve this. My friend got the veg burger (which also came with soggy tomatoes) and she said it was just not flavourful. Not worth eating there. read more

Great rink. I come here for figure skating every Saturday. We always use rink 8, because its for that purpose. It has vents blowing all around the arena and makes it nice and toasty. When you skate you don't even need to wear a jacket, just a shirt. read more

Blue Rink is by far the best one here...better ice, more room behind the benches, and most important of all, the only dressing rooms with the cubby holes above. Makes it a lot easier to lay out the hockey gear. Does cost more to rent, but worth it. and it's the closest one to the front doors too ;) read more

I grew up going to 8 Rinks. Having been a competitive skater I also trained/skatied at many other rinks. All in all 8 Rinks has topped my list of rinks in Canada. It's a larger complex with food, soccer field and a gym to top it off. The feel inside is very cozy, everyone is also very friendly. From the staffs to the patrons everyone is helpful. The place is clean which is a must for me, I can't stand the poorly managed rinks that reek of stinky feet. The gym is full of new equipment and there's everything you could ask for and more! Lots of Olympians and future Olympians train here so you know it's good. Also it's not a bad place to go Canuck hunting, seen then many times here. Parking is plentiful and it's easy to find. Open long hours, early in the morning and even late at night. read more

Terrible arena!!! The ice is garbage, the dressing rooms are in brutal shape, the pro shop has bad service, and the most of the boards are poorly designed (either too high or too low). And the bar upstairs is pathetically bad. Just an awful excuse of an arena. I'd give it 0 stars if I could. read more

Anybody that has grown up in the lower mainland has gone to 8 Rinks for public skating, hockey games and/or the pub upstairs. I've been coming here since I was a kid and the general facilities have not changed much. It used to be called 4 Rinks... The most significant highlights are the figure skating only rink and indoor soccer field. As for the hockey rinks, they are always solid but well used. The changing rooms are the same and will need a bit of a re-model in the near future. If you forgot to sharpen your skates or need to buy equipment, they have a store that sells everything you need including hockey sticks, gloves, shoulder pads, skates, pucks etc. read more

How many rinks does Eight Rinks have? I joke. There's not much to say about 8 Rinks. If you're not a figure skater or hockey player, the rest of this review probably won't matter to you so save yourself some time. Of the eight rinks that, well, 8 Rinks features, one is primarily designed for figure skating, one for indoor soccer leaving the other six for hockey practice and games. The ice quality for the two rinks on the figure skating rink side (I believe they are 5 and 6) are horrendous, rinks 3 and 4 are half-decent, 2 is good and 1 is the best (formerly used by the Vancouver Canucks for practice). 8 Rinks has two hockey leagues that run throughout the year: Adult Safe Hockey League (ASHL) and Ice604 (the former is arguably the better of the two). Food at the Thirsty Penguin (located on the second floor) is decent - gives you a great view of all the rinks. Be sure to check their website for public skating times, rink bookings and various lessons. read more

Dear 8 Rinks, I am writing to tell you what amazing employees in Dani and Wendy you have! This pass weekend I'm been taking care of my guests who feel in love with Hockey and wanted to play last minute notice on this past Sunday Father's Day weekend. I called your Ice Rink and spoke to Dani . She quickly got me pricing and gave me a clear picture of what she could make happen . The most important key was getting 2 instructors on short notice as the father and kids. The next day the guest said yes he wanted to go. I called Dani was not there but Wendy was. I was fully expected that even on the initial call that the ladies would say sorry it's the weekend or no sales manager around to book this. That was the typical answer I was getting from other vendors. Both ladies blew me away with their efficiency! These ladies went above and beyond to make this happen. Trust me all month I've dealt with all sorts of vendors and these ladies are top notch in my books. Please thank Dani and Wendi and all the staff at 8 Rinks! Guest had a blast! Skating. What could possibly go wrong here? Burnaby 8 Rinks has $2 admission days. Not bad if you also have your own skates. I'm looking forward to it being open more than just Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (I hope that happens). read more

Good place, half decent food, beer, hockey. what more would you ask for? Fun to go and cheer and jeer at the games, always a good night. Better to go with a few people. Usually referred to as "Burnaby 8-rinks," this is home to the BC Figure Skating Section Centre of Excellence and the Vancouver Canucks. It may be down to 7 rinks (one is now indoor soccer) but it sure beats the pants off any other multi-rink complex I've been to. The Skate Canada rink is the warmest. It has a long mural along one wall and blue (somewhat torn up) fabric covering the boards. Keep an eye on your belongings at all times - lots of bags get stolen here. read more

Thirsty penguin is not good, I ordered food then ate it, next day i got really sick. The food made me so sick that I could barely move that day. service from majority of the staff is decent except for one manager named Ian. The manager didn't show a positive service and I felt he doesn't feel fully committed to help. Besides the Restaurant everything else is good. read more

My son was a late starter in hockey and we put him in back to back camps. The instructors treated him well even though he couldn't skate. By the end of it he could skate, stop and had felt good about his accomplishments. Son just completed his second year and is now competitively scoring goals and has done four camps with his outfit over two seasons. Great staff, great environment. They only lost a star cuz we played our regular season games here and when I score keep the box is freezing cold! read more
