I have been taking pottery classes at trout lake for the last 3.5 years, I love the instructors and have taken Suzanne's and Laura's classes. They are hard to get into (you need quick fingers) since they are very reasonably priced. Free parking lot, but heard that's changing to paid parking this summer :( the front desk is always helpful, they have a cafe in the back for a drink or a quick snack. Twice a year (May and Nov), they have a pottery sale from their members and everything is so reasonably priced! read more

Gym review: it sucks. Good job Vancouver to have probably over million dollar worth of space and budgeting for community center and ice rink, yet you created the worst possible gym space. It makes no sense. There are so many reasons why community centre gyms sucks, besides the reason the steam room doesn't work. I have gym'd all over the world not only in the United States and third world countries like Thailand, Laos, Cambodia. This Trout Lake community centre gym is WAYY too small, it's just one upstairs space. There's a free weight area, 2 smith machines, 4 workout machines, 5 treatmills, 3 elipicticals, 2 rowers. There's an outdoor space where people can do workouts in the fresh air, but have the year you can't use it because rain gets onto it. And of course in Vancouver it rains half a year. There is no vibe here. As you can see in my video, it's dead quiet. You can literally hear ghosts here before hearing people workout. There's no music playing, even elevator music would be better than just silence. Everyone here is on their phone and not putting any energy into working out. I personally try to workout without my phone so I can actually put energy and focus into working out rather than wasting time choosing the next on your playlist. You can pay $7 for a drop in workout, which actually isn't a terrible price. So it's quite affordable, but actually the 50-60/month is totally not worth it when you can go to a different gym like fitness world for half the price. Yea these community centre gyms are incredibly disappointing. Vancouver gets all these tax dollars and this is what they give us back in return. Saddd read more

Trout Lake Community Centre - Recreation Centers Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Can't say I've been here often enough to have a fair pov abt the cc as a whole. Just visited the workout gym. Pros: - locker rentals are free in the change room (key system) - lofty ceilings and massive windows looking into trout lake park (east-facing) - huge outdoor balcony space accessible fr the gym Notes: - parking can be kind of a pain during peak hours, try the free street parking (see COV sign restrictions) - stairs up to the gym and the passages between machines are a bit narrow- watch out for human traffic - there's no formal waiting system (ex. sign-up board) for the cardio machines- resort to head nods and standing in line while not blocking passing traffic - not as many cardio machines as my usual gym (Mt. Pleasant) read more

I enjoy their fitness gym very much. Entrance system is very systematic: scanning your one card and wait the door unlocked. You don't need to wait at counter to get wristband like the other community centre gym. The locker in the gym has been installed the lock already. You don't need to bring your padlock. Woman's locker room and bathroom is quite small but new and tidy. I'm satisfied with that. read more

probably the best gym at any Vancouver community center. The facility is clean, with a variety of equipment. Prime location

Toddler's open gym is a great place to let your toddler burn some energy. The gym is littered with toys, sports equipment, play structures and play vehicles. There's lots of things for your kid to see and do. Best of all, there are usually 1-2 dozen other kids under the age of 5 for your kid to interact with. There is at least one paid staff to oversee the activities, although they are not baby sitters so don't expect them to look after your child exclusively. But, they keep an eye on things, as do the other parents. This allows you to talk to other parents, or check a Facebook update. read more

Beware of the Caucasian man with the ponytail - he is a creep and unprofessional. Very rude with visitors and his manner is so off putting that I'm so discouraged from visiting there again. Fitness centre is OK but not that much equipment and it can get quite cramped and stuffy. read more

Trout lake is a wonderful community centre, it's very lively and their gym has almost everything you need. Their gym is well lit, it's not too cramped, they have a room to do cycling, you can go outside with mats during warm days to do your excercises, and they have two stretching machines. My go to place for the gym. They also have programs and currently I am in their photography class which is fun! read more

Marijuana smoking in already filthy, smelly men bathroom, no attention paid. very small weight area that is dangerous and horribly set up. some members have bad habit of using 8 ft bars in the middle of tight room sending the rest of the members to the sides, some dangerously on other's space, all because one doesn't use common sense & STAFF says nothing, useless, uncertified in the area of safety obviously or they would prevent mal use. Find women staff rude & male staff lazy & rude. One heavy set native guy is inept in fitness, super rude, doesn't even wear the uniform. Do not recommend this gym $58 monthly fee. the change rooms are the size of my closet, the washrooms/toilets/sink always filthy. Dirty laundry left hanging for weeks and odour is horrible, finally removed by fed up members that gave up waiting for janitors to do cleaning. Took pictures of FILTHIEST DUSTIEST floors that are never vacuumed, instead they use silly fleecy dusters that only spread dust more dust is gross mix of filth, dead skin, black bunnies, hair & who knows what else (disgusting). Will be posting in browsers that accept pictures in the review as well the city.. read more

Really? The FIRST to review? People, go get your skate on at this fabulous facility.. Totally revamped, caring staff, big rink, and nice NEW skates. I'm pretty sure the one's I got had NEVER been used before. You can also get in on a game of ice hockey at the far end of the rink. It's a pretty dope feature and most definitely very Canadian of them. read more

This is my favourite spot to go to lurk on jacked asian dudes. I don't know why so many hot jacked asian dudes go to this gym, but thank you trout lake fitness centre. I spend at least 40% more time on my workout, because of all the hot jacked asian dudes here. 5 out of 5 stars. 10/10 would lurk here. read more

I always love it when a community centre is upgraded- it's been totally revamped and upgraded. There's an ice rink, a gymnasium, lots of classes, and my favourite: the fitness centre. In the fitness centre are two fancy cable stations that are super versatile, and a separate room full of bikes for spinning, one big TV so you don't miss the game. Oh, and there's a steam room, though it hasn't been in operation any of the times I've been there. Probably just working out the kinks as they've just opened. It's a bit small so it does get crowded, and the change rooms are REALLY small with only 10 lockers, but they have more lockers in another area about 50 metres away and down a flight of stairs. Trout Lake's best feature, IMO, is the lake itself. Nothing better than to get your blood pumping with a few laps around the lake before heading inside for weight training. Hillcrest is the place to swim, but Trout Lake is where to go to run. read more

Everything is brand new - the community center just re-opened January 16th! The fitness center isn't all that big, and it does get quite busy. The machines are high tech - touch screen treadmills and a chin up machine that has a tv to explain things to you. The weight area though is always super packed when ever I go, and I go different times during the day. They offer a nice range of classes - like belly dancing to spin classes. The Spin classes are awesome! You can buy a pack of 10 spin admissions for $50. $5 a spin class?!?!? bargain right there. The instructors are awesome, i've had 4 different instructors so far and all good. If this center is in your area, definitely give it a try! If it wasn't for the spin classes though, I'd only be giving it 3 stars. read more

I came here on Sunday to skate with friends. I didn't even know this place was here, but it is beautiful! My skating skills on the other hand are not! This place makes me want to learn how to skate well again, I think around 8 bucks got me on the rink with a pair of fairly new skates and the staff are really nice about switching skates out if you need to get a different style or size- which was me! What a great workout! There's a section for kids to skate and hold on to those skate walkers- which I really really wanted to use, but my friends wouldn't let me! After a few tips and a lot of hand holding I was skating on the rink by myself. My friends were so proud; I felt like I was five- it was awesome! read more

Fitness centre: Nice place grossly undersized for the population it's intended to serve, you will likely spend more time waiting on equipment than working out. Given the demand, attendants could be much more attentive and attempt to regulate those using equipment for more than the allotted 30 mins or reserving equipment while they go outside to take calls etc. The worst part is you use one of your prepaid visits just to get inside and find out you will have to wait for more than an hour... :(. read more

I came here for adult skate on a weeknight one rainy Vancouver night. I had come previously to this rink to take power skating classes when the rest of the community centre was still under construction in various parts. It's nice to see it fully constructed and being used. I walked in to the rink area into a swarm of toddlers who had just finished their public skate session. So cute. Anyway, I scanned the room to see where I could pay and get a skate rental for a friend of mine. I walked over to the counter thinking they handle rentals and admission there. I was half right. It turns out, admission is taken care of at the main desk of the community centre. "Just follow the red line on the floor and zigzag your way to the main desk, pay, then come back". Ok what? I'm already at the rink, skates in hand, ready to pay and ready to go. You don't have a float box to take my money so I can just skate? Need a sharpen? Yup. Walk. Main Desk. Come back. The skating itself is great. The rink is newly built and was unusually busy that night (so I'm told). They zamboni the ice half way through so you get to take a bit of a breather. The crowd is a real mix bag of young and old. If you're lucky, you may even be able to spot a speed skater in the mix. Overall a solid time. Just make sure you enter the community centre through the MAIN doors rather than go right to the rink. read more

The unisex shared steam room is working and you access it from the fitness centre, which can feel a bit too public since everyone exercising can see you entering the steam room. read more

Extremely displeased with Dennis, staff at Troutlake community centre: -Failed to safely release metal sports net and poles, over 7 feet tall, dropping on top of customers -Failed to explain after confronted -Failed to set up sports netting for scheduled gym time, requiring customers to do his job -Failed to check in customers when line up occurred, chatting with personal friends -Failed, after politely requested, to turn on all gym lights and did not provide explanation read more

Great community centre! Try the Zumba class!

Great gym for a community centre. New equipment and great view of the park. Only downside are they have rubber weights that go up to 85lbs. i prefer iron weights. Also gets overly crowded during peak hours. read more

A quite stylish building which does not spoil the feel of the lovely Trout Lake park surroundings. It's clean and spacious but they only gave the cafe prep area a tiny space so all the food is served on disposable utensils. The gym isn't bad but the steam room smelled like hot foot sweat. Apparently it is only serviced at specific times of the day. Wish they had put in an ozone swimming pool! read more

I have availed myself of the services here since I have been traveling. I am traveling in an RV and was referred here for the use of free showers and drinking water. What is great is the cleanliness of the showers. Sometimes unusual when traveling. Fantastic place and great community gathering place. Lots of activities available for the community. Lots of space for indoor and outdoor fun. read more

I haven't been here in over 10 years and everything is NEW! So new, they are still under construction and parking is available on the street only. I drove by a few times over the last few years when they were doing the Olympic renovations and saw that they were now open to the public. Dropped-in for a bit of stick n' puck yesterday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. Fond memories of my first peewee hockey experiences came rushing back but the rink really needed an update. I walked in the back entrance and WOW! "New rink smell"! The ice was excellent albeit a few low spots in the corners. The design is very similar to the rest of the olympic legacy rinks with nice high ceilings, natural wood beams and natural sunlight - it almost feels like you're outdoors. The only thing they can improve on is providing pucks like a few of the other community centres - Brittania & West End. It just saves you from losing your own puck(s) or chasing around a single puck. This place is awesome and the rest of the community centre isn't even built!! Also, if you have a Vancouver Parks Board membership, you can use it for public skating and hockey drop-in programs. read more

Beautiful, recently upgraded facility. It's right in the park, so going to the playground or the water after a class is easy. It has a very good parking lot by Vancouver standards and is an easy walk from the skytrain. read more

Convenient parking lot and large fitness centre. Equipment lined up and sectioned with cardio, free weights and weight machines. Spacious and overlooks Trout Lake when you are on the cardio machines. Great view. It gets busy in the evenings with students/ younger adults and in the morning it is a mixture of seniors and adults. The staff are friendly when you need help and the lockers are free to use not like Kensington where you have to put in a quarter. Some of the lockers in the washrooms need an airing out as they sure do smell of BO. read more

The concrete surface for roller hockey is quite smooth, no need for sticky wheels, quite soft...just from a goalie's perspective lol

Nice, modern community centre with lots going on. The fitness centre is nice for a community centre. But it's way too small for the demand. The few times I've been in there, it's been really crowded (and that wasn't even during peak times). The treadmills are hard to get and there's a sign up board (which I didn't know the first time and it seemed to cause chaos for some busybody/know-it-all types who made sure to make it very clear that I was creating such unbelievable chaos). The change rooms are tiny too, so if you want to have a shower you may have to wait. There are free lockers, which is great - but the kind you can't put a padlock on because they have their own lock system where there is supposed to be a key that you use and then return. But most of the keys are missing, so of about a dozen lockers, only a few are useable. But other than the general crowdedness, it's a pretty good gym with decent equipment and nice views of the park from the cardio machines. read more
