The bench area also has TVs , washrooms , change rooms , vending machines and a kids busy board type wall fixtures. Near the front is a concession stand with your standard assortment of hot / cold drinks , popcorn and baked foods. There is another room for getting your skate rentals. They had the cutest inflatables set up for the holiday season! There is ample amount of diagonal parking just in front of the rink and a larger lot further in ( which I think is for school parking during the weekdays but we were here on the weekend) I always forget about public skate days but would be a good weekend outing.

You're not pressured to purchase any food or drinks so I like that flexibility. There's a couple of massage chairs in case you wanted to relax and most importantly, it is WARM upstairs. Yay! If you do want to purchase food, I usually order the nachos. The portions are huge and I find they are the tastiest items on the menu. Skates are now $5 CAD and you can even rent spikes to walk around the rink for $2 CAD. If you have your own skates, you skate for free. What a need little venue. Smaller rink than a normal hockey rink but still just as fun! During the holidays it got a bit crowded. Everyone wanted to embrace the holiday spirit and there was a live band playing that night so traffic in and around the area was buzzing. I'll let the pictures and videos do the talking. The staff was courteous and down to earth and they even had lockers for your personal belongings. The plus side is there is a small booth that sells hot chocolate, coffee and other drinks to warm you up. Overall a fun time was had. I'd do it all over again!

Parking and traffic are awful everywhere along Lonsdale Ave., so you must get creative. It would be helpful to have more handicapped parking spots, but we will have to figure that out.

Most of the time, they are set up for lanes, but at public swim times, the waterslide and diving boards are opened up. There is also a nice big hot tub to relax in - although I've always been horrified by the many "No shaving" signs that dot the area. No running, no horseplay, but shaving? Who exactly is shaving in the hot tub? Some things are best left a mystery. I also like the authentic wooden sauna here, although it is kind of small. The best time to go is during one of the dollar swim or dollar skate sessions, although as you might expect, these are the busy times. But not too too busy, and probably the best little fitness deal in the city. (Harry Jerome is just near the top of the Upper Levels highway in North Van, so rather close, actually, for you brave bridge crossers.)

As soon as you walk in, there's the check-in office on right, skate/equipment shop on left, some nice seating around the staircase, decorated with rocks to those who care about decor, and a concession stand in the back. Like I said, nice and compact. But I'm not a fan of their dressing rooms & showers, outdated as well as if you're 6 feet, make sure you don't hit your head on the sprinkler. Plus, the water doesn't stay on long, so it's a lot of holding the friggin button. Lastly, the parking lots are a bit shady to me. Not well-lit and secluded being by the highway & in the industrial area. Not saying it's rowdy but I sure wouldn't want my lady to walk alone past 8pm. But ice-wise, it's nice here, 4 rinks. Well-lit and good scoreboards.

This review is specifically for the pool(s). The facilities are really good, although the changing…read moreroom/showers are fairly primitive. The salt water pools are both nice--a good sized lap pool and a warmer leisure for water walking and kid fun, as well as a river for floating and relaxing. There is also a giant water slide. The downside is the management of the pools, or lack thereof. Don't expect rules to be enforced, especially in summer, when the lifeguards are almost exclusively teenagers. Kids play in the lap lanes, which disappear with little regard to the schedule. I saw a child dive into the shallow end of the kids' pool and not one of the three lifeguards said anything or perhaps even noticed. Usually there's only one swim lane during aquafit, even if the class is sparsely attended. If you want equipment--water weights, for instance--you often have to hunt down someone to get them for you from a back room. Most gyms I've been to have that equipment readily available. During aquafit classes, the music is so loud that the people in the water often can't hear the instructor, and the instructors are already miked. The volume is headache-inducing at times. Additionally, the music itself is generally very bad. In the morning, it's the same hits of the 70s on a loop ("American Pie" every morning gets old quickly) and in the evenings it's even worse. Little effort seems to go into matching what people in the aquafit classes might enjoy--it's just typical aerobics music, with no imagination or common sense put into the song choice, given that the majority of the people in the classes are 65-plus. (Pre-1960 music actually had a beat--people jitterbugged to it!) I mention music because it's loud, there's no escaping it, and having contemporary country (for example) blaring in your ear isn't always what you want when you're trying to unwind after a long day.
