They would not fill my tank on the fixed price while we were under contract. The office guy literally could barely speak English so resolving the issue went no where!. The technicians at Kerivan-Lane are competent and arrive during the time window promised. They performed the work as expected. That said, I found that scheduling an appointment is a challenge. Unless it is an emergency (no heat), it was difficult to get an appointment within a week, and in one case they were booking 3 weeks out for a annual HVAC cleaning. When I tried to cancel an appt, there was no way to leave a non-emergency voicemail during non-working hours. I also found that their service is expensive. The hourly rate is $125/hr and they round up to the next hour. In summary, I am pleased with the service that I received, but I plan to shop around for better pricing and more convenient appointments read more

I have been a customer for over 10 years. In October, I had decided to get my oil services somewhere else and notified them of this change. I then got a call from a sales manager, John Eburn. He wanted to keep my business and offered me a good price for oil ($1.99/gallon) and a free service contract. I told him I would think about and called back in a few days agreeing to the terms. The next day, Mr. Eburn emailed me 2 types of service contracts and asked me to let him know which one I want so he could add it to my account. I emailed back and chose the one I wanted. The contract stated that it is only for customers on automatic delivery and included 24 hour emergency service. A few months later I went on vacation during the coldest week in 100 years. When I returned home, I had no heat and my house was 30 degrees. Pipes were frozen and one of my faucets broke. I soon realized that I was out of oil. I checked my records and saw that they had never delivered oil at all after I spoke with Mr. Eburn. I called the emergency service line but no one answered. I tried several times with no success. Finally the next morning I called again and got someone. One of their technicians came out and put in 10 gallons of fuel and got the system started. I then got a call from Mike McDonald, Service Manager. He told me that I'm not a customer anymore. I was surprised and referenced my conversation with Mr. Eburn and the email I had received. He asked me to send it which I did. He called me back and told me that he spoke with Mr. Eburn and informed me that I am no longer a customer and to get my oil somewhere else. This was on New Year's Eve during one of the coldest days in 100 years. Later that day, my furnace stopped working again and I was stuck with no oil, a broken furnace and no one to turn to because of the holiday. read more

I booked a service for our gas boiler serval weeks ago, and took a 1/2 day off work to wait for them. The appointment was for between 8am and noon today. At 11.25am the office called to say that he was running late. He arrived at 1.15pm. He took one look at our boiler and said "I specialize in oil, not gas boilers". Then he called the office to see if someone could talk him through how to service our gas boiler. It turns out they do not even service our make of boiler, but hadn't asked our make of boiler when I booked the appointment. Needless to say I will never call them again. read more

I've been going to Kerivan Lane gas station almost every day for the past 7 years for my business. They offer a great Depot store with cold drinks and coffee snacks ect.. They have friendly, and helpful employees who operate the station. They offer the cheapest diesel, off road diesel and gasoline in Needham. As well as offer a business house account,which is very rare these days. Chris the owner is always very delightful to see in the morning, always greets me or my crew with a "hello" or a "Good Morning". They use high pressure tactics, insist upon doing work that we did not want done once we discovered other issues, and Chris Lane is one of the nastiest, arrogant and self defeating business owners we have ever experienced. We tried several times to de-escalate and walk away from this guy - but he kept hammering. Full on war with this company - life is too short to do business with people like this and we discovered that they have a well established reputation for this kind of behavior with other customers in the area. Go somewhere else. Had a toxic smell in the basement for years particularly during the winter. They said it was nothing. Went with another company and had the tank and furnace replaced. The other company said it looked like it neither was properly cleaned- tank oil was sludgy. There is no odor now, bills are lower, and the kids can play safely in the basement. I won't recommend this contractor company if you expect accountable service if anything happens. The trouble I have experienced with this company has driven me to the extend to create a new Yelp account, just to post a bad review to share my experience. We have our boiler replaced with Kerivian-Lane after reading reasonable reviews from Angie's List. We got the new boiler installed in the end of October at cost of 11k. With the installation contract, we got one year warranty of all cost and labor. Everything was fine till this March. The boiler started to have problem. It starts to switch on and off standby mode constantly and making click click sound for a period of a couple of minutes then goes back to normal. Even after it stops the constant switching mode, an exclamation mark shows on the left of the display panel. It may happen a couple of times a day. But there is no clear indication of how it happens and how to trigger it. Then we called Kerivan-Lane, after a technician came on March 20th, we were told it's electric wiring problem and it's fixed. It's none of their business. They blame on the new Nest thermostat which we installed in January. The problem only started in March. Even we are under warranty, they billed us for another 180$. After the technician visit, problem still persists and we still see the exclamation mark on the boiler panel. So I called back and they scheduled another visit on April 8th from 8-10. Then this morning, I was waiting at home and no one showed up at 8:30. I called the service line, and was told they cancelled the visit, coz it's not their problem. Then we checked our phones. We got a missed call but haven't received any voice mail. We asked what if we change back to the original thermostat, if the problem persists, would they fix it? They said no, it's the Nest which polluted the machine. They won't fix it. This is the most ridiculous and awful experience I had with any contractor. I am going to change back to the original thermostat, if the problem persists. I am not sure what to do. This is the kind of service you get from Kerian-Lane after paying 11k with a year warranty. read more

This company is to be avoided at all costs. After selling us oil for several years and supposedly servicing our unit, Kerivan Lane negligently spilled oil all over our basement. Did they take responsibility? No! Jack and Chris Lane actually HID from our insurance company when they tried to get the information needed to get the cleanup started. This company gives all oil companies a bad name. One wonders whether they should face criminal action for the way that they act toward their customers. We have been Kerivan-Lane customers since we bought our house more than 30 years ago. They have been an excellent company for us that entire time. Their plumbing service is excellent, but more importantly they kept our 55 year old boiler running for many years. Three years ago we replaced the boiler and oil tank. They did such a nice job plumbing associated with the new boiler that I enjoy looking at because they not only assured it worked right, but made it aesthetically pleasing. We have always had excellent service. If I called to ask a question about a bill the office staff was very friendly. Recently our hot water heater broke. Chris came out and was very friendly and helpful. They answered all the questions we had and got us what we wanted. The men that worked at our house for a few days were very respectful. Little did I know that less than a week later, I would be faced with an emergency, after hours of course! SIgned up with Kerivan Lane for their low oil prices...big mistake. Our burner started leaking oil, KL prompt;y came only to tell us that our 11 year old burner was "dead". They quickly went back to their office and emailed us a quote for $7K to replace. We called another company willing to do it for $5K. The new company came out and informed us our burner needed to be cleaned. Had a certified oil technician come to the house the next day and for $450 he cleaned our system and it is now working perfectly. After several phone calls, emails and finally a letter we received a call from the owner. Now he claims he told us cleaning was an option. They are unethical and outright liars. Very disappointed with Kervin lane. I am a trustee in a condominium we approved an easement for owners to install a mini split system with very specific installation requirements, while the association was putting the specifications together we worked very closely with kervin lane even to them adding opinion and advice. Once the easement was legally documented kervin lane did most of the installs although it was made clear that they did not have an exclusive but by being the first company to do installs and being involved from the ground floor owners contacted them and ultimately their company got the job so far 7 units have been installed by them with more to come. The last unit to be installed was not done by the specifications the system looks terrible. Kervin lane has been contacted by our management company and by the owner to come back and make the necessary adjustments owner has sent correspondence to the general manager three times,as of today there has been no response.The unfortunate part of this story is the business practices kervinlane has shown and worse yet the owner might have to have the unit taken down. Going forward when those that request an easement to install a multi split unit they will be informed of this unit owners fiasco. read more

My attempt to do a job w/ Kerivan Lane started out well enough. They were responsive to my initial phone call and had a nice, professional style. But it went downhill from there to such a low point that my advice is stay away from this company! Here's the gist: my boiler broke suddenly in late fall. One of their guys came out quickly to take a look. He was nice enough but ultimately made some major mistakes. First, it turns out he was a salesman rather than a technician (I only found this out later in the process). He "assumed" that I wanted an oil heating system rather than gas and never offered the option to switch to gas (gas is cheaper and much better for the environment). (When I eventually asked one of their real technicians why he didn't offer gas as an option, the guy said, 'We're an oil company so that's what we focus on'-- which I hear as 'let's not think about the environment or the customer; let's try to keep this company making money.'). The second red flag was the estimate, which included a vague and open-ended statement about hourly costs for replacing some pipe. The pipe that needed replacement could readily be measured, but somehow this company was unable to come up w/ a final figure on that cost. Other companies had no problem providing a solid figure for that same pipe issue. So if you read a Kerivan-Lane estimate, my advice is: watch for this sort of open-ended loophole and make sure you only accept a final, real, maximum quote. Basically they underbid on the job and then this is where they'd make their $ back (that's my read on it). The third red flag was that they were going to install a boiler that was bigger than we needed (here again based on what i learned later from other companies); a bigger boiler = more money for Kerivan-Lane; or a more benign interpretation is that the salesman just didn't have the technical knowledge to correctly identify the right size of the boiler. Finally, and here's the ultimate in "customer disservice"-- given that we had no heat and i had finally sorted out enough knowledge of the situation to finalize a plan with them, i told them i was ready to move forward. I was assured that the job could start in 2 days. Well, 2 days later, they mysteriously and suddenly said they would not honor the quote nor the promise to install the new heating system. I was on my own and now-- in the midst of cold weather-- had to find a new installer. In the end, that was a great outcome as i found a vastly better company (JM Mechanical, who was old-school honorable, fair, and great, with none of these problems). So bottom line: if you're someone who is willing to close your eyes, not ask questions, and just write a blank check, definitely Kerivan Lane is for you! If not, look elsewhere. read more

What a huge disappointment. I had been with Hughes/Devaney oil for over 5 years and I have now switched back. From the very beginning they were lots of problems. My oil tank ran out and when they came to fill it, they can with a very small amount of oil so of course we ran out again. They they would call us asking us to tell them how much oil we had left. Isin't that what they are supposed to know? When we had issues - it took them a long time to get out to us. On top of that, they want their money immediately! I assumed it was about 30 days - that is what I am used to - and they are calling and harrassing me after 10 days and won't deliver more oil. I then eventually went on a budget plan and again because I was late with a payment they took me off the budget plan (which is fine) but they did not even tell me. I have cancelled them and have gone back to Devaney/Hughes. Will not leave them again. Not the nicest of people At Kevivan either. read more

Kerivan-lane installed an indirect water-heater to replace my old oil-fired water heater Nov. 2015. After installation, it starts having issues. My boiler sometime (intermittent) would trip when water heater calls for hot water. It does't happen that frequently so I didn;t call them until 10 months later. It was then found out by another tech that the wiring of the newly installed relay box was not done properly. The relay box lacks connection to the boiler TT so that although the water heater could work most of the time, but from time to time the boiler would detect that lacking TT connection as a malfunction and trips. I have called Kerivan Lane and asked them to fix this issue but the owner has very rudely rejected to take any responsibility even it is under warranty and they are the ones installed the water heater improperly to begin with. Kerivan lane is a very irresponsible and totally unprofessional company that you should avoid with all means. I am taking them to the small claims court in MA. read more
