Originally, there was an investor who wanted to buy the house. I was hesitant because I preferred to have someone actually live in the house. Sharmane handled that as a pro, and that is when I realized even more how amazing she was. She came up with some great requirements, and they back out. However, I got one of the highest offers in my neighborhood, two months rent-free, AND they will live in the home. It was all due to Sharmane. Honestly, I wish she could be my realtor everywhere. But, if she ever moves to Florida, Sharmane knows that I will be the first one asking for her to be my realtor. Jesus Christ, I can certainly understand that some people are desperate for business, but as a general courtesy, it is not a good idea to call your prospective seller at 4 am! I don't sleep much and I really value my sleep. As a matter of fact I am so sleep deprived that I fell asleep behind the wheel this last Friday the 13th of April and I totaled my car. That is why I am a bit protective of my sleep lately. So this guys calls my phone at 4 am, and when I didn't pick up he calls my wife's phone. Needless to say I wasn't the happiest camper. But I know that most people on the East Coast don't realize that (808) is a Hawaii area code, and that Hawaii is 6 hours behind the East Coast. So I politely text the guy and explain to him this phenomenon. I honestly didn't expect much, just a simple "Oh, I am sorry" would make me happy. But the guy texts me back with "I have no idea what you are talking about. Please don't text me again." Holly cow! I definitely didn't expect that kind of answer. But this kind of answer tells a lot about the business owner. Here are my three assumptions. 1. The guy did call me at 4 am and doesn't have the integrity to take the responsibility for the call and common sense to apologize. Would I chose someone without integrity and common sense as my real estate agent? Not a million years. 2. Someone from his office made the call, and he really had no idea what I was talking about. In that case he has absolutely no control over the people in his office, and lacks the courage to take responsibility for the actions of his employees. Would I chose someone who has no idea what is going on in his own agency as my real estate agent? Not in a thousand years. 3. The guy is a jerk and lacks basic customer service skills. Would I chose someone who is a jerk and lacks basic customer skills as my real estate agent? Not in a hundred years. Overall, I definitely don't recommend De Raedt Team to take care of any of your real estate needs based how they handled this situation. You can tell a lot about the business based on the fact how does the business owner treat his potential customers.

This is LONG overdue…read more 20 years ago, I was TDY to Saudi Arabia and, on the advice of a colleague, I reached out to Janet to help me purchase a condo upon my return to CONUS. Somehow, she was able to help find me a place that met my needs for location, price range even while purchasing sight unseen. Even better, she seamlessly dealt with international time zone issues in getting money moved and signing documents in a timely fashion, and she was able to close the deal for me in short order. More to my surprise she went to my new home and personally cleaned the place so the movers and I could settle in with ease. 4 years later, when I wanted to make another move, she was there with me on site to help close the deal in, again, short order. While I'm grateful to Janet for her skills as a realtor, it's the person she is that really seals the deal for me. To this, day, I get invites to events she hosts, I get a birthday card every year, an anniversary card on the day of my last closing and a Christmas card. I couldn't have asked for a better realtor. The inspection service they used - Pro-Tec out of Poolesville, MD - was seriously cheap and inept. The home warranty company they included in case of appliance/plumbing/electrical problems - HMS National - was downright fraudulant, incompetent, and refused to cover serious problems they claim to cover in their policy manual. The contractor they use regularly for their own repairs on sales properties and recommended to me for a dishwasher installation made several major mistakes and was not open to criticism. Overall, they were both cheap and lazy in their choices of home improvement personnel, and that is not ok. My agent was understandably inexperienced with house purchases, but still, someone more experienced needs to be watching the road in these situations.

Sean did a great job as our agent as my wife and I sought to become first-time homeowners. We are both busy professionals and Sean was invaluable in both explaining the ins and outs of the process to us, and also doing much of the grunt work so that we did not have to. We started our search in late January 2014 with relatively wide parameters in terms of size, location, styles, finishes, etc., and finally closed on a house that we love in late June 2014 that probably would not have fit within our initial search parameters. In the meantime, we had put in three offers on other places, including one that went under contract before it fell through because the seller had been sued and could not clear title. Throughout the 5-month process, Sean was very patient as we saw more and more places and narrowed down what we wanted. He was always available to explains the ups and the downs. There was never any pressure or indication that things were taking too long or that we should increase our budget or offers on properties in which we were interested. Sean also was very perceptive in figuring out our likes and dislikes; he did a great job narrowing down the listings of potential properties based on how we reacted to similar properties we had seen. He always made himself available to show one or both of us properties, whether that would involve several hours on a weekend, or time after normal business hours (and he would always offer to pick us up at home or at the office, as we do not have a car). He was incredibly responsive, almost always responding to our calls or e-mails in minutes or less. Even when he was not with us, Sean was working to find us a place. For example, the property that went under contract but fell through was new construction, and we had noticed that it was nearing completion. Sean stopped by during the workday to talk to the workers, gather intelligence, and get inside to see the place to confirm that it met our needs. Because of that initiative, we were able to get in, see the property, and make an offer before it even went on the market. I do not think that is something that you will get with just any agent. All told, we would highly recommend Sean to anybody looking for a real estate agent. He is diligent, responsive, respectful, smart, personable, and his radio is always playing New Wave hits, if that's your thing (and it was for at least one of my wife and me).
