Ask the Community - Kensington Pies II

Do they have indoor seating, or are they take-out only like their original location?

There is some indoor seating. This location is bigger than the east Meadow location.

You might find a seafood spot that's just as good, but you'll be hard-pressed to find one better. My boy and I are there pretty much every Sunday during NFL season, and honestly, we sneak visits in during the week too -- sometimes just us, sometimes with the wives, sometimes grabbing food to bring back home. The vibe is always cool, welcoming, and family-oriented. Jerry, the owner, is cool as hell and treats people right. The whole staff really does. Danielle, Jordan, Jose -- all love. Now let's get to the food. The whiting? Amazing. The catfish? Amazing. The fried lobster? AMAZING. The shrimp? Always on point. The mac and cheese is easily a 4 to 4.5 out of 5. I'll never say somebody's mac is better than my mama's, but theirs is dangerously close. The collard greens are solid too. Me personally, I like my greens with a little more soul seasoning and spice -- a little cayenne kick built in instead of needing hot sauce afterward -- so for me they're about a 3.5 to 4 out of 5. But I can tell they season them in a way that appeals to everybody's palate and lets people adjust it themselves. The salmon soup? ELITE. They sell out of it constantly, so if you want it, get there early. The only thing I'd personally add would be some crushed chili flakes and corn niblets to take it completely over the top. As somebody who cooks and runs a catering business myself, I'm extremely critical about food, so when I say this place meets the bar and raises it, I mean that. Jose is usually back there cooking every time we go, so I joke that they got him chained to the kitchen -- but clearly he knows what he's doing. Jerry and the family taught him well. Now for honesty: The potato salad isn't really my thing. I'd probably give it a 2.5 out of 5 because, again, it feels made to appeal to all palates instead of heavily seasoned-food lovers like me. Same with the cabbage -- but I'm Jamaican, so unless cabbage is Jamaican-style, you're probably not selling me on it anyway . But the important part is this: the foods people ACTUALLY go to a soul food seafood restaurant for? They absolutely nail them. And now they opened a Brooklyn location too. Trust me -- make the trip. Once you go, you're going to keep going back.

If they ever start cutting them, I'll stop going -- but for now, they've got it right. I also tried the fried chicken, which had a great crunch and was cooked well. Both the fish and chicken could've used a bit more flavor for my personal taste, but nothing a little garlic and herb seasoning from home couldn't fix. My parents enjoyed the fish too, and they're pretty particular, so that says something. The staff was courteous and I really appreciated seeing that the cooks were wearing gloves -- always a good sign of care and cleanliness. I love supporting Black-owned businesses, especially when they're putting in this level of effort. Glad I found this place -- I'll definitely take that drive again to return since I no longer patronize UberEats/ Uber.

Amazing from start to finish. Started off with their…read morespecial, the garlic herbed bone marrow and bacon and the sweet potato gnocchi. The bone marrow was INCREDIBLE. I wish it wasn't just a special but a main stay because I'd definitely order that each and every visit. It was that good. I was apprehensive about the gnocchi since im not a big gnocchi fan in general but so many people have sung of it's praises so I decided to try it. Easily one of the best dishes I've had this year. The flavors were so perfectly balanced. It taste of the toasted sweet potato gnocchi was something I didn't expect but was pleasantly surprised. Kept it more simple for entrees because the starters were so rich and indulgent. We had the filet mignon and the steak sandwich. Both perfectly portioned and delicious. Ended with the stroopwafel cheesecake, it wasn't too sweet which was nice. The service was great, I love how the manger was so hands on and checking in with tables. There was an older couple nearby celebrating their anniversary and the manager came over and surprised them with a mini bottle of champagne and congratulated them. That really was so thoughtful! Definitely top tier care and service.

Big pot, loaded with flavor, and honestly enough to make you question ordering anything else. Seafood tastes fresh across the board, and the sauces actually matter here (not an afterthought). Bread basket is dangerous--crispy outside, and soft inside The vibe is classic Long Island "upscale but loud." Red booths, stained glass accents, packed room. Great energy if you're out with friends, less ideal if you're trying to have a conversation. It gets noisy--no way around that. Service was solid--attentive without hovering, which is what you want when you're juggling a pot of mussels and drinks. Only knock: it's pricey. But to be fair, you're paying for quality seafood and a pretty unique Belgian bistro experience (and a massive beer/cocktail program).

It was my first time ever having a chili dog, and it turned out to be a great choice. The chili dog was huge. I definitely had to cut it into smaller pieces (don't judge!), but it was incredibly delicious. The onion rings were perfectly crispy and flavorful, a great complement to the meal. I also had a root beer, which made the whole combo even better. The service and the young lady was very friendly and attentive. Our food came out quickly, and she made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The ambiance was relaxed and very casual. It felt clean, comfortable, and inviting, with a laid back vibe perfect for a quick bite or a casual meal. The P.S. Burgers made my first chili dog experience a memorable one. Great food, crispy onion rings, solid service, and a comfortable atmosphere. I'd would like to return!

This is exactly how a business can lose stars…read more Going in to dine on Friday 2/20/26 my plus one and I had a entirely different experience from the first visit, in which the female employee influenced our return and patronage. Dressed casually in this casual setting that was well lit. We came to take advantage of a deal that was advertised "combo BOGO 50% off" within the hours of the promotion, but we were taken advantage of! Asking the employee for the advertised combo he specifically and directly point at the sandwich menu which was significantly higher priced starting at $18. It looks like a steak sandwich, I asked if it was a burger, he stated that it comes like a burger. So we each ordered that and with onion rings. He stated that they come with French fries, we said we wanted to have onion rings for an extra charge. I'm starting to notice a language comprehension challenge in the exchange as he kept saying that the sandwich comes with fries, He later confirms our order minus fries and stated that there's $.75 extra. Sitting down viewing the aesthetics as stated previously, we started observing the menu closer and noticed that the menu says " burger combos" starting at $11. Questions does arise about the promo. Talking to the employee, asking why does the menu say combo and you pointed to the sandwich, his reply was that sandwiches are the only combos that they have. I replied but that sign says sandwiches and the other menu says burger combos and you pointed to the sandwiches, why would you point to the sandwich. I was looking for his guidance into the right direction. If looks could kill, he'd be serving a life sentence. I interpreted the look as he was caught in a trap with no way out because he said they only had one combo. So he admitted, after interrogation that we could have ordered the P. S Burger combo. His tactics to spend my money was misleading in every shape form or fashion. The sandwiches (not a burger even though it looked like a burger) had chunks of steak and was falling apart every time you bit into it, leaving chunks of meat in your mouth, that you must now negotiate in order not to choke. We could have walked away happy and satisfied spending $18 minus tax. Instead I spent $18 on one sandwich for a total of $28.5. ( 2 orders of onion rings and the BOGO) To add, they bring you the food, put a tip jar out, and expect you to tip on top of being taken for $10 extra. So the extra went into revenue, not the tip jar. I actually thought P.S Burger would add to our palate but it's just not going to work out. The employee's actions led us to spend more than intended, and that affected the overall experience. But still.... Inspire more, Yelp more!

My brother accidentally found this location, and he wouldn't stop talking about it. So we decided to pay it a visit. I was happy about his persistence. When we arrived the parking was blocked off. I guess the repaved the blacktop, so we parked on the outside. The bar is off to the side of the complex with no real banner saying the name of the business. But the inside told another story. This bar changed hands a few times, but the current owner, knows what he's doing. The main floor was modern and clean. The place seemed capable of hosting football games. On one negative. All the chairs had wooden bottoms. After sitting a bit, they make you uncomfortable. I wish the would get cushions on them. The first bartender, Charlie knew my brother. He was a great guy and loved talking sports. Charlie made the place seem very welcoming. After he was getting ready to leave, Julia was starting. She too was extremely friendly. It made me feel very welcomed. Julie and the cook in the back recommended we try the wings. I felt they were steering me in the right direction, so I ordered them. The wings definitely delivered. I only wish, they gave you more blue cheese. Lastly, the burger, was ordered. I asked for a custom burger, this is a better option, if you want to decide what kind of burger you want. The French fries and the burger were A plus! I definitely appreciated the recommendations I will be back. The food iis the main attraction. Football just started, so I will definitely stop in to watch the I games.
