Great little pavilion in our area. It hosts summer music series in the warm months and winter…read moreskating when things turn chilly. I learned recently that it's also a polling location for folks in the surrounding wards. I popped in to cast my vote in the election and it was my first time actually inside. Turns out it's essentially a warming house with a big ol' fire place in the middle as a place to get warm during skating season. There is plenty of free parking available. Games and events are always taking place. I look forward to returning when the snow falls!

True, winter means snow storms, bone chilling winds, shoveling, icy roads & lots of other things we'd all rather forget. But, winter also brings opportunities for a wide array of great outdoor activities, including a traditional favorite--ice skating. Longacre Skating Pavilion & skating rink are right next to Stormonth Elementary school at 7343 N Longacre Rd. The skating rink has one area for free skating & a 2'nd for ice hockey. Although, stray pucks tend to find their way into the free skating area. The ice surface can be pretty bumpy. Nobody around here owns a Zamboni! Skaters are invited to go inside the pavilion to warm up, the fireplace is awesome & always ablaze on weekends. The skating pavilion also hosts games & events. Free parking is available.

They called me a few weeks later to ask if I could switch from 12-4 to 6-9pm. I told them no since it was a child's birthday party. They confirmed 12-4 would still work. We arrived the day of the party and they did not have our reservation. I had to find my receipt to prove my reservation. They ran my credit card for the remaining balance and THEN informed me that it would be an additional $7 for every adult that wanted to enter. This was never told to me until right then and there. Paying for every adult to enter would have cost another $100 or so. This wasn't even for adults to skate- just to accompany their children into the party. Even if they didn't want to skate, it was still $7. We asked for a refund and it was refused. I had to put 1/2 down to reserve my party, but it was never reserved. So I'm not sure what that money was used for since it wasn't to hold a spot. Maybe with all the money they are making they should use some of it to out back into the business. Place looks and smells disgusting. Buyer beware. Read the website. Don't just go off the information you are told when booking the party over the phone.

Pepsi only products. I was reading another review about the floor being sketchy and I did notice the floor looks like it peeled and was repainted but you could not feel any irregularities as I specifically tried to. The floor is fine so you don't have to worry about it tripping you up because it will not. The kids had barrels of fun and I'm sure we will be back. We did a birthday party 12/15/2019 for my little one and all the kids had a blast. They say you burn up to 600 calories in an hour of vigorous skating. It was about 61 degrees inside but once your moving, you'll warm up. I notice skee ball in the corner, two thumbs up! Very good time. Even if your fat and in your 40's like me, get the skates on, it's very much worth it!! Thanks Traxside Skating for much fun!!

Upon approaching the door the area is clean and clear of any hazards. Once you walk into the building you are in an open bright colored room with information posted, and it appears your will need to be buzzed into the next set of doors. Upon entering into the rink area to the right in an area to purchase skates and/or skate accessories and next to that is the concessions. Just a couple of steps from the concessions is the washrooms. Then coming back there are tables and just past those is the right. Dj booth is in the front as well. Going straight through the door there are games and moving past those is the prize area and skate rental area. The beverages are over $3.00 and some change each, but they sell the pitcher for a little over $6.00. They offer pizza and snacks as well. We ordered the nachos and fries. The nachos which were good, but those fries, they were so good. This group rented the whole place to enjoy their birthday and is was very nice. Employees were both very kind and fast. They use great colors, bright. Makes it fun!

COVID has been a little tricky for hockey, but Canlan is killing it with their protocols…read more We've been at the arena for about five years and even through it's ownership change, they continue to surprise us with the level of attention and courtesy they provide. Coach Dennis is doing a great job of keeping our families up-to-date with options and we were super excited to see Coach John and Coach Vince back on the ice! If you're looking for coaches who remember your kids names and individualize their progress and assessment... this is the place. From a cost standpoint, this club is a little more expensive than some in neighboring towns, but the facilities and coaches are worth the added expense. For those concerned about COVID protocol, all the coaches wear masks on the ice and there is no player contact for the squirt and mite skill sessions. Right now, there's no in-house league, which is understandable, but sad. We hope that there will be progress toward that end in the future. I highly recommend this arena, especially for your youngsters just starting out.

The biggest complaint is the walls between rinks do not go all the way up to the ceiling so you can hear music and referee whistles from other rinks.

SK8 World - Games

SK8 World Is Awesome!…read more I had planned to spend my Friday night watching a few episodes of True Detective while enjoying the last of my stash of small batch Guatemalan coffee, but alas, it was not to be. I was pulling into the parking lot of the Applebees's in Munster, Indiana when my wife asked me if I wanted to check out a new skating rink in Portage, Indiana. I didn't! In an attempt to sweeten the pot, she told me that SK8 World's Facebook page was boasting that Tim "Spinnin" Shommer would be onsight to perform, as it was opening night. This accomplished nothing because I had no idea who Tim "Spinnin" Shommer was. Listen, it's not an indictment on Tim or his talent but instead, a glowing example of how out of touch I am with the rolling ring industry "D.J. Elite." So back at Applebee's in Munster, I'm trying to satisfy my hunger with a protein-rich, carb conscious, 8oz sirloin smothered in parmesan and decorated with a fistful of shrimp. It also came with a cup of garlic mash and more than generous serving of steamed broccoli. The garlic mash was on point (5 stars) but the broccoli would only act as to color my otherwise sepia-toned meal. My wife was across the table being silent, allowing my six-year-old daughter to do all the convincing. She knew what she was doing. In fact, they both know their respective roles, both independent and collective. My wife planted a seed in our daughter's brain when she initially presented the idea, and it was now in full bloom. They both had SK8 World in their sights and knew exactly what they needed to do to get there. My wife, with her "I guess we can just sit at home and rot, again" attitude and my daughter presenting the puppy dogs eyes she's obviously perfected. An hour later, I'm 20 miles east of Applebee's, east of my coffee, and east of season one of True Detective. I'm standing in a long line outside of SK8 World, waiting impatiently for this experience to both begin and end. I'll admit it, I was dug in. I was not gonna have fun if it killed me. While I saulked, an employee who exited the building inviting anyone in possession of their own shoes (He's talking about skates) to cut to the front of the line, so they could pay their admission to roll. He did this every five minutes or so. We had only had our tennis shoes so we weren't going anywhere fast. Us line waiters were also being told that SK8 World had run out of skates and that we could pay to get in but might not have the opportunity to skate. We would have to wait until someone who had rented skates in ou desired size had their fill for the night if we wanted to have a go. Luckily, we were able to procure a tiny pair for our daughter and one for the wife, as soon as we got inside. They were happy, which made me happy. I was also happy, happy to be left alone to hold their coats and shoes and have absolutely zero fun. But eventually, something changed, After watching my wife and daughter go around a time or two, I couldn't deny that I longed for my chance. I couldn't tell my wife I wanted to skate, I had my pride. I had committed to my anger and I didn't want to let it go. Then I devised the perfect plan. It was totally obvious that my wife was not a graceful skater and that she was having difficulty maneuvering around the floor with our daughter. So after they struggled for a couple of laps I proposed to my wife that she take a break and that I escort my daughter around the rink a few times. She didn't agree or brag that "she told me so," she just grabbed me some skates. Truth be told she just wanted to get me into some skates so she and I could skate together. She's smarter than me, what can I say. The minute my skates hit the floor I was transported back to 1987. The music, the lights, and ambiance. Tim Shommer was on his game. It was like he had been cryogenically frozen in time, only to have been thawed out for this event. Every song choice perfect, ever light transition, precision. I did shuffle around the rink a few times with my little girl, but that's not where the magic happened. It was when I flew solo. I raced, I spun, I twisted, and I twirled. I skated backward like most people dream of skating forward. I soared like an eagle. My wife also got her couples skate. Everybody won. The price was right, the bathrooms were clean, and it had a great family-friendly atmosphere. I just want to know which night is 80's punk rock night. I, well I mean WE, will definitely be back. I watched True Detective while I wrote this review
