The dim lighting, narrow long room, and close seating create an intimate atmosphere. Live jazz musicians are hosted every night of the week, often with multiple sets, featuring a mix of local musicians, rotating house bands, and visiting musicians. Because of the tight space, you are always close to the stage. Tonight's headliner was the Concept Orchestra. Cover tonight was $7. Cocktails range $14-16. The club was dimly lit with lots of stickers, graffiti, neon signage, paintings and interesting artifacts. While it has been a long time since I have been to the Continental club, it still felt truly Austin and very unpretentious. In the Continental Club you are literally I feet away from the live music. A dog was sleeping on stage, which made the place feel homey. The club is small and intimate, exuding a super personal persona. In addition, the sound quality is excellent for such a small venue. Tonight we listened to Hot Club Cowtown...they sounded folksy and a bit country western yet enjoyable to listen to. Folks were boot scooting, so maybe more country western. Mike the doorman was super personable and helpful. He happily provided the WIFI password and was super engaging. In addition, it is important to note the cover was free until 9 pm. The ambiance appears to be upscale and feels like a speakeasy. At the back of Parker Jazz club is a very colorful bar, which is something you might likely see in New Orleans, LA. The place is charming, cozy and welcoming. In addition, it is important to note there is a parking garage across the street and ample street parking. Performances range from jazz and swing to Latin influenced sets and special themed nights, featuring both local and touring musicians. It is great to find a venue like Parker Jazz Club that offers live music other than primarily rock and country western music. Great spot for music, you get up close with the band in their performance, I would recommend however to have some ear buds as some of the space can get really loud. The one of the bartenders was kind enough to just let me have some of their ear buds and that made the night so much better. Since it is down East 6th, parking can be confusing. I talked with one of the staff and she was nice enough to provide some suggestions. Now the elephant in the room, as I was having a conversation with the staff member the supposed manager pushed my hands out of the way and said "Don't get too close". I admit I was close to the member due to the loud music, but I really was just trying to find directions. Felt kind of like an abuse of power, "I can do this because I'm the manager" sort of deal. Soiled a could've been great night, but the music and the staff besides that particular manager are nice. It was a very fun vibe. One person thought I was from the Dominican Republic, which I find quite hilarious being a native Texan. Perhaps I dance like a Latina. Smile. Hotel Vegas also were serving complimentary chips and street tacos. This certainly was a nice touch. This place is deceiving in space. There's a front portion of the place by another name. The back portion where the dancing was taking place was rather small. However, behind the dancing space, was a huge outdoor venue with a raised stage. Needless to say, my friend and I had a big time dancing.
