This was my first Irish breakfast. I was really hesitant to try black pudding but I knew I would need to do it one day or another. The staff was SO HELPFUL. I asked her what would go in to a typical "Irish breakfast" and when I listed what things I liked and didn't like (mushrooms and tomatoes) she said she would be "right back" and this is what she presented. The Irish bread was SO GOOD. They make it in-house and you can really tell. I tried the black pudding first and, let me tell you, it was amazing. As an additional update: recently tried out their catering option - as in - asked them if they could do food (nibbles/canapés plus a few mains and salads) for an event with about 20 people at it. We ordered from their canapé menu (which is excellent) and picked out a few mains (one vegetarian, one not) and some salads. They did a cracking job, and the food was excellent. Canapés were a big hit, and as the event "went on" the hot mains were extremely well received. It worked out great value as well per-head, and the staff at Kennedys were a delight to deal with, helping with menu suggestions as well as with awkward requests (like coeliac friendly canapés). Well worth considering if you're thinking of getting someone else to do the food for an event or a party at home. read more

The first time I came here was few months ago, it is very close to my place and it is always busy... so I gave it try! I was very disapointed, after 5 min waiting standing ( not nice when 5 months pregnant) my capuccino decaf. the girl appologize telling me " Oh I just realise there is no more deca... sorry!!" I was not coming back... But yesterday was another story! I was hungry and needed to go to the loo so I decided to give them another chance. I have been pleasantly surprise. I had a mix strawberry ( mmmmm delicious kinda scone with plenty of big strawberries at the bottom ) with a capuccino decaf. It was FAB. The staff was very nice, quick, helpfull and smiling. The ladies is very small ( but let's say that I am huge : 39 weeks pregnant now - can't see my feet anymore!) was clean and tidy. The small terrasse is also nice on sunny days!! read more

Used to go here all the time when I lived in the area. Excellent food and great service. It opened about 2 years ago and has gone from strength to strength, expanding and incorporating a bistro into the premises. During the day a selection for hot meals are available, these vary from day to day however shepard's pie and lasagna are pretty constant. These meals are severed with delicious bread, cost about 7.50 or 10 with a glass of wine and prove to be reasonable value. Breakfasts, sandwiches, cakes, scones, cookies, teas and coffees are also available and most things can be taken away although cakes need to be pre-ordered. Later in the day it becomes a bistro with a very capable and interesting menu. I got the tuna steak last time I was there and it was excellent!! Under no circumstances allow yourself to miss desert as the kitchen bakes excellent cakes. The decor is stylish but traditional and could suit any occasion. In short I think this is what every local coffee shop should be and recommend it to all. read more

Went back again early Saturday afternoon and had a lovely carrot soup whic was gorgeous and served with beautiful homemade brown bread and a nice knob of real butter. The staff here are always so friendly so once again Kennedys in Farview gerts a big thumbs up from me. read more

I like the way that Fairview is becoming a little bit gentrified by its tenants. Coffee shops like Kennedy's and the Bombay Pantry that opened up past the church, soon the place will be indistinguishable from Rathmines or Dun Laoighaire or one of those places. Kenndy's is a nice little spot down on the main road in Fairview, and it's not been unknown for me to pop in their on the way home from work for a coffee and a read of the paper. I've never tried any of the mains but they look very nice, but suffice to say that the coffee is good and the pastries are mainly good (I hate almond-flavoured things. Not almonds, which I like, but pastries and such with almond fillings. I guess that it's not Kennedy's fault that they sell them and it's just up to me to avoid them). Nice spot. read more

I had a scone and a cappuccino here and both were delicious, the staff are excellent too. They sell teas, jams and nuts. They also serve main courses like Shepard's pie for about 10 euro and judging by the plate that the man next to me got it's really good. He stuffed himself so quickly. They also do sandwiches and breakfasts. It's a popular spot with the locals. read more

A lovely little spot! I was here with a friend for brunch and we were a little disappointed that they had no French toast left. I had a dog mocha after which was lovely and my friend had a blueberry and blackberry cheesecake which she said was "creamy and delicious, but too big to finish!". Have popped in here a few times for the most (seriously) delicious gluten free bread - so tasty it doesn't need butter, although the jam is quite yummy for a sweet treat. Their coffee alone is worth going back for and the staff are very helpful and polite. It's a small space, but very cosy, cute and bright. Love the cups on the walls! A happy place :) read more

Kennedy's is really a great restaurant in Fairview, I love the fact I don't have to go into town for a good meal. The daily special with a glass of wine is really good value. I've eaten a lot in Kennedy's over the years that I have lived in the area. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is friendly and efficient, the tunes are mellow with a homoeopathic dose of urban chic that sometimes makes me think I'm a trendy London eatery. The food on offer varies between what I would call highly configurable and stylish fry up breakfasts which include options that allow you to go "off grease" if such is your want. Call round lunch time and there will be a specials board with a couple of meals which are taste-o-licious, you can pick from a range of sandwiches which are a excellent way to satisfy any Marvins in your company. The Kennedy's Side Salads should be fully documented and disseminated around to other lesser cafés in the country to show them how it's done. For evening service food presentation goes up a notch when you can get served delectable flavours that can force you to breath in through you nose, close your eyes and pause to fully savour that presented to your palate. Kennedy's is a delicious little food shop/café which could hold its head up in the D4 postcode. During the day, you can eat in the admittedly tiny café area - although some hardy souls are still braving the elements and eating in the cordoned-off outside seating area in October. This is a great local pitstop. And worth the trip if you're anywhere in the area. A delicious bistro upstairs and downstairs due the usual but very tasty deli fare. Great sambos, hot dishes such as lasagne, pasta bake, fennell and chilli risotto - good value and very tasty. And the brownies- amazing!! read more

I discovered this little gem in my neighbourhood recently and will definitely be returning. I love the fact you can customise your own breakfast plate with 2 eggs done as you like, 1-3 'favourites' (ie: sausage, ham, spinach, etc) and your choice of bread. It's a tiny place but we didn't have to wait and it looked like those that did only waited for 5-10 minutes. The Kennedy's brown bread is highly recommended! read more

Nice little place for breakfast/brunch. Haven't tried it for dinner yet. The food is excellent; tasty, varied and relatively reasonably priced. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. One of the best things about Kennedy's is the great selection of artisan breads. I would literally commit crimes to get the bread! One word of warning though, if you want to go for Sunday brunch get there early. Its very popular and can fill up fast. read more

This is a lovely little place, and a surprisingly classy joint for Fairview. Kennedy's Food Store is half deli, half cafe and serves excellant food from both. I had coffee and a wonderful muffin with a friend here but people around us were having dinner meals that looked fantastic. I like the look of their breakfast menu so I'll defininatly be back. Seating is a little cramped and I unfortunatly was stuck by the door to the loos; lots of getting up to let people past- so avoid that spot if possible. Kennedy's is a pleasant day time café and also serves evening meals upstairs. Why bother going into the city centre to get ripped off for a meal out when you can stay in Fairview, pop into Kennedy's, have an excellent evening meal and all at a reasonable price in a stylish modern restaurant. If you live in the area, or if Fairview is on your way to town, for me, Kennedy's is a must visit. Prices in 2009 for a three course meal range from €35 - €45 per person, depending on meal and drink consumed with the big plus that the wine list represents excellent value compared to the Dublin city centre restaurants. read more

Used to love coming here for a lovely lunch but the quality has seriously dropped. Whether it's because the sandwiches are toasted when they're not supposed to, there isn't enough fillings or the ciabattas are hot on the outside and cold on the inside, Kennedy's is definitely not what it used to be read more

I read the reviews and headed down to get something nice I thought as all the reviews looked good. 5 stars is way too much, the place is just a nice cafe with mediocre coffe as it was severed way too hot which destroys the flavor. If you I can't get a decent coffee then I'm staying away from the over priced sandwiches. read more

We are regular patrons of Kennedys, in part to support local business, but primarily because our early experiences of eating here were agreeable in all respects. It is disappointing, therefore, to find that of late (over the last 6 months), both food and service quality have deteriorated considerably. So much so, that we have been trying out other alternatives in the local area. We returned to Kennedys today ater an absence of some weeks to be disapointed yet again. The service was lacking, due to insufficient staff and poor attention to detail by those on duty. The poached egg on one plate was burst, the butter was too hard to spread on the badly cut toasted bread. The volume of coffee was noticeably reduced from the usual measure. There was an unacceptable delay at the till when it came time to pay. Finally, the cleanliness of the bathrooms left much to be desired. We are motivated to write this review in the hope that fallen standards might be reversed and returned to former levels. read more
