Although a beautiful venue, we had two very different experiences within a few days as we visited twice since we were staying nearby. The scampi and the Mediterranean salad were both outstanding on our first visit. The service was slow and not very attentive but the place was very busy. On our last day of our holiday, we decided to go back for fish and chips because the scampi had been so good. Fantastic meal, ambiance and service! We had reservations for 7 people at 7pm and were greeted and directed to our seats before the last of us had even entered the restaurant! Lots of drinks and buffalo wings were the highlight for me. I had a beef pie that was very good though the pastry was a little tough. The buffalo potatoes were well undercooked but still nice. Mediocre food, horrible service. Came in on a Thursday night for dinner. Place was crowded, but we found ample space at the back bar area. The bartender eventually came over and I knew we were in trouble when you could read the RBF from 30' away. Started with an order of wings in a 'chili & salt" rub, along with some sauteed onions. Never seen that before but the whole dish was delish! After about an hour, I had to ask for more drinks. We eventually got our food, a 'fajita' on the menu, but prepared and serves more like a fajita burrito, and the Irish burger. The fajita was the best food my daughter has had on this trip. The burger was cold. Not that anyone cared, RBF never came back to say a thing. Had to walk up to the bar to get the check. If you are looking for an amazing pub and restaurant in Clontarf, Dublin, Ireland. I definitely recommend going to The Yacht. This bar is located on the main Clontarf Road and is very well known in the area due to being in the area for many years. Obviously it gone through a lot of renovations and updates over the years. This establishment is great for meeting up with friends for drinks, for lunch and dinner. The bar has plenty of seats, tables on the ground level and upstairs. If you visit during the week for lunch. The Yacht has the most amazing carvery. Great selection of entree's, desserts and coffee. It has being selected as one of the best place lunch over the years in Dublin. Honestly does not surprise me. The lunch was absolutely amazing. I also went to the Yacht for Sunday dinner. Our party ordered drinks to our table and all enjoyed an amazing dinner in the upstairs area of the yacht. Honestly the whole establishment is clean and has very clean restrooms. I was very impressed by all the staff that we encountered at the Yacht. They were all very Professional and took pride in their jobs. Definitely loved the back ground music also. Took me back to the 1980's. It should be noted I am originally from Dublin, Ireland. Traveled all over the world with the US Marines and all over the United States. I definitely know a great bar from all my travels. Also the Yacht was my Dad's local bar during the 1960's and 1970's. If you talk to anyone In Clontarf or from the area everyone seems to have great memories of this establishment. I definitely will be returning to the Yacht upon my next visit to Ireland. As mentioned, The Yacht decided to close its doors for a complete refurbishment. They have now reopened and my review is a positive one. First impressions were very good, the place looks great from the outside and it got more than just a lick of paint. Inside was crowded but there was no problem finding a space at the bar. I don't usually drink Guinness but I just had to try it since they used to pour a very good one - I wasn't disappointed, it was perfect. Not sure if they serve food or not but its my understanding that they do, I will no doubt be going back on another night when its not as busy. All in all, I am a very thankful local that The Yacht is back and better than ever. read more

I became worried when I saw the hoardings up around The Yacht, as I thought they were going to go the way of a lot of northside pubs: closed down and turned into an apartment block (more on the reversal of that trend later, though.) Turns out The Yacht isn't being torn down, they're just giving it a bit of a face-lift. In fairness, they'd want to be mad to close The Yacht, as it's the only pub and off-licence for some distance, so they do fairly good business there. And on a sunny day, you have to get there really early in the day if you fancy getting a seat outside, as there are plenty of people who'll be wanting a spot with a view of the sea, which is only over the road. The other half had a very different experience of The Yacht back in the day -one he could only half recall as we walked into the revamped (and decidedly vampy) wood and tile opulence it is today. Inside, rich fixtures, glittering tiles, wide leather couches (and a lighting scheme worthy of set design on The Godfather) set the scene for a comfy, dressy drink or two. Although it was a Thursday night (is it American to expect bars to be packed on "Thirsty Thursday"?) the bar was almost empty. As he got settled I popped up for a round, coming back with bottles of cider and of lager... and considerably poorer. Hmm. Of course, the service is effortless and the atmosphere a mix of quiet cool and comfort... but clearly those renovation efforts are being recouped from the bottoms of patrons' glasses. I'll have to see visits to The Yacht as a treat for now, unless we can all go at once and pay off the pricey but cool wine wall, rattan outdoor furniture and wraparound bar via a massive feed of pints... any takers? read more

Let me tell you one of the funniest things I've ever heard someone say A business man at lunch time comes into the Yacht and asks local legend barman Jimmy Nolan what type of sandwiches they serve... Disgusting food! I met a friend here on an early evening durning the week. Decided to get some appetisers so I ordered the potato skins. What I got was little more than the actual skin of one small potato. Burned black along most of it. The filling was a few fatty pieces of bacon and very little cheese and tomato (yuk). It was disgusting barely edible. The worst about it was they charge 6.95 for it!!! I would never at here again and the only reason I gave two stars instead of one was the bar staff were quite nice. read more

i really like the food in here. carvery is not too bad and you can actually ask for 1/2 portion and not be under 12. but i like the late menu best, the pasta with chicken, bacon and rocket is really good and a good sized portion. tried a couple of cocktails, the pina colada and the woo woo and i would'nt be going regular for cocktails. but after a long walk from fairview to the wooden bridge they are nice and refreshing. the decor is relaxed and comfy but this place doesnt seem like a place id go for a night out but rather for an early evening. read more

This is a lovely Old School type of pub with views over the sea. Don't expect Haute Cuisine....What you get is massive portions of pub grub. Their menu was endless....burgers, grill, seafood, pasta, stir fry's, carvery.... Still, nothing really grabbed my attention, so I just had the soup of the day and French fries (definitely from frozen and not so skinny either :-( !) These were both not photo worthy, but did the trick (stilled my hunger). I had a sugar craving and their desserts looked amazing. Had a lovely light, fluffy pavlova. Having frequented the Yacht many times before it was closed for refurbishment I was very eager to see what kind of improvements they'd done with the place. So off along I went on a Friday evening with some friends to check it out. We were all very impressed with what they've done - the bar is positioned in the heart of the venue with lots of tables and standing room to the front plus there's now a big cosy fireplace on one side of the bar. The atmosphere was great with lots of familiar faces from the surrounding neighborhoods propping up the bar. I'll definitely be back for an evening there over the Christmas period and will try make it in during the day to check out the food. read more

I've lived on 'd Nortsoide for a few years, and even before that I had frequented this establishment for their Sunday Carvery. This is by far, and the majority of locals...,. Who you will meet in there - will agree, the best carvery to be had in Dublin. Anyway, Having been here before the revamp, and then seeing ques outside at 12 after it re-opened, told me it was still good. However the next time I darkened their door was for a BDay night out. ....... hmm, it was great that the staff made sure it was only us in our 'area' but as the night wore on we worked out it was a dull pub with no where we could walk to for entertainment. But back to the great carvery, so I was in there a week or two later, coming back from Howth at 4:30 (pm :P) and there was the suggestion that we would stop in here. There I was thinking you had better get there quick because whatever chance you have of them serving carvery after 3pm on a Sunday you have even less chance of after 5. I WAS SOOOO WRONG!! They serve carvery until 7pm on Sat and Sunday! 7pm is unheard of, but even at 4:50 they were still packed (this is a testement to how good the carvery is) If I think of The Yacht I think of their carvery and it is well placed, if you are think of going for drinks..... plan your escape for later in the night..... nothing to see here! And, while I fill out what 'extras' they have.... Parking? Whenever I go it's always crowded, I believe this happens because there are not many pubs around this area in Clontarf, however the pub/bar/restaurant is very well located, facing the coast road. Yep since it's make over a while back this place is a pretty swanky spot. I love that sophisticated mahogany bar with friendly bar staff and great floor service. The food menu has a wonderfully wide variety for all kinds of taste buds and is of excellent quality and is so reasonably priced. The car park can be a bit of a squeeze on a Sunday afternoon, however if you forward plan and park somewhere along the coast you'll minimize disappointment or aggro trying to get in. Staying in clontarf, this was one of the biggest restaurants. They seem to always have an open table. Much better pub food than some though not as authentic a feel. Temple bar isn't exactly authentic either but you're in Ireland. You need live music every night! Anyway, great curry, fish and chips, seafood chowder, and basically everything on the menu. The Yacht was just around the corner from our B&B, so we dropped in here on our first night in Dublin after a looooong trip in from SFO. As recommendation from the concierge I felt we should be in good hands for dinner. We had a party of 7 and surprisingly they jammed us into a table for 5. Our party also included 2 small children and after adding a child seat to the already cramped table we were all a bit put off but we decided to persevere hearing that the food was good. As always I feel compelled to help my fellow Yelpers: when we say the service is "amazing" but it never happens because they waitress is always too busy to "serve", I'm at a loss over your use of the language. The service was good, when it showed up, but the timing was off and it never seemed to happen without flagging someone down. This is a direct reflection of the style of pay for staff in Europe vs US. And since you Americans don't tip worth a damn when you travel abroad, like you are on some holiday from doing what's RIGHT! The staff generally reflects what management can afford to pay when they are not busy and they give Americans a wide birth because you ask for too much, nay demand, and really you just have poor manners. Otherwise the food was good, not great, but better than average. There is a large selection of choices, perhaps too many, for those of you in the restaurant business: too many is not a good sign. The service was amazing the waitress's were busy so you have to flag them down to get anything extra, but I noticed the locals having to do the same thing. The bar man/ manager was very nice and funny. He brought me a bunch of sampler beers to help make my choice on my first beer in Ireland.
