Agustin's shop is clean, whimsically decorated with a really cool fish and turtle pond in front and the reptiles and birds are very well taken care of. Agustin helped me out a couple of years ago when I had to move my Mom out of her home and into an Assisted Living Facility and had to re-home her two large birds. Agustin found a buyer for her Moluccan Cockatoo at a fair price and a home for her other bird. I continue to frequent Agustin's for a feeder rat for my daughter's snake. I have noticed prices have gone up considerably over the years but what hasn't. I do appreciate their frequent feeder mouse/rat card and that they use double paper bags for the critters because they do like to chew free. They always have a great display of reptiles and birds I like to walk through, too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for your reptile and bird needs.

So I returned all that other gear & am starting from scratch. Fernando eased My initial anxiety arriving as a total tank newbie, and gave Me a tour of the various low-maintenance plants I could start My nitrogen cycling with. I came again today and brought a friend and she was also so happy we stayed there for like an hour just looking at everything. They have multiple rooms and a lot of tanks. The store seems small but it's not ; there's a lot of variety of fish, plants, and shrimp. Today there were red root floaters, one of the employees actually grew them - they were so healthy and super red I had to buy 3 cups !! I got more dwarf water lettuce bc my axolotl loved hanging in the roots. Staff today was super nice and helpful. There were 2 guys. It was extremely busy when I came like 10 people and they were helping everyone collaboratively. I hate when an employee only focuses on 1 customer who takes forever thinking and observing and there's a ton of ppl waiting. It wasn't like that here, the guy would answer a question and move on to another client. Also when the guy was fishing out some shrimp he was still talking to other customers and answering questions. The owner came across as rude and had an unfriendly attitude, which made the whole experience worse. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place.

So I see they have a handful of tarantulas and I want to get one. I flagged down an employee who sed only the manger could help me with the animal. Ok never had that problem anywhere else but ok. So he says he'll be right with me... we wander and wait for almost 20 min. Manager comes over and says I see you're interested in getting one of our tarantulas. I say yes and he proceeds to say "unfortunately we are done selling animals for the night and that I'd have to come back tomorrow". I literally was like are you joking?! He sed no I'm not I just used the last of my time to help someone with a hamster and I have to tend to the animals in the back befor I run out of time. It was only 7:15pm. They close at 9pm. I asked if someone else could help me. He sed no because no one there is trained to handle the animals. (I've quite literally purchased animals 10 min before closing and someone anyone has always helped me) I asked if I could purchase the tarantula and then retrieve it on my own if they unlocked and gave me a box he sed "Sorry no we don't allow that" (Again I've done it befor multiple times-sometimes because an employee was terrified of touching the spiders) So I leave annoyed and confused and kinda ticked off that I waited when I was told I was gonna be helped. Didnt think I was gonna be back the next day but there I was picking up dog food bright and early with my friend and we stop in again. I walk up to Franco and ask if he could help me out with the purchase of an animal. "No problem" he says. Another employee helps me with filling out paperwork and Franco asks if I have the proper set up. I let him know I'm a keeper of Ts as I call them and he lets me know he's the general manager. So I ask him some questions regarding the day before. I told him it would've taken not even 5 mins to collect the tarantula cause at that very moment the employee who helped me with paper work came back in less than 5min with the T I requested and sed she was so calm and cooperative. He apologized for the employees rudeness and lack of customer service aswell as for me having to come all the way back out (I live near west la). 7seas is a bit of a mixed bag for me. On the positive side, they have a really great selection of…read morefish and dry goods. Tanks, lights, filters, hardscape, supplies, you name it. They also clearly know what they're doing. The staff is knowledgeable and can answer questions without giving you that blank stare you sometimes get at other aquarium shops. But the pricing is honestly kind of shocking. A lot of their equipment is outrageously overpriced compared to what you can find online or even at other local stores. For example, I saw a UNS double valve connector selling for about $60 when the same thing is easily available online for around $20. They also had the Kessil 35° reflector priced at $50, and I've never seen those go for more than $30 or $35 anywhere else. I get that local fish stores have overhead and can't always compete with online pricing, and I'm totally fine paying a little more to support a brick and mortar shop. But some of these markups feel excessive. If you need something immediately and don't mind paying a premium, it's a solid store with good selection and knowledgeable staff. Just be prepared for some pretty steep prices on certain items. Overall I'd say it's worth visiting, but definitely price check before buying equipment.
