We had a good time at the Savannah Bananas game that was held at the stadium. I imagine this was just a random thing but the seats we were in had a lot of little red mites crawling on them. Nothing that would harm us, but it was just weird! Parking for this stadium is not great. read more

Centrally located on UNC's incomparable Chapel Hill campus, Kenan Memorial Stadium is a perfectly sized, 50,000-seat facility with terrific sight lines, airy concourses and an intimate vibe. Seats in the lower bowl are comfortable (if a bit tight), and provide great views of the field. I was surprised at the small size of the student section in the west endzone, but even after Bill Belichick's arrival, Carolina is still first and foremost a basketball school. Food options are better than I would've expected at a college football stadium, from Carolina BBQ and nachos to Chick-fil-A and Merritt's (IYKYK), but the beer selection could use some improvement. There are a handful of local options (Sky Blue Kolsch is the most widely available Carolina craft), but Modelo and Budweiser are the dominant choices. Parking on game days can be tough unless you're a Rams Club member, so buy a pass early if you want a spot on-campus or score one on Franklin St. But a walk through the gorgeous Carolina campus is always a good choice, especially on a crisp fall day during football season. So get to campus early, stop by the Old Well for a photo, and take the game day experience in the Lower Quad. Then follow the crowds into Kenan and get ready to cheer on the Heels! read more

Kenan Memorial Stadium is home to the North Carolina Tar Heels football team. My first visit to this stadium was in 1999 for the NCHSAA (North Carolina High School Athletic Association) Class AA football state championship between my high school, High Point Central (High Point), and Southwest Onslow (Jacksonville). We won, 30-7, and finished the season undefeated with a 15-0 record. I haven't been to a lot of college football stadiums; probably less than 10. The most memorable thing about Kenan Stadium to me are all the trees that surround the stadium. There's something peaceful and serene about it. Walking through the trees to get to the stadium is unlike anything I've experienced or seen at any other football (or for that matter, basketball) venue. It's unique. You can see the trees from inside the stadium too. It gives off a sort of traditional, idyllic college campus vibe. This is in stark contrast to the football stadium where I went to college, Georgia Tech. Instead of trees, Bobby Dodd Stadium has views of the Downtown and Midtown Atlanta skylines. In the ACC, Carolina and Tech's football stadiums are similar in size; they come in at the middle to lower end of the pack, capacity-wise. Kenan Stadium can hold about 51,000 while Bobby Dodd can hold about 55,000. Clemson has the biggest stadium in the ACC (81,500) while Wake Forest (31,500) has the smallest. As for Kenan Stadium itself, nothing really sets it apart from other college football stadiums I've been to. The football watching experience and atmosphere are comparable to most other college games I've attended. Kenan has a horseshoe design with the east end zone stands separated. The facilities are fine, but you can tell they've been around for a while. This is the second oldest football stadium in the conference (opened in 1927) behind Dodd (1913). read more

Beautiful stadium with plenty of restrooms and concession stands. Parking however, is extremely limited around the stadium. You can park in one of the surrounding lots and take a bus shuttle. The lines for the shuttles after a game are VERY long. You'll need to walk quite a bit so keep that in mind if you have children or people who cannot walk long distances. It can take 45 minutes or longer just to get to your vehicle and be on your way again. Overall, it's a great facility but make sure you allow enough time for parking. read more

Kenan Stadium is a great place to watch a football game and a few improvements have been made in recent years. The torturous (after an hour or so) steel bleachers have been replaced by individual seats and you can now purchase cold beer at the games. They also installed field turf earlier this year, which looks pretty sharp. Definitely worth checking out but be warned that the concourse areas can get insanely crowded during halftime, so plan your food/restroom runs accordingly. read more

LOL My only negative hence the 4 rather than 5 stars, No Wi-Fi, Verizon is a sponsor, Time Warner is huge in NC and no Wi-Fi and the stadium it self is a black hole for connectivity for Verizon. There is a tremendous level of pride at the University of North Carolina and the Kenan family name is prominent. The most prominent is the beautiful state of the art football stadium located just off the Bell Tower on the Chapel Hill campus. 1. There is not a bad seat in the house. Not too big and big enough to make it loud 2. Fireworks, bands, cheerleaders and dancers all making for a great half time show 3. Jumbo tron screen is amazing and such clarity 4. Many entrance points 5. Great concessions with bottomless popcorn for $10.00. 6. Shade on one side and sun on the other (personal choice) 7. Overhang seating in the event of rain Overall, such a great stadium and great experience to be part of a game there. read more

Full disclosure: I am a longtime volunteer usher at Kenan Stadium. I'm at all home games, but in a volunteer capacity, not as a paying patron. A few years ago they replaced the bench seats with individual seats, which diminished the overall capacity but did make seating more comfortable. It's smack in the middle of campus which means parking is always an issue, but then again you can enjoy the nearby campus sites like seeing surrounding trees and the Bell Tower. Most sitelines are decent, unless maybe you're in the way upper rows in the upper deck. UNC fans aren't the most rowdy fans, and that's good and bad. They can be lackluster at times but then again there are fewer drunk jerks (believe me, I've dealt with many opposing fans who were just rude and awful). The athletic department is always trying to improve the game-day experiences with new videos, features and concessions. Good to see local businesses like Merritt's (legendary BLTs and Al's Burger Shack represented besides larger chains. In the fall of 2019 they introduced beer and wine sales throughout the stadium as well, and again I like that they do offer a few local microbrews. Depending on the time of year, the sunny side of the stadium can get pretty hot or pleasantly mild when the temps get colder. read more

Very beautiful, picturesque stadium sitting in the middle of campus between the pine trees. We always tailgate at the Cardinal deck across from the hospital for $10. It is maybe a mile walk or so to the stadium. The stadium is being renovated this year and the silver benches are being replaced with Carolina blue chairs with arm rest. Cell service can be very spotty. I think if you sit in the first 15-20 rows behind either bench, you wont be able to see over the players standing on the sidelines. I prefer to sit on the 2nd level. All in all, I am a Tar Heel fan and will support them as much as possible, as long as it fits into the schedule. read more

Overall, this isn't a bad stadium - not as nice as some other ACC stadiums I've been to (Go Tigers!) but on par with the other North Carolina schools. The scoreboards could be improved since it's hard to see replays clearly at times. Otherwise, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Most of the seats are chairs vs. bleachers which is nice. I like that it's actually located on UNC's campus unlike NC State, and in close proximity to Franklin Street so you can walk over and grab a bite to eat before or after the game. The concessions options are pretty good and offer a good variety at a reasonable price for a sporting event (I'm so happy that they have Merritt's BLT sandwiches there). In terms of parking, it's relatively easy to find public parking nearby, though I've only gone to games on UNC's down years.......there is also a bus called the Tar Heel Express that takes you to/from shuttle lots in the area - see Chapel Hill's website for more info. read more

We enjoyed our time here. We attended this game with my sons Pop Warner football team. The campus is beautiful and the student/alumni energy was fantastic. The overwhelming sense of pride that was exhibited here was infectious! The student staff responsible to escort the teams and coaches did a great job of leading us to our desired destinations. As a team, the kids were allowed to walk with the team to the stadium through the crowd of screaming fans! Rameses the team mascot was the star of the show. NC State grad who had not been to Keenan for over a decade on principle. Friend offered to take me to the UNC-Miami game and I accepted. Located in the middle of campus it is quite impressive from an aesthetic standpoint. No tailgating to speak of near the Stadium and I recommend taking the Bus as the traffic is a Nightmare. Stadium itself has both positives and negatives. Many concession choices including local favorites, Merrits and Al's. We sat on the aisle,which proved to be a major headache. Thee bleacher design requires you to get up and stand in the aisle every time somebody has to get by you! We sat on the visitors side on a bright, late October Afternoon, 71 degrees and we roasted. I can only imagine what it must be like in Aug/Sept. To summarize, beautiful location, good concessions, no tailgating, and average seating. Small wonder it was only at half its capacity. read more

The most important thing about Kenan Stadium is your ability to buy frozen lemonade drinks at a variety of locations within the stadium. The second most important thing is that you can watch football here. Kenan may not be the biggest football stadium around, but it certainly gets the job done. In all the times I've ever been here, I don't think I've seen it packed full. That's probably because UNC isn't a huge football school, but whatever the reason, it's about the right size. My only real gripe is the comfort. Could they have made these seats - bleachers - less comfortable? I would love to see what that would entail. The bleachers at my high school football stadium were better than this. There are practically spikes all over them. Wow. The facilities are clean, numerous, and well-staffed, and the giant TV screen (what's that thing called, again?) really helps out a lot compared to how things used to be. read more

UNC is my favorite college team so I guess this is a little bit biased. However because I'm a UNC fan, it would be unfitting to not go to any football games. I actually went to two games this year and I had a really good time. Kenan Stadium is the home of the UNC football program and it is a really nice stadium. It's big, there are a lot of seats, and it creates a great atmosphere for watching football. They just added a new section to the stadium and it is really nice. There aren't any special foods, except for Smitty's ice cream, which I really love because they put all these Carolina blue sprinkles. It's too bad I have to wait another year to watch another football game. GO HEELS!!! read more

Carolina football is a depressing affair, what with the good ol' boys trying to relive their glory days, the boosters who believe UNC can be a football school, and the absurdly dressed frat stars and sorority girls in their seersucker, croakies, and pearls. And now that we're paying the horrendous Butch Davis $2.5mil to strive for the Car Care Bowl, it's even more of a joke. That said, there are few places I'd rather spend a gorgeous Chapel Hill afternoon than in Kenan. Great seats for students, wonderful views of the bell tower, the campus and the trees that dot the university, make this one of college football's greatest stadiums (as long as you watch out for the airplane bottles strewn across the bathroom floors.) Unfortunately, Ol' Butch is going to turn this all to hell with new luxury boxes and enclosing the end zone next year. Enjoy it while it lasts... read more

I remember my first collegiate football game very well. I'm not much for sports, and after having the rules of the game 'translated' for me by many a man in my life (and having also --regrettably-- watched many a Madden and ESPN Football virtual-tournament), I've still yet to retain much about the mechanics of the actual sport. However. I do remember (with fondness!) Kenan Stadium where UNC football is played (though too often not played very well). Not a huge stadium, especially compared to what you get in Texas, but still large enough to comfortably accommodate the crowds. Plenty of places to get food and drink and those little Carolina blue and white pom-pom thingies on a stick. The new-ish (installed in 2002 or somewhere around there) big screen is really remarkable -- enough to make any Tarheel proud. Kenan also plays host to occasional events (graduation ceremonies, Bruce Springsteen concerts, etc.). read more

It's imposing figure draws people from all over Chapel Hill: from exercise fanatics that run stairs, to the freshmen that believe there's a slight chance this may be the year that football wins it all. Great tradition and history at Kenan Stadium along with a beautiful campus. The only negative is that the stadium seating was designed by a person that measured about 5'6" in height or a number cruncher that figured that a few more seats might could be sold in the event of a sale out. At 6'2" I have to engage in "man spreading" just to fit between the bleachers. read more
