On the other side of the concession stand, to the left of the entrance is an open rink (could be used for basketball, hockey or the like), where some very close friends of mine and I played rounds of "pro" dodgeball (in the style of pro-dodgeball) until we got to the tournament round and the best team won! Yes, that was the team I played on, mind you, I had about 4 pretty tough guys playing with the two of us ladies that were on the team. I managed to "dodge, dip, duck, dive & dodge" the ball as the pre-training from the movie "Dodgeball" emphasizes. It was a fun time with a great group of people, if you're so brave as schedule yourselves in there and play dodgeball or anything in a team atmosphere, go for it, its an awesome place.

There's ample parking, a snack shack, and courts to the right and left. When I've attended, pretty much every court is in play -- soccer, hockey, and volleyball. You can register a team for a fee and they organize the match-ups for a season's worth of games (a few months). But be warned that some of their games can be scheduled as late as 11pm.

Seats in the lower bowl are comfortable (if a bit tight), and provide great views of the field. I was surprised at the small size of the student section in the west endzone, but even after Bill Belichick's arrival, Carolina is still first and foremost a basketball school. Food options are better than I would've expected at a college football stadium, from Carolina BBQ and nachos to Chick-fil-A and Merritt's (IYKYK), but the beer selection could use some improvement. There are a handful of local options (Sky Blue Kolsch is the most widely available Carolina craft), but Modelo and Budweiser are the dominant choices. Parking on game days can be tough unless you're a Rams Club member, so buy a pass early if you want a spot on-campus or score one on Franklin St. But a walk through the gorgeous Carolina campus is always a good choice, especially on a crisp fall day during football season. So get to campus early, stop by the Old Well for a photo, and take the game day experience in the Lower Quad. Then follow the crowds into Kenan and get ready to cheer on the Heels!

My first impression was that parking for "event" signage was very poor/lacking, and though there was a lot of staff presence, our ability to find legal parking was way more complicated and stressful than it needs to be. We ended up finding a spot about a block away, but it required us to wait until 5pm for that particular "one hour limit" to stop being enforced. And all of the meters and lots seemed to have different limits, but all were very actively enforced by campus police. Rush hour traffic was very slow, and the roads to this arena can be gridlocked around game times. Concessions at Fetzer Field were available in no fewer than 4 locations, which was convenient to some extent, and the selection of each was different. The selection of concessions was superior to most stadiums, including brand name Bojangles which was a nice add. The $5 ice cream, however was a puny scoop. I did not think the hand scooped novelties made sense, and I particularly question the use of "Duke" blue and white in their sprinkles. My opinion was that they should sell prepackaged frozen treats to cut the price in half! While they did offer dip'n'dots as well, I would not buy that brand either. At some stadiums I've gotten a half pint of real ice cream for less than the $5 which I paid for this small scoop in the tiniest "to go" cup you've ever seen. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. This arena was family friendly including bathroom with baby changing table. The UNC website says: Children six and under are admitted for free. (It used to be 12 and under, which is more comparable to everywhere else that I've been.) However, whoever was working that day must have been confused with the Tarheels' basketball arena policy, which only allows for children that are 2 and under. I begged in for my young son without a ticket. It felt strange to have to ask multiple people and find that they were not even familiar with their published policy, which I had researched beforehand.

They got rid of the track and build the stands up closer to the field, you're much closer to the action now and can sit on both sides, along with one endline -- in the old Fetzer, you could only sit on one side. There are individual stadium seats but they are not comfortable, the seatbacks push your back up too far. UNC's soccer and lacrosse teams (both men's and women's) are usually ranked, so you'll see good quality play here. They also have concessions and restrooms. If it's during early fall or late spring, it could get hot and sunny. Bring some sunscreen on those days.

The rafters are home to a collection of jerseys that could make up the roster for an NBA Legends team, featuring names like Jordan, Worthy, Perkins and Jamison, along with the coach for whom the building is named -- the legendary Dean E. Smith. With a capacity of nearly 22,000, it's one of the largest venues in college hoops, and there's rarely an empty seat in the house when the Heels are playing. The energy here is indescribable -- from the electric pregame festivities to the halftime show, it's one of the best experiences in all of college sports. In 2025, the University of North Carolina began discussions about replacing the 40-year old Dean Dome with a new arena, either elsewhere on campus or at Carolina North, a planned satellite campus a few miles north in Chapel Hill. But while the Dome's aging roof and narrow concourses support a credible argument for a replacement, it's hard to imagine the UNC campus without it. Here's hoping the UNC Board of Trustees sees the wisdom of renovating this wonderful arena to ensure it's continued role in college basketball lore. The Dean Smith Center is an experience no fan of the game should miss!

Situated amongst the academic halls, the stadium is a bit of a walk from nearby parking. The arena essentially has been the same since its construction and has a capacity for 9314 spectators, making it one of the smallest venues for NCAA basketball. That makes it a tough and expensive ticket to get. I was there last Saturday for their game against the SMU Mustangs who are / were ranked in the top twenty five, so of course the crowd was extra lively. Also, they honored the '01 championship team and Coach K was in attendance. It was a great experience. This arena is "hallowed ground" amongst the fandom of college basketball. The history and tradition of Duke University and their basketball program is unmatched in my honest opinion. I'm lucky enough to have attended two games here, the last one being in '18 against my Alma Mater St John's University who got blown out that day. The amenities here are enough to keep you happy. They have the usual arena fare. Smithfield's has a sandwich cart and there are a few Mexican themed carts for nachos and tacos. I think Alpaca Peruvian Chicken has a cart as well. The concessions offer candy, popcorn, burgers, hot dogs etc.. Nothing extraordinary. You can purchase beer and wine. You are here to watch great basketball and not necessarily for the A+ concession offerings that people expect these days.

With less than 10,00 seats here, to watch one of the best programs in the country play, this place gets insane! The Cameron Crazies and all the fans get very loud in here. The energy is unmatched. Make sure to come and check out the campus prior to the game, it's absolutely beautiful. Also go check out the campus stores for all your Duke gear/memorabilia needs. I have a man cave in my home with all Duke stuff, which mostly came from here. There's one right across from the stadium. DDMF!
