Silver (who we adopted on the left) is so sweet, well socialized, and gets along with our older dog Penny who we've had for 10 years
Brittany S.

Ken and Martie are wonderful people who truly care about making sure their dogs are well cared for and end up in good homes. The adoption process was very easy and Martie was communicative, supportive, and friendly. They provided full medical records of the dog and she explained everything. She wanted to make sure we felt confident in our decision. She also offered advice about how to welcome a second dog into our home and some resources for training since he's still a puppy. Before we were able to meet Silver, Martie sent me a video of him and their other dogs made cameos in it - they all looked so happy, sweet, and well-cared for! And it seems like Ken and Martie do a good job of socializing the dogs under their care. I would absolutely recommend Ken-Mar Rescue to anyone looking to adopt.

Had an incredible experience adopting my very first dog through Ken Mar Rescue. They were communicative throughout the whole process and even worked with my availability for a meet and greet, moving it up earlier in the week when I had a conflict. The adoption gifts were wonderful and made it so that I had the basics and even a little extra for my dog. I havent had any complaints, they've been so wonderful and I still talk often to them and send pictures. I'd definitely recommend!

Our family is now complete

The adoption experience we had with Ken-Mar was very friendly, open, and professional. We had phone conversations, they answered all of our questions, and they are willing to continue to support us going forward. We are now part of the ken-mar family. We absolutely love our little Bunny girl.

I'm so glad we found Ken-Mar Rescue. We have never had a pet before and were not quite sure what to expect. When we saw Peko's (now Benny) little face, we had to reach out. Martie and Ken are wonderful. They were thorough in their process - asking about our home, work, environment, what expectations we had in looking for a furry friend and communicating the personality they had seen in this little guy so far. We couldn't have asked for a better experience as first time pet parents. Martie provided information and has continued to follow up and answer any questions we had after bringing Benny home.

Thank you for saving this little pup and providing am amazing adoption process for me.

I am so grateful for the Ken-Mar Rescue that was able to match me with my dream rescue puppy. Martie, one of owners, is amazing with communication. She called me within a half hour of submitting my application for my little pup. She explained the process and was not only thorough, but inviting. Her love for animals is so evident just by hearing her speak over the phone. Martie went over the entire medical history they had on the little guy explaining every line to me. Her and Ken provided instruction on how to care for my new family member and even provided us with a goodie bag and food for him. They said to reach out if we had any questions and she also checked in the day after I adopted him to see how the first night went. I have been so blessed by Ken and Martie and cannot praise what they are doing enough.

Sunshine is the best 5lb dog ever. We've only had her 3 wks and Love her soooo much!!!

We are so happy with Ken-Mar Rescue. They specialize in small dogs, which is exactly what we wanted. I fell In love with Sunshine's face in her rescue photo. Martie is the best!! She responded promptly to mu inquiry and is very organized. She interviewed me over the phone, asked what we were wanting in a dog. Told her we wanted small dog, not yappy, can carry, travel with, and be our companion lap buddy. Martie knows her dogs well, she felt Sunshine would be great candidate and arranged for meet & greet that same week. Marty & husband Ken brought Sunshine to our house to inspect if yard is secure, which is very conscientious of them to ensure dog will be safe. Sunshine is exactly as she described: Very Quiet, doesn't bark, shy at first, doesn't bite, house trained, very well behaved and very smart. They rescued her from West Valley Shelter where she would've been euthanized if not adopted. Thank goodness for people like Ken & Martie at Ken-Mar Rescue who help these poor animals in need of Good homes. Sunshine was very unsocialized, she didn't even know how to walk on leash or go up and down stairs. She was scared and shy for first 2 days and didn't engage with us, but on 3rd day, i came home from work and she ran to greet me and wagged her tiny tail ... my heart melted. She knew she was home to stay!! Ken-Mar really cares for their rescue dogs. The $400 adoption fee is like a Donation going to a Great Cause, and included: spay/neuter, micro chip, vet exam with teeth cleaning, vaccinations, and new dog bed, harness, leash, toys, and food.

My family and I have wanted to adopt a dog for a long time and came across Ken-Mar Rescue through petfinder when we saw Scooby. We filled out an application for Scooby (which was very easy by filling out a questionnaire). After sending the application, Ken-Mar got back to us quickly regarding our acceptance for a meet up. A few days later Ken and Martie came to our house for a furry meet and greet. They were so helpful in regards to which foods to buy/avoid, recommended medications and answered all of our questions! The donation fee includes toys, a bed, treats and food which helped our furry new family member transition to living with us. Overall we are so grateful for Ken-Mar rescue and we love Scooby!

Martie and Ken are 2 amazing people doing truly amazing work. We saw Lucy (our new little girl) on pet finder and I just had a feeling she fit in to our family like a missing puzzle piece. I filled out and application and sent an email and I heard back right a way . We live our in San Diego further then they usually adopt but Martie must have known we were the right fit. We able to schedule a home check and pick up just a few days later. We are so happy to have Lucy. She fits in to are family perfectly. Thank you Martie and Ken!!!!!

Pixo, the happiest dog on Earth!

These guys and girls are the best! They love dogs as much as you do and it shows. They really look into who is going to rescue the pup and they make it worth your while once you get the green light.

We added a four-legged family member thanks to Ken-Mar rescue. Their application was straight forward but thorough, and we got a response right away. In fact, their communication throughout the whole process was fantastic and very professional. We could tell right away that they are compassionate and knowledgable people that take care and pride in what they do. They answered our questions and made sure that the dog we were interested in would be the right fit, alleviating any of our concerns. They worked with our schedule, and toured our home remotely via video-chat to ensure our place would make the perfect home. Our little guy is going to take some work to be more social, but Ken put it into perspective that we were his 4th place in one month (original home, shelter, Ken-Mar, us). Obviously that would be a nervous experience for any dog. Anyways, as seen here our dog has taken to his new home very quickly. This place is highly recommended.

We LOVE Molly from Ken-Mar Rescue! She's a perfect new member of our family. Thank you!

Finding a pet through adoption can be a challenge. This is good because adopting is an important responsibility. Ken-Mar Rescue was terrific because you can feel how much care they have for the animals and how nice, informative and easy they were to work with. We instantly trusted their opinions when we were searching... and that sure paid off because we can't be happier with our little doggo! Ken-Mar is as thorough with the animals' records and details as they are pleasant to talk to. Not only will you have a great experience, but you will get an animal that you can trust has been vetted, observed, cared for and loved while in their transition to YOUR home. When finding an animal: Step 1. Always Adopt. Step 2. Go to Ken-Mar Rescue. Thank you Ken-Mar! Expect holiday cards with Molly

We highly recommend Ken-Mar Rescue for adopting your next fur baby. Ken and Martie were super thorough about making sure our family and house would be a good fit for the new pup, and they communicated with us about everything we needed to know about Tabbie (now named Bailey) and how to transition her into our home. Martie was very quick about answering any questions we had. The meet-and-greet with Bailey and our current dog was a huge success as they had arranged for them to meet in a neutral location to make sure they would both get along. Overall, it was a very smooth adoption process and we have loved adding Bailey to our family.

Ask the Community - Ken-Mar Rescue

Do you need to apply online to adopt or can you do it in person?

Can we adopt?

Of course, or foster. I have adopted two dogs through them and am fortunate that they are both great dogs! I highly recommend them!

Do you guy have puppies and also do you guy nutured right away?

Can I bring my kids here to pet and play with the dogs?

Ken Mar operates from a private home. They bring the dogs to you or you can meet the dogs at adoption events. You can call them. Their phone number is on their website.

Does anyone know if they accept dogs found by the public? I just found a dog, unfortunately I can't keep her with me, but I would like to take her to a safe shelter and this place looks like a good place. Can I take her there?

Do you guys need volunteers with animals that have been left from the fires?

How often do you get Boston terriers?

Rarely

We found a Chi/ pug mix at the Humane Society of Jamestown and made an appt for a Saturday when we both would be off work. Frida and "Tango" seemed to hit it off immediately at the greeting. They played well and it seemed like a great fit. The facility was impressive and the girl who brought "Tango" in for the meet and greet was sweet. We went to lunch and talked about it and decided to take him home. They said we could foster for a month to decide. We filled out the application for that and took him home to Modesto. "Tango" turned out to be full of energy and Frida being older had a hard time adjusting. We did everything we could to monitor them together and they seemed to work it out on their own. On the site, before even contacting them, he was 3. As we had him longer, it became apparent that he was younger. Luckily Frida is quite tolerant and they play well even though "Tango" wants to rough house a lot. My biggest concerns: They never asked to see pics of our home/ yard. We seemed to have the opposite experience than most of the others that reviewed. They handed him over almost too easily. They didn't check on him for over 2 weeks. When they finally called i brought up his age, they said they'd look at his file and that he was 1.5 years. I had seen another dog on their site that interested us, and asked about him and the girl rudely asked "so you may want to bring back "Tango" and try "Chico"? and I said we could possibly want to adopt them both. She said "Chico" had a leg issue and was going to see a specialist. I said I'd like to know the outcome. Her general attitude was put-out at best. We decided to keep "Tango" and he is now called Lanegan. I called them about 5 days before the 30 day foster was up to pay his adoption fee and was never asked one question about how he has doing, how they get along. Nothing!!! I found that really sad that they cared so little about his well being and adjustment to our home. Just and over all strange experience. We are happy with Lanegan and Frida seems to enjoy having a new friend around.

I have not personally adopted or fostered any animals through Friends of the Animal Community…read more(FOAC). I cannot speak from experience in that respect. That being said - I have encountered Friends of the Animal Community often at events in the area, and I have personally witnessed the positive impact that they have had and continue to make within the Tuolumne community. From FOAC's hardworking volunteers - to the inspiring community that rallies around them through donations, fostering, etc - FOAC has cultivated a powerful network of kind animal loving individuals, who work tirelessly to help animals in need. It can be challenging for many people to adopt or foster - due to space concerns, rental rules, funds etc. The number of animals needing homes in the Tuolumne area is staggering. FOAC is often limited with what they can do - due to limited space, limited funds, and limited foster/adoptive homes - but they never stop persevering. FOAC regularly uses social media to increase awareness about animals that need help in the area. Sometimes it is a social media post about a dog that recently lost its owner. Sometimes it is a post about a cat that needs to be re-homed. Sometimes it is asking for immediate fosters for new puppies. The list goes on. I am often blown away by the power of a FOAC social media post. It is inspiring how quickly people will respond on a FOAC post about an animal in need. Sometimes people step right up and offer to foster and/or adopt (they will then go through the proper formal application process to proceed). Sometimes people will tag friends - who may be looking to adopt or foster. Sometimes people will offer donations to help with medical costs etc. Sometimes people will offer virtual love and share out the post. No matter how people show up - the most important thing is that they do. FOAC gets this. They welcome all support. FOAC and their volunteers are always quick to respond to questions on social media posts. Not only do they answer quickly, but they answer honestly. They recognize the urgency to find safe loving homes - whether they be temporary or permanent - for the beautiful and often scared animals in their care. You can learn more about FOAC events, and or ways that you can get donate and/or get more involved with FOAC here: https://www.foac.us Please see the official info about Friends of The Animal Community directly taken from their website: "Friends of the Animal Community (FOAC) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization dedicated to meeting the medical and social needs of adoptable pets, providing the path to a loving forever home. We rescue and adopt dogs, cats and other animals. We are a small organization dedicated to relieving over-crowding at Tuolumne County Animal Control (AC); promoting the health of abused and abandoned animals; reducing unnecessary euthanasia; and ultimately expediting movement of homeless dogs into permanent, loving homes. As its name denotes, FOAC also provides assistance in meeting the needs of pets belonging to people in our community. These needs include re-homing a pet whose owner must relinquish it, or who can no longer care for it, and, in extreme emergencies, we have helped with financial assistance for medical issues or boarding and feeding. We are the only dog rescue group in Tuolumne County that offers this free service. Essentially, we give animals another chance for a better life." Trust.
