The small zoo near my house had all the animals evacuated in 30 minutes when the same fire I prepared for was a mile close. Yet, AR scammuary didn't care enough about their animals to do the same. Shortly afterwards I was put into the background process with a private investigator named Stephen Clifford who ran his own investigative firm. I turned in a bunch of documents as requested. About a month later I received a letter from Calaveras HR stating I was no longer being considered. Mr. Clifford did not even conduct any kind of background investigation. He contacted a few references and that was it. I never even fingerprinted for their department yet a complete background was completed. What a shady investigative firm, I believe the Chief hired his personal friend to do the investigative work. Very unprofessional and totally wasted my time. I would not recommend anyone to apply for work in Calaveras county.

I researched breeders through the American Kennel Club's website and emailed several to inquire about their ethics, breeding practices, and past litters. When I began corresponding with Joshua, I knew right away that he was the breeder I wanted to work with. His dogs are his pets, not moneymakers. His puppies are not a primary source of income for his family, but a celebration of the Pomeranian breed. I traveled from NYC to Florida (where he was previously located) in order to purchase one of his puppies; that's how much I preferred his practices to the several breeders who live in my area. I brought my puppy, Turkey, home in June of 2019. Because I lived so far away, I was not able to meet her prior to picking her up. Roughly five weeks elapsed between me paying her deposit and when she was ready to come home, and Joshua supplied me with pictures, videos, and commentary nearly every day. I was also able to check his Instagram stories to watch her play with her littermate and Joshua's other dogs--he has a very active social media presence. When the time finally came for me to pick Turkey up, Joshua's home was absolutely spotless (no easy task when you have 9+ Pomeranians) and he and his partner were so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He provided me with her AKC paperwork, veterinary and vaccination records, and even a tube of flea and tick prevention, all in a little folder with pictures of her puppyhood! Upon our return to NYC, I had Turkey checked out by my own vet who found her to be in perfect health. In the four months that I've had Turkey, she has brought me so much joy. She is intelligent, happy, healthy, and so freaking adorable! She loves every creature she meets, from rambunctious toddlers to enormous pit bulls. Joshua and I are in regular contact about her progress and it's clear that he cares about his puppies for long after they've left his care. I've passed along his information to several people in my neighborhood who fawn over Turkey, and would recommend him to anyone.
