This was the sweetest staff I've ever dealt with. Not expensive. And they squeezed us in. My dog has an infected abscess that they removed SAME DAY, and put drain tubes in for a few days and worked around my schedule when it was time to remove them. Very open and upfront. Very affordable!! Very happy !! read more

Thank God for Calaveras Veterinary Clinic. A little over a week ago, my 9 year old Chihuahua, Lulu, was vomiting. On a Thursday morning, she kept trying to eat grass and vomited 4 times. Her tail was tucked under, she was lethargic, and just not her normal happy self. She is usually right by my side, but this day, she snuggling so close to me that I could barely move my arms. Unfortunately, our regular vet was not able to see her. They gave me a few numbers to call but after doing some research and reading reviews, I decided to just make my own calls. I called Calaveras Veterinary Clinic and they said that I could bring her at noon. Because they were working her in, I may have to wait. I was totally fine with that. I had already made about 4 or 5 calls. I didn't have to wait long, the vet techs were both very kind and compassionate. Lulu had a fever and was dehydrated. They gave Lulu some fluids, medication to settle her stomach, and an antibiotic. They also drew some blood and recommended some food for dogs with digestive problems. I purchased the food and took her home. That night, she wouldn't even eat the new canned dog food that I purchased. I REALLY knew then that she wasn't feeling well. She hadn't eaten in two days and she is super food obsessed! By the next morning, she was a little more peppy and gobbled up her new dog food. Our other dog wanted some also. It looks like stew for humans. Over the next few days, she slowly got back to herself. On Monday, the vet called me and told me that her white blood cells were high and that she had pancreatitis. She informed me that this is not uncommon in little dogs. We will be very careful with what we feed her. We RARELY give her table scraps and when we do, it's meat mixed in with her dry dog food. She eats everything. She loves fruit, veggies, just everything. When I adopted her from the SPCA, in 2016, she was 2 years old, not leash, trained, not potty, trained, and had a litter of two boys while she was there. I can't help, but think that she was living in the backyard with other Chihuahuas and not eating enough. Now all she wants to do is eat. That is why we don't feed her excessively. She's very tiny and I don't want her to be fat and unhealthy. When I spoke to Dr. Simco on the phone, she couldn't be more kind and explained everything to me, along with answering my questions. The antibiotic had helped a great deal. She also offered that if Lulu's wasn't continuing to improve, there was another antibiotic that may work better. Lulu is now back to her crazy self and I am elated. I truly thought I was going to lose her. She will stay on this special, low, fat food, which I purchased at the vets office. I did look on Amazon, but it is way more expensive. I can't thank Dr. Simco and her staff enough for saving my little Lulu girl. She's part of my family and very important in my life. read more

While I do not doubt the ability and passion this/these vets,I found some of their policies problematic. Only game in town here (for me at least) so...may be risking refusal of service by my honest review. Was not allowed to be with my animal (cat) for her routine shots, nail trimming, and general welfare check. I get it...COVID protocols were in place (3 years ago),but still?? Honestly I had some pertinent questions regarding my cat`s continued health (14+ years) as a generic animal, etc. Note: This clinic is closed from 1200 to 1400 for lunch. That said,I am happy with the care provided my cat (Alley),but feel that some of their policies are not in our (patients) best interest. My son recommended Dr.Simko I have A 15y.o Chihuahua who was dying the past Two days ... Terrible too watch & hear is pain. My regular Vet couldn't "fit me on " ??? She saw us & performed the euthanasia procedure with just just the Ed " Primer" shot... he died peacefully in 20 minutes. No IV or second shot needed. Dr.Simko is a very professional & compassionate Human Being . I'm a patient from this point forward. I highly recommend Dr.Simko and her as staff. read more

Wonderful vet. Owner took a few moments to speak with me. Not all do. Affordable and professional.

Pet owner BEWARE! This clinic used to be owned by an incompetent, burned out Dr, and now you must stand outside in a muddy area whilst they conduct business through a slide open window. You're not allowed in the clinic, just hand over your pet and pay first before we do anything! I needed my beautiful little friend of 16 years put down and they refused service because I walked over from my home and didn't have my purse. I told them I couldn't comfortably carry her and my large purse that I would pay when I returned to pick her up and was refused service. This place is not run like any vet clinic I have ever been too. No meeting with the Dr. or even allowed in the locked building. Stay away unless you like being charged BEFORE the service is rendered. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I took my cat here today due to my vet in town not being able to see her until Monday and stating through her receptionist that I would probably need to take her to a specialist since when she treated her for an "eye infection" and prescribed her antibiotic ointment which didn't clear up...In addition to her eye problem, she now had something growing in one of her nostrils that smelled horrific. When I called and spoke to the receptionist here this morning, she was really concerned and put me on hold for a brief moment and came back asking if I could bring my cat in at noon....I jumped on it. I was greeted upon arrival and my cat was immediately taken in for observation. The assistant came out about 25 min in and asked if I could come in and talk to the vet. Turns out my cat has more issues than what I was told from my in town vet and was prescribed a Z-pak...we also went over a treatment plan for my kitty since she has a lot of other issues. I'm happy that I finally know what's wrong with her and that she is now in good hands. This will be my vet now going forward even though it's a 20 min drive, worth it knowing my cats will be seen by someone who knows what she's doing and her and her staff clearly love animals. read more

This clinic saw my dog in April. I made an appointment ( Mon July 20th) for something unrelated to the April visit but it was obviously hopelessly overbooked and I had to leave before we got to be called despite a very lengthy wait. I then made an appointment at Angels Camp Veterinarian Clinic and was told by the much alarmed vet that he had an extremely enlarged heart and essentially heart failure. Despite his having a supposedly thorough physical exam at Calaveras Veterinarian Clinic, this heart malfunction went unnoticed. This is quite incredible. Obviously I would not use this clinic ever again! read more

Our two dogs passed away within 4 months of each other. Both on the weekend and at home. The weekend crew were the best. They gave us so much compassion and time to say our final good byes, which was really important cause one of the dogs belonged to my grandson who was 11 years old. Couldn't asked for a better experience with the grief we were going through. The Vet's are first class. hey always explain what is going on with your pet and what the best path to treat your pet will be. Thank you for being a great team! MAK in Copperopolis read more

No stars; I had to list one to post the review. This used to be a good practice when Dr. Black owned it. I recently called to ask for pricing for putting my 16 year old dog to rest. I have always used my family's account in the past and do not have my own stand-alone account (I do not want my charges accidentally being added to my family's account), I was told I could not be helped. I am horrified that I would call on the vet's office my family has trusted for decades for help with one of the the most horrifying and heartbreaking decisions I can imagine making (I've has this dog since she was a puppy). No stars. This used to be a family oriented and reliable Vetrinarian's office. Not anymore. read more

If you need to have your pet cross over don't go in on a Monday because the office is too busy to show any compassion. My family had to take our pet in and the office girl/woman was complaining on how busy she was. We were told we would have to take our pet home after he passed because she was to busy to call the crematory and make arrangements. She gave my sister the crematory's name but not their number. After my sister found the number and made the arrangements the girl/woman said she had contacted the crematory. All we asked for was a little compassion as we were grieving. Sorry our pet couldn't wait for a day she wasn't so busy to pass over. Shame on you. When it comes time for a new pet this place will definately NOT be the place we come for our new family member. read more
