I just had my 3rd water pump replaced all within 85k miles. I replace the timing belt and water pump at 60k miles. one pump lasted 48k miles the next lasted 37k miles. Water pumps should last 60k to 100k miles. Ken said they're breaking because parts are made in China. He knowingly puts sub-par parts in their customers cars. They are knowingly ripping me off and others I'm sure. They won't back up their work. I said this isn't right. They said too bad so sad. I've been ripped off again. Just called asking for a few quotes. I spoke with a woman claiming she's the manager who hung up on me. I called "hi how much do you charge for a diag check engine light on?" She replied "what type of car?" I responded, completely dumbfounded that the type of car would determine the diag as they were the 8th shop in the area I called asking the same thing, never getting that response "Does it matter?" She said rudely "yes" she didn't then explain to tell me why. So I had to ask "well why would that matter?" She argued with me back and forth about 2 or 3 times before she told me "after the year 2000 it's $190. Before 2000, it's $250." So after she gave me the quote, I said "OK, what about if I needed an oil change? What do you charge for regular standard oil and full synthetic?" She said "I dont give quotes over the phone. Thank yoooou" and hung up on me. I, again, was completely dumbfounded. I called her back and asked why she hung up on me. Her exact words were "because we don't give quotes over the phone! We've been here 30 f*cking years, same guys. Like, what do you want?!" She eventually rambled some BS how good they are then told me the quote I was asking for. If I could give them 0 stars I would. They rip you off and don't put the new parts you paid for because you can't easily see them. Make sure before you leave because you won't be able to bring it back for free. You will need to pay for another diagnostic even though they gave it back a day ago. Especially Lisa so watch out for her. I've spent more than $6,000 with them and my car won't even pass inspection. You are better off finding a mechanic on Craigslist. They took advantage of my mom too. Mechanics are from wish. They don't really know what they are doing. So make sure you see them put the new parts because they will rip you off any chance they get. You have been warned. My light came on a day later and she said I will have to take it to the dealership. I went to auto zone and they confirmed it's the same thing they said they fixed. What a @$&+×¥? bunch of ripoff artists. $3100 and after 4...yes, 4 (four) attempts to rebuild my trucks transmission its worse than it was than before I brought it in. No lie! They dont do any heavy jobs, they farm them out to clearly incompetent....people. I don't want to say mechanics because that would suggest they have mechanical ability which is clear THEY DONT! I am not done here. Im going Better Business Bureau on them and then to court. They didnt even tighten the transmission pan bolts.....wth!? Update: I took my truck to the Toyota dealership in my town. The tech wrote on the report.. "transmission appears to not have been removed from truck recently. transmission pan has been removed- signed Toyota Master Tech" The invoice from K&J'S charged me $1017.76 for "R&R trans to rebuild". It's challenging to find an auto repair shop that provides honest work at a fair price, and that's exactly what they are about at ken and johns. I have had work ranging from oil changes all the way to a full motor swap done with these guys and they have yet to disappoint me. Regardless of the work I have needed done on my vehicles, these guys have come through and taken care of me in a timely and professional manner. So one day I made a really bad decision and purchase an Isuzu SUV. Well one day the automatic transmission failed and overheated tanking the whole thing. I had my vehicle towed to this shop because they got a reference from a close friend that had his Older Jaguar repaired there before. After a diagnosis I was given two options. One to replace the unit and the other to rebuild. I asked them what I should do in their opinion and they recommended a rebuild so they could get a higher grossing repair order I'm sure. Well that $4,300 repair only lasted about a few days before the transmission started stuttering upon acceleration. It went back in and out of their shop and then sublet out to some other random shop who Ken and Johns must be in cahoots with to get as much money from the customer as they can for about a year. I kept getting two different answers form the actual transmission shop and the "service advisor" at Ken and Johns for a reason of so much failure, both shops kept pointing the finger at each other. On top of all that at one point while they had my vehicle they did an unauthorized repair without my knowledge and then tried to tell me upon pick up of the vehicle that I owed a couple hundred dollars (and someone had ran over a nail and my tire was so flat I had to immediately put air in it at the gas station next door they didn't even tell me or offer a repair) After I argued they said ok forget the bill because they knew BAR would be all over them for that. I didn't authorize anything it was supposed to still be under their "warranty". The customer service is horrible. If I had an old school car and couldn't find anyone in town to work on it then I might take that vehicle there. But anyone with a newer or new ish vehicle save yourself and do not go here and give them business they will take advantage of you. The employees are all rude as hell and talk down to you like you are stupid. Better off going to a dealership at least a high priced repair comes with real warranty and not a busted down rental car that doesn't even have working lights. Let my mistake give you knowledge to make an informed decision about this place. read more
