Dr. Bland performed surgery on my foot and took extra care and attention to make sure it was done correctly. I have been an orthopedic surgical technician for 25 years and Dr. Bland addressed my concerns about the type of approach and implants that would be used. It felt like anything that didn't fit…read morewith his "assembly-line" approach wasn't welcome--he said the head of my femur was broken off, and I needed surgery urgently but then sent me home for almost 2 weeks before admitting me; meantime, I was disabled/in constant pain. I only saw him personally for initial consult, at which he interrupted me and left room while I was asking questions--and then saw him for about 30 seconds while in preop just prior to surgery and again in postop for about 30 seconds immediately after. There was no other contact with him after surgery, although I was hospitalized. He did not appear for first postop office visit either, which they scheduled with his surgical assistant. At that visit, 6 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY, I was told he had found bacteria DURING surgery and they urgently wanted me to see Infectious Disease doctor now. No explanation as to why I wasn't told this at time of surgery, why referral to specialist wasn't made while I was in hospital, or why no mention of it whatsoever was in op report. (Or for that matter, why he did not see me himself to explain.) Furthermore, the antibiotic prescription given to me (finally) at 6 weeks after surgery had completely wrong RX instructions on the label--directions said "Take 4 by capsules by mouth 1 hour before procedure." I had to call office and ask how they actually intended for me to take the antibiotic--at 6 weeks postop. I gave him 2 stars instead of 1 star because I believe, despite all of the above, he did a good technical job on total hip replacement surgery, as I am in less pain and function appears good after PT/OT assistance.

The pain is excruciating it burns and have shooting pain when I try to bend or straighten up. First week my leg from foot to top of leg was swollen. I called the az Ortho office and they ordered cat scan on left leg and groin area and front hip. Dr worthington cancelled front hip cat scan. I got a front hip MRI which was what Dr worthington cancelled . The front hip MRI findings were left total hip anthroplasty with periprosthetic bone marrow edema in the ancetabulum. Findings related to stress reaction or loosening.Small joint effusion.Also tearing of hamstring and left trochanteric bursitis. Dr worthington said it was muscles and said he couldn't find anything wrong and basically blamed me for my health issues. Also I said I was was in pain and he lunged towards me without warning and aggressively jammed my knee towards my chin I slid down high chair. It also caused more pain in my lower back. He knew I had bulging discs and stenosis.

My mom also had many concerning complications such as congestive heart failure and diabetes. So surgery for her was a risk. I believe he is one of the few surgeons who will redo a knee someone else already did. He did an excellent job with a very complicated case in the end. He is extremely kind, patient, thorough, and a general good guy. His compassionate care and bedside manner in addition to his excellent surgical skills make him a doctor I would highly recommend.
