My friend saw the little sleds first. And I saw they were Lizzie Kate patterns which I love. And the pieces look small enough to compete while watching tv. So I bought a set of sleds, a couple of patterns and perforated paper. The ladies in the shop were so friendly. They help me look for what I needed. TEN STARS! I went into Kelsey's for the first time yesterday and I can't wait to go back again! Right on Main Street in Placerville by the Hardware Store. Easy to find and lots of parking lots and street parking. This is a store for Needle crafts: Embroidery, Needlepoint, Cross Stitch, Needle Felting, etc. As soon as I walked in the two ladies working greeted me with big smiles and introductions and offers to help! (This is so important to me) Made me feel welcomed right away. They helped me above and beyond to find what I needed, answer my questions, etc. AWESOME. They stock tons of patterns, several fabrics, and all the threads/floss you could desire! There is a sit and stitch open to anyone on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and I'm planning my trip to hang out. All the other customers were friendly also. It was super busy. I am new to embroidery and was excited to visit this shop. I walked in with my husband. The lady was so friendly!! She showed me all the different kind of threads they had and how some are used. I also asked about the different needles. She explained tapestry, chenille and embroidery needles to me! She was very patient. Needed to drive from San Jose to Tahoe City and decided to take the longer route so I could stop at Kelsey's. I am glad I did. Great selection of counted charts and threads. The employee working helped me pick out alternatives to one thread they did not have in stock and even offered lunch recommendations. It is so nice to have a local needlework store. Kelsey's has a good selection of cross-stitch books, and an excellent selection of threads, including Krenik blending filaments! Additionally, staff is always friendly, welcoming, and willing to answer questions or do special orders. You can also find other supplies and a good selection of fabrics which can be cut to size. As an added bonus, it's always a treat to see completed works displayed with pride throughout the store. I'm so grateful to have this resource in my community. read more

I'm from NYC but I visit family who live nearby the store once a year. Once I found them, it's my first stop after arrival. This is one of the friendliest and well stocked needlecraft stores I have been in. The staff are really friendly and truly looking to help their customers rather than just to sell them. Kelsey's is great! The store is open and clean, they have a great selection of products. I wanted something they were out of, they ordered it for me and let my mom pick it up for me (I don't live in the area anymore). They also have an interesting looking list of classes. I came in yesterday and was so pleased that I dragged a friend from Sacramento to Placerville to ostensibly check out downtown Placerville, but really to come see this store. The woman who greeted me was friendly and the store was well organized, neat, had bright light to see everything well, and was lovely with its showcase of completed patterns. My friend doesn't do needlework but saw many things he liked and wanted me to make for him! The store doesn't stock painted canvases which I am happy about, and instead focuses on needlepoint and cross-stitch designs (the designers I noticed were Laura J. Perin, The Prairie Schooler, both of which had extensive pattern options available!) They also carried a nice assortment of iron embroidery transfers. Along with the regular canvas and linen cloth options, I noticed there were an assortment of other items to stitch such as towels. There is a full selection of cotton stranded floss (Anchor and DMC) and both #5 & #8 pearle cotton, along with a limited number of #12 by DMC. There was also a lovely number of overdyed threads. Less silk and wool than the two other shops I've been to, but I also see fewer and fewer patterns calling for them. This is also an excellent spot for beads and other embellishments. There was a nice diversity of colors, sizes and styles. I would absolutely recommend this shop and like the other reviewers, agree that it is worth the drive to come out here. read more

I love Kelsey's Needle Crafts. I live in Southern California and make it a point of visiting their shop every time I am up in the area visiting a friend. They have a wonderful selection of counted cross stitch patterns as well as floss. All of the ladies are very friendly and helpful. If they are out of stock on something I need they order it and send it to me. I can call them any time and they are always willing to help me and order what I need. I wish we had access to a store as nice and friendly as Kelsey's is. They are terrific! read more

I was in the shop yesterday for the midnight on main street and estate sale event. The owner and ladies who work here are so helpful and they love what they do! I do not even do needlework, but I came away with a bag full of stuff, excited to work on it, with a promise to come back for a special temari class! This store is a true gem! read more

I live out of town and travel over an hour to get to this store. It is well worth the effort. I have only been to this shop on three occasions, but I have been impressed wiht the customer service each time. They have a wonderful selection of materials, but the customer service at this place is stellar. The staff go above and beyond to help you find what you need without pressuring you.
