Placerville News Company is part Hallmark shop, part stationary store, part gift shop…read more The back half makes it appear as if at one point they were linked to Hallmark but it gives a going out of business vibe and although the stationary section was quite nice, the lefthand side of the store had a bit of a smell. They were running a popcorn machine so I wonder if it was related. The service was pleasant, but the space seemed unfocused like it was trying to be a bit of everything and it gave cluttered. All in all, I don't see myself going back.

On Main Street in Placerville, CA, is an artist gallery. It's a co-op of local Gold Country…read moreartists. Their work is displayed for purchase in this gorgeous historic brick building. The works range from jewelry, glass, wood work, ceramics, photography, sculpture, and paintings. Surprisingly the original art work was not outlandishly priced. Plus they have small originals, prints in smaller frame sizes to postcard size that are more affordable priced. My favorite works were Jack Nissen's wood bowls and painters Carol Quinn, Barbie Smith, and Valerie Bye. To me, their art echoes the beauty of our local landscape. I easily connected with that. I bopped in when Michael and Natalie were staffing the shop. Micheal had a bright, enthusiastic attitude. He warmly greeted everyone that walked. He had a great rapport with customers. No snobby pretentiousness. Besides the art another work in the building. The building itself is a beaut. It too has a rich history going back to 1850. You can read about it on a poster near the front door.
