Dr. Jenny and her assistants were gentle, reassuring, and very thorough. It honestly felt like my daughter was the only patient being cared for. By the end of the visit she was loving all of the attention and didn't want to leave It was nice to be in an office where the staff interacted with my daughter, but they also focused on the importance of speaking to me directly and making sure I understood and was comfortable. Genius! I was able to relax which allowed me to help my daughter understand, participate, and cope. All of our options were explained in detail and I left feeling comfortable and confident about my 2 year old daughter's situation, and was able to make an informed decision. This was our first visit which was for an unfortunate tooth injury, but Dr. Jenny and her staff made the search for the perfect pediatric dentist for routine care a no-brainer! My experience with Austin Children's Dentistry was extremely disappointing…read more I initially visited for my daughter's dental treatment and was given a written treatment estimate of approximately $1,100. When I tried to schedule the appointment, I was told I had to pay 50% of the treatment cost upfront before they would even book the appointment. While I wasn't happy about that policy, I accepted it. The following week, I returned for my daughter's cavity treatment and was shocked to receive a new estimate of $1,800--about $700 more than the quote I had signed the previous week. When I questioned the difference and pointed out that I had already signed the earlier estimate, the staff eventually changed the bill back to the original amount. This experience left me feeling frustrated and concerned about the consistency and transparency of their billing practices. Patients should be able to trust that a written treatment estimate will be honored unless there is a clear explanation for any changes. Running a healthcare practice requires honesty, transparency, and ethical business practices. Unexpectedly increasing a treatment estimate by hundreds of dollars without explanation is unacceptable and undermines patient trust. I hope the practice reviews its billing procedures so that other families do not have a similar experience.

I love this dentist! I have been coming here for two years now and they are always so friendly but…read morethe best thing is that I trust them. Not once have they told me oh this and that is wrong with your teeth, we have to do this and that will cost blah blah blah. Plus they have a treasure chest and you get to pick a prize, yes, even as an adult!

I am writing this on Yelp because Yelp does not let companies pay them to have bad reviews…read moresuppressed. Yeah to Yelp. I think one should stay as far away from Carus Dental as possible. They offered services to me without telling me that it is not covered by my insurance and did not quote for me that it would cost extra. I have several thousand dollars' worth of what I believe to be unneeded services that I now have to pay for. I asked for a statement of the services they provided my family and the itemized statement I received is impossible to decipher without having a working knowledge of dental codes, so it's a whole lot of work for me to identify what I am being charged for. I think that Carus Dental's lack of transparency means something. In addition, I ask for a pre-certification for an additional crown that the practice was recommending. I asked, because on the first crown they did for me this year they told me that according to my insurance, I would pay $100. Not even close. They told me, again, that according to my insurance I would pay $100 for this new crown. I insisted I needed this pre-certified. They told me that pre-certifications take up to five weeks. So, I say okay, I can wait. Did they ever get the precertification for me? No. I believe that the tooth was not in need of a crown, at this time, and therefore insurance was not going to approve. OR, maybe, Carus Dental does not want to do business with someone they can no longer up-sale.

The rooms themselves have cute themes - there's a "beach room," a "safari room," etc. We also really love the dentist. He's very professional and incredibly calming with the little ones. It's a shame we can't use this place for our kids' regular dentist appointments because of their absolutely exorbitant pricing. A standard teeth cleaning with x-rays costs $386. A quick search on Yelp shows five other pediatric dentists within 5 miles of this one, so I called all of them and got a price quote on the same service - full cleaning with x-rays. One did not answer the phone, one quoted $293 per kid, one quoted $100 per kid for the 1st visit and $256 for each visit after that, and the other two both quoted $175 per kid. Destination Pediatric is wonderful; it is not twice as good as their competitors, so charging twice as much for their services is absolute insanity. I hope they change their pricing to be more competitive because we would love to return to them.
