4 of the 6 Foodie Flavors for their December promotion
Jason P.

Kelly's Cone Connection is the ice cream side of a building it shares with Glenwood Drive-In in Hamden. This review is based upon my recent visit to support my Food Blogger friends @thesidedishers who inspired a sundae there. It was this crazy combination based on Thanksgiving sides. I believe the components included corn casserole ice cream. Sweet potato casserole ice cream. Cranberry sauce. Whipped cream. And freeze dried green beans, for texture, and because it's Thanksgiving. LOL This was an exceptionally cool and creative seasonal Sundae. My favorite combination was the sweet corn ice cream with the sweet and acidic cranberry sauce. Will I ever order a sundae with green beans again? Probably not, but I can't rule it out. I've gotten to know Kelly a bit from my own food blogging. She's very nice and cares about the craft of making ice cream the right way. Cticecreamtour, who has an ice cream food truck featuring some of the best ice cream shops in CT has carried multiple Kelly's ice creams, and that's all I needed to know. 4.5 Stars

While in the area with friends, we stopped at Kelly's Cone Connection to try their ice cream bouquet that's been going viral lately! There were so many good flavors to choose from, and we were able to easily share it by putting in a big cup. The ice cream nachos were so good too!! Such a cute parlor, and the homemade ice cream was fantastic. We will definitely be back!

2 scoop "Good Stuff" sundae with hot fudge and almonds, 2 scoop Cherry Vanilla sundae with walnuts

Conveniently attached to Glenwood, this ice cream shop makes some pretty good stuff. Pardon the unintentional pun. Ambience was decent and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I got two 2-scoop sundaes. The first one I tried was Cherry Vanilla (with added walnuts). It was good, but the cherry flavor wasn't very prominent. It mostly tasted like vanilla ice cream with a small hint of cherry. The other sundae was "Good Stuff," which was chocolate peanut butter ice cream with chunks of Reese's peanut butter cups. This one was amazing. Rich, chocolatey with just the right amount of peanut butter flavor. I also added hot fudge and almonds to this one, which paired perfectly with it. Highly recommended. Overall, this is a great place, if you're eating at Glenwood, it pays to save room for desert.

I stopped in here with my friend last night and met the owner and she is just the nicest human being ever. The ice cream tastes fantastic, I tried the raspberry and it was incredible. Such a cute spot, I'll have to come back and try more of their specials.

Coffee float with Oreo Ice Cream and Chocolate Syrup

This coffee float was so good. It was made with Oreo ice cream and we added chocolate fudge. Indulgent and creamy. The perfect consistency

I have been going to Kelley's for most of my life. It has always been a really great spot for ice cream. It's attached to Glenwood Drive in which is part of the father daughter business. Makes some really creative flavors and they were one of the first round to have a really good dairy free option. They usually have multiple on hand so there's a little bit of something for everyone. We really like Kelleigh. She's very warm and welcoming. The ambience is that of a small ice cream parlor. We ran over there the other day once we saw that we could get a ice cream bouquet! It did not disappoint. We featured it on our blog (@thesidedishers) we loved it so much!

Strawberry flavor burst soft serve - small Kids stated the flavor burst was "just vanilla"
Laura G.

I love that they advertise their specials on social media. They have a variety to choose from - hard scoops, soft serve with a flavorburst option, ice cream sandwiches, and plenty of fun toppings if you're going for a sundae. My kids had flavorbursts - strawberry, black cherry, and cotton candy. They said they tasted like plain vanilla, but still enjoyed them. (I have found this to be true times that I've tried this variety of soft serve elsewhere). I went with Cookie Monster and the Good Stuff. Both hard ice creams were disappointing. Not much flavor and the mix-ins were sparse. The Good Stuff is supposed to have pb and Reese cups, but I felt it was more of just the pb cup edges that were in the ice cream. Oh well, it was a good deal and we enjoyed the sweet treat and the friendly staff. Be sure to check out Yelp for a deal. I saw $4 waffle cone, which is a great price, you get two scoops of your choice. FYI - October is $2.75 soft serve month.

Another wonderful bit of my childhood that I get to share with my kids. I came here with my family, loved seeing Kelly then and I saw her today. The ice cream is delicious, it just feels wholesome and I'm so glad it still exists.

Starting off I got to say I love Kellys in general from the ambiance, food and lastly the service. The workers are hard working and will give you recommendations on there best ice creams. I give the most appreciation to the workers Julian and Riley. Check them out it's perfect for an afternoon with family and friends!

Kellys' has become our go to ice cream shop. They have so many delicious options: homemade ice cream, frozen yogurt, pies/cakes, pup cups, milkshakes, ice cream cookie sandwiches etc. We always get a treat to eat immediately plus a take home treat or two like a to go pint or pack of 6 homemade chocolate chip cookie sandwiches (check the freezer case for these!). The "flavorburst" is also a unique and photogenic way to enjoy the soft serve. Also helpful that they are open 12-9pm 7 days a week and staff are friendly and efficient. Each month offers a special such as $4.50 soft serve cups of waffle cones so be sure to check social media.

2/23/22 Double scoop of toasted almond ice cream w/rainbow sprinkles. The ice cream is excellent quality.

2/23/22 Kelly's Kone offers the seemingly odd combination of soups and/or ice cream in the same building that houses the Glenwood Drive-In. Weird, but it works for some reason. I usually place my dinner order on the Glenwood side, then while waiting for it to be prepared, I'll saunter on over to Kelly's Kone to get a cup of whatever soups they're offering that day. Today, while having lunch with my sister, we decided to save room for an ice cream from Kelly's Kone. So right after finishing lunch at the Glenwood, we walked the 10-15 paces through the open mutual wall the two businesses share, to sample the ice cream for the first time. A good decision! We both selected a cup with two scoops of toasted almond. I d have ordered mine one scoop each of that & chocolate chip ice cream, but they don't offer it. What's THAT about??? Anyway, sis and I agreed that the ice cream was really excellent quality and creamy, not too hard or soft, and a nice amount of toasted almond flavor. One star fell off the truck when the server said they don't have chocolate chip ice cream......my favorite flavor. Other than that, I'll not hesitate to try another flavor another time!

Excellent homemade ice cream, sundaes, shakes and cakes. One of things I miss most is their Pumpkin Ice Cream Pie around Thanksgiving time.

Ray and Mike's is a popular takeout Deli and Market in Hamden. They're perhaps best known in Foodie…read moreCircles for their cheesesteaks and other hot sandwiches. There's good reason for that. The steak is high quality and up there with the best places out there. It has a coarser texture. The melted cheese is well integrated with the steak. I'd like to see the grilled veggies better integrated into the mix though. They tend to be a bit separate on the sandwich. Also, the Chicken Chipotle Steak is even better than the Cheesesteak. It's so flavorful. I've had a bunch of things I like from Ray and Mike's. They're open early and have a good breakfast sandwich made to order. Their house roast turkey is good and has become a favorite of my wife. The one thing I think could be improved is the Italian combo sandwich and/or cold grinder construction in general. The meat could be cut a bit thinner on the Italian Combo, but it's quality meat. And they could construct cold grinders in a way I'd enjoy more. The grinder roll is cut open on one side and closed on the other. They first add all the veggie toppings and condiments and then they put folded over deli toppings on top of that. The result is that it's difficult to take bites that have both meat and toppings. If they added the meat first and wrapped it around the inside of the bread, and then added the veggies, you'd get a better distribution of the ingredients when you bite. There's no inside seating, but there are a few tables outside. The deli is really designed to be functional. So the decor isn't a selling point. Service has always been friendly. I recommend Ray and Mike's, but I'd recommend going with the cheesesteaks or Chipotle Chicken Steak or another hot sandwich, over something like the Italian Combo grinder. 4.25 Stars

Everyone that had the Pizza thought it was a very good. Side of french fries was very large. Two kids devoured it by the time I got to take a picture. My mother had this spaghetti and meatballs and liked it a lot. She enjoyed the meatballs himself as they had a lot of flavor and she could see the ingredients inside such as parsley and garlic. My sister enjoyed her angel hair and Alfredo sauce as well as they both enjoyed the soup. Super salad comes with your dinner and as you can see, the soup was very large. My husband had a house salad, and he added blackened shrimp, which came with a good amount of shrimp, avocado, raisins, and almonds. He liked the salad very much. I ordered a special the gnocchi with marinara sauce, and burrata . Overall, the sauce was very good, but I disliked how much sauce was given. For me, I felt like it was too much sauce and my pasta was swimming in it. I would request less sauce the next time I go. Overall, the price was not bad at all. We all enjoy our meal and every single one of us brought food home. Oh, on the sidenote, a good amount of their soups are made vegetarian. This is difficult to find so if you are looking for a vegetarian soup, they told me the escarole and beans, pasta, , pasta fagiol and the lentils were all done.

I have heard incredible things about the vibe and experience of actually going to their shop from many close friends, all fellow foodies, some which are even friends with the Caseus team. With their raves and my existing love for their grilled cheeses off the truck, my expectations could not have higher. I even held off my visit for just the right time so that I was in a good mindset to take it all in properly! Somehow, I'd say my expectations were surpassed. Upon entering the shop, I was immediately warmly welcomed. Very comfortable vibe. They have lots of provisions (justifying their name), including sauces, condiments, and more. They have a refrigerated case with house made desserts and a variety of cheeses, as well as an additional case of more specialty cheeses. Their menu has many brilliant grilled cheese creations, the option to build your own or customize any of theirs with additional toppings, and a rotating special. I have been thinking hard about what I would order when I finally made it in, and I still struggled. Luckily, the person helping me was super passionate, sweet and happy to help and offer information. They described their top picks, one of which was one of my top contenders, so that was the winner. The Berries & Creme. It is their classic grilled cheese with the addition of Brie and house made blueberry compote. I believe all of their grilled cheeses have the classic (their house blend of cheeses) as the base. I am not a Brie fan, at all. I wanted to give it a shot, and knew that there was not a better place to do that than Caseus. I can't rave enough about the person helping me. They assured me that it was balanced and not overpowering how they incorporated it in, so I was excited to give it a go. No experience with Caseus would be complete without their tomato soup. The 8 ounce cup is the perfect accompaniment, and just the right amount to both dip and have a little extra to savor on its own. I browsed the shops pile they prepared my sandwich, and couldn't resist a bread pudding. They had 2 kinds today: sticky toffee and bananas foster. I was leaning bananas foster, but asked their preference anyway. Bananas foster it was! When my grilled cheese was perfectly melty and ready, I took my lunch to one of the tables outside to enjoy it fresh. There isn't any indoor seating, which I appreciate actually. Much better flow to the space that way. The grilled cheese was probably the best one yet. It may actually be the first time I haven't built my own. This was absolutely delicious. Perfect execution. Lots of extra cheese crispies around the edges. Plenty of butter without being excessively greasy, a major turnoff for me. I can't tolerate the mouthfeel either, so I was extremely impressed with how they prepared it. This is where you want to whip out the term "sandwich artist", because they are just that. They put so much care, thought and love into what they do and each and every sandwich they serve. Every customer and their sandwich is just as important as the next. The sandwiches are accompanied by grainy mustard and a couple of cornichons. I even get excited for that part! I use every bit of that cup. The tomato soup is perfectly creamy without being too rich or heavy. They let the deep, fresh tomato flavor shine. They cook it just enough so that it's a deep developed flavor but still bright. There is not better tomato or grilled cheese. I devoured it all, and still, upon arriving to my car, cracked open the bread pudding for a taste. I loved that it was extremely moist without being wet or overly saucy/sugary/caramely. It didn't read super heavy, while still being satisfyingly sweet. Plenty of nuts and banana. Soft, well saturated bread. It was perfect as far as I'm concerned. Really impressed. Caseus is all about perfect execution, or at least as close to perfect as it can possibly get. They are masters of their craft, and you just feel so much joy from both your interactions. With them and their incredibly tasty food. I am so thrilled I made it to the shop, and know that now I won't be able to stay away. Definitely check them out as soon as possible if you have not. They are an incredibly special staple of the CT food scene.
