The moment I mentioned the poor results from my last visit, Annie became unusually rough. The hair wash was rushed, with water gushing into my ears, and the blow dry felt more like torture--so forceful that it seemed intentional, almost damaging her dryer in the process. My scalp hurt, my ear was burned, and she never even offered an apology. The way the service was delivered felt harsh and deliberate, and I left with both physical pain and deep disappointment. So finding a stylist who is talented, knowledgeable, and works to understand how you feel about your hair ( Energized ? Excited? Ambivalent? ) matters. Cassie is that rare ( in my experience) combination. My hair is pretty easy re: needs. It's not dry, it's not dull, it doesn't really have issues. That's not to say I don't want to make it look it's best though. I get a cut and balayage. The colors are gorgeous and might just be the best I have ever had. The cut is super good and the length and style is spot on to what you say you want. My hair grows relatively fast, so I appreciate a cut that can keep up and grow out well. Aside from her talent and skill, her salon has a fresh and fun vibe and couldn't be cuter. I leave loving how my hair looks and feeling awesome.

The owner contacted me and actually told me that she didn't think "anyone was really at fault" and characterized the situation as "the timing didn't line up well." Excuse me -- what exactly was MY fault? I arrived early. I was sitting there waiting for the appointment THEY scheduled. The stylist was 25 minutes late. There was no mutual "timing" problem and absolutely no reason to insert me into a discussion of fault. Even more audacious was suggesting that my arriving early somehow had relevance to the situation. Had I arrived at exactly my scheduled appointment time, the stylist still would have been 25 minutes late. Instead of simply taking accountability and saying, "Our stylist was late and we apologize for wasting your time," the owner attempted to repackage it as some unfortunate, neutral circumstance in which nobody was responsible. That was incredibly condescending. Being 25 minutes behind is bad enough. Trying to minimize it afterward and manufacture some bizarre suggestion of shared fault with the client who SHOWED UP is what made the experience unacceptable. My time is not less valuable because I'm the client. I was there. The stylist wasn't. That isn't a "timing issue." That IS the issue. UPDATE: The owner's response actually confirms the issue. My appointment was at 4:00, and at approximately 4:25 the stylist was still not ready for my appointment, which is why I left. I never expected to be seen during the 45 minutes I arrived early, so my arrival time before my scheduled appointment is IRRELEVANT. The issue is simply that 25 minutes AFTER my "scheduled" appointment time, my appointment still had not begun. Rather than simply taking responsibility for that delay, the response continues to emphasize that I "chose" to arrive early and "chose" to leave. Yes--I chose to leave after waiting 25 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment time while the stylist was still unavailable.
