Edit after washing and hair mask: Lots of breakage. Just combing my fingers through I get clumps; strands super weak and brittle. I was very hopeful as the color I wanted was achieved, but it's so damaged. I had read other reviews here of coloring not damaging hair so I am very disappointed. This was my first time seeing Andy and I'm very happy with the results. I had to find a new stylist because the person I had been going to for 12+ years is no longer available. After doing my research I found Andy, who knows how to work well with thick Asian hair like mine. I asked him for a light ash brown color and he was masterful. He cut my hair first to have some textured layers and I could already see an improvement. Then came the color - I have never had so much foil on my head, but that is how much attention to detail he has! It took a full four hours from start to finish and that's because he takes his time to make sure everything is right. The color came out great, bonus is that it blends out the gray hairs that I've started getting. His price point definitely makes this an investment but it's well worth it. With the foilayage you are basically getting two full techniques done in the same appointment. He's an artist and he knows what he's doing. A word of warning to all Asian women who have ever been curious about going from dark natural hair to any form of blonde balayage - Andy will transform your hair in ways that will make it hard to tear your eyes away from the mirror. I was not prepared to see myself in this new light and I realize that I had gone through what people call a "total glow up". Andy was so communicative and attentive throughout my 3 hour appointment. We had some nice chit chat while he hand painted my strands and put them up in foil - it was an intense process! I refused to sneak peeks at the mirror of the coloring in progress until he started finishing with the comb and blowdry, and by then all I could say was Wow. I had to reschedule my appointment the day before due to illness, and the stylist immediately asked for a deposit, which I was prepared to pay as I had done before. However, before I could even respond, he kept sending multiple messages about it, which made me uncomfortable. In the end, I decided not to reschedule, and instead of handling the situation professionally, he blocked me without a word of apology. For reference, I have half-Asian, 1a hair. I've met so many stylists who have caked on product and it ends up crunchy or flat. Andy is not one of these. The balayage ombré in ash blond worked out perfectly. Andy added a light curl with a curling iron right afterwards. He offered hair spray, but I declined, opting for hair oil instead. In terms of texture between the before (virgin hair with greying) and after, it feels like my treated afterwards has slightly more lift and volume. There's a slight scent of ammonia if you hold the strands right up close to your nose, but not when it's down and normal. It feels just as strong as before, which is a huge relief since thin Asian hair can get brittle easily with the wrong treatment. I'm glad I got to try this out with Andy. read more

Haven't gotten my hair colored in over 3 years and I'm also super picky and indecisive when it comes to my hair. I told Andy I wanted something that will help blend my gray hair. He was very knowledgeable about what color would look good with my darker complexion. My hair is very thick, but he took his time and was very patient. We chatted and Andy was fun to talk to, but I also felt comfortable when we were quiet as well. My appointment was at 12pm and we got started right away. He gave me a cut to add some layers, bleached, toned, styled, took photos, and I was out of there by 5pm. In terms of price, it's probably the most I've ever spent on my hair, but considering how much product it took to do my whole head, the time and attention to detail, and technique used, I would say it was worth the final look. I also wanted something low maintenance so Andy made it so the color would look great as it grew out and should last about 8 months.
