I've only tasted one type of cookie from Kelly's Kookies: Shortbread. And since I live in northwestern Washington state, I got them in a small pack from my local upscale grocery store. Oh! My! Goodness! These are the best non-homemade shortbread cookies I've ever found! When I make shortbread at home, I use a recipe I got from Martha Stewart, and I use that as my benchmark for perfect shortbread. But I've never found a decent one that's commercially made -- until now. After I took my first bite, I immediately had to look at the ingredient list, and was delighted to find only 3 ingredients: flour, butter, and sugar. That's it! That's the same ingredient list for my homemade shortbread (except that I use a little salt). This is exactly what I've been looking for: an honest, "real food" cookie that tastes homemade. (I know it's not "whole food" because the flour and sugar are refined, but when I say "real food" I'm talking about ingredients that would be common staples in a typical home pantry or larder or fridge, especially in a home of 100 years ago.) This is a nice cookie shop; but it is not a place I would visit often when I am craving cookies. After looking at pictures in Yelp and saw how delicious they looked I wanted to try one of every flavor. I bought and tasted at least 10 individual cookies and not in a box set as they were just for snacking. As I tasted each cookie I could tastes the batter more than the actual flavors of the cookies. I felt the batter part was thick and it did not even out with the little flavor as in the icing or the fruit coating it was dipped in. These cookies are on the thicker side and not considered thin and crispy it has a similar texture to fig newtons where it could get chalky at times. I was full with one cookie and there are plenty of leftover in one box or bag depending which ones you buy as they come in 6 pieces per package. They do run out of cookies especially popular flavors I suggest visiting right when they open. We went at noon and they already sold out 3 flavors which I thought we came in early enough. A main reason I would only come here is when I need to give a unique gift or I am hosting a party. When you need a nice and presentable cookie box I highly recommend this place as they can customize it for you where you have the option to pick the boxes and ribbons suited for your event. The boxes comes in different sizes and you can set it up anyway you want you just tell them how you prefer it to look. The cookies are wrapped nicely in clear plastic bags or in little boxes with a clear see through film wrap so you can see the cookies inside. After trying out many of their cookies, I personally would not serve these at a children's party as some flavors might not appeal to their tastebuds. As each cookie is big the kids might not finish the whole cookie and it will go to waste - I would stick to Oreo's and Chips Ahoy. read more

05.13.17 Stopped in to see the yumminess and walked out with cookies galore for O's teachers. We came in right at opening and ordered some hand-dipped cookies as well as putting together a yummy package of cookies for our Mom for Mother's Day. It was perfect because if you didn't know, shortbread cookies don't contain eggs, which our Mom is allergic to. So we were able to get a variety of shortbread cookies for her to enjoy. They were short staffed because there was a Car Show going on that they had their employees at. But we received excellent service from the one girl that was there. She was helpful, friendly and patient with us despite being by herself and holding down the fort. We're glad we came early on the day before Mother's Day. I will definitely be back to get more goodies for family and friends. I did buy a package of Cafe Moments which are espresso bean cookies in powdered sugar. Think Mexican Wedding cookies. We did the trifecta when we were in Stanton: We hit Gomen, Neveria la Flor de Mexico and Kelley's Kookies. All three are located in the same strip mall on Katella near Knott in Stanton. BTW, I had no idea these three places were in the same strip mall literally two doors down from one another. Kelley's specializes in shortbread cookies, and has several varieties like chocolate chip, macadamia choco chip, pecan, lemon, and chocolate dipped. I chose the pecan and the Chilipina chose the macadamia choc chip ($5.50/small bag). The pecan cookies were excellent. They were not dry like many store bought versions, and there was a lot of pecans. The only downside was the price (80 cents per cookie!!!): 4 Stars. The Chilipina really liked her macadamia choco chip cookies. However, they were not as good as the Hawaiian versions. They were drier compared to most of the brands in Hawai'i: 4 Stars. The ambiance and service are really good. Its cookies galore, and the staff is very nice: Both 4 Stars. I would come back if I were in the area, but the cookies are pretty pricey. But if you hit Gomen, drop by Kelley's and grab some cookies, and also go to Neveria two doors down and get some ice cream or a paleta (popsicle). read more

Came here last week because we wanted to try Crumbl and they were closed. Good thing though because we got here instead bought 4 large cookies of different varieties and they were so delicious you could taste the quality ingredients we've been missing out. Popped in when we were grabbing Ramen at Gomen a couple doors down. We'd seen the store before, but the sign outside advertising "Free dipped shortbread cookie with Yelp check-in" called to us like a Siren song... When you walk in you see the counter where they have a cookie dipping station. If you opt for the plain shortbread cookies, you can have them dipped in milk, dark, or white chocolate and topped with almonds, sea salt, toffee, coconut, or sprinkles. They also offer many wrapped cookies - chocolate chip macadamia nut, chocolate chip oatmeal, oatmeal raisin, lemon, peanut butter, and sandwich shortbread with guava cranberry or blueberry lemon fillings. Oh my stars these are good cookies! They are all pretty crisp and reminded me of the cookies that are popular in Hawaii. And when I asked, the owner/founder is actually from Hawaii. We tried the choc chip macadamia, choc chip oatmeal, peanut butter, guava cranberry sandwich, and a variety of dipped shortbread. All were excellent. The shortbread is one of the best I've had - so buttery and crisp. We got one dipped cookie for free in addition to the three we purchased, so we had an array of different chocolates and toppings. Choc chip mac was solid, choc chip oatmeal had an excellent crunch as there was crisped rice cereal inside as well, the peanut butter was nice and crisp, but the guava cranberry sandwich were my absolute favorite! The shortbread was softer than the dipped shortbread cookies, and paired so well with the sweet/slightly tart filling. I'm a sucker for packaging and the filled cookies come in a minimalist white box (4 pieces per box) - I will be getting these as gifts for ppl in the future. Not on the inexpensive side, but IMHO well worth the price. I will be back soon to try their other items and to get more of those filled cookies and the choc chip oatmeal. I first tried Kelley's Kookies when a recessed lighting company sent them to me! I'm not the biggest fan of shortbread cookies, but after I bite I was hooked! I looked up the prices online and it's pretty expensive, especially with shipping, whew! I never thought to look up locations & randomly saw a Groupon for the brea mall location. Though Kelley's Kookies is a SoCal business, I first discovered them in NorCal at the Aloha Fest in San Mateo when I met up with tha fam bam. Wonder Twin & I picked up 6 boxes/bags for $42. I've yet to try the Melting Moments. Not sure if the pink shortbread in Neapolitan Delight is supposed to be strawberry because the flavor is so slight. The shortbread cookie sandwiches with jam in the middle, Guava Dreams & Blueberry Dreams, are incredible; I'd repurchase in a heartbeat. Wow! Kelley's Kookies is a hidden gem. I have been craving cookies for a while now (6 months pregnant) and I also have gestational diabetes. I can NOT cook or bake so I didn't want to burden my husband with making specific types of cookies only I could eat. What's great about Kelley's is that the cookies are crisp and have that great buttery taste, but not oily or greasy. Although some have sugar or icing the cookies themselves are sweet but not super sweet. There are plenty of choices depending on what flavors of cookie one likes. The basic Sugar Cookie and the Macadamia Icebox stand out as my favorites. I had seen people buying $100 dollars' worth of cookies and was like WOW! I thought to myself, "Why not?" So, I bought 4 bags as well! They had many different cookie options and the set up was very organized. A little history about Kelly's Kookies: The founder Marcella Onishi named her cookies after her daughter "Kelley" and started with making cookies in her kitchen until the demand became more then her kitchen could handle so we opened up a store in Cypress, CA in 1993 and it's been booming ever since. Now Marcella, if only we can get you to open up a store in Northern CA I have to admit that once I went home and tried these cookies, it was hard for me to stop eating them! They just melt right in your mouth and some of the choice that I picked taste really good with hot chocolate or coffee in the morning! My choices that day were: -Guava Dreams (A must try, this was my favorite) -Chocolate-Dipped Macadamia Shortbread -Chocolate Chip Macadamia -Pecan shortbread I truly enjoyed all of them! Such a great little store tucked away in a little plaza you can easily miss. If it helps, it's in the same plaza as Gomen and Neveria la Flor de Mexico. From the outside it doesn't look like much and after entering the store, it still doesn't look like much. They say not to judge a book by its cover so wait until you've tasted these tiny pieces of crispty, crunchity goodness. I'm not even speaking English anymore because English isn't evolved enough to describe what happens in your mouth when consuming these "cookies!" If you think you're a cookie connoisseur, you aren't until you've tried these... So try them! Especially if you like the crunchy type of cookie a la "Famous Amos" you'll really enjoy these. We stumbled into Kelley's by accident as Neveria La Flor was our original destination - but it seemed as the universe was telling us that we needed more sugar in our lives, so we went in here before we got ice cream. Not only does the store smell delicious, I loved that they offered a variety of samples for you to taste before making a decision. There's a lot of choices, and they all sounded spectacular, but we ended up with the Honey Lavender Shortbread which were nice and fragrant without being overpowering, the Lemon Shortbread that were covered in powdered sugar and concealed a puckering shot of lemon flavor and the Sugar Cookies that were light, buttery, crispy and airy. Definitely satisfied with all our purchases, and unfortunately they didn't last long... All cookies are baked and then packaged, so there isn't a way to mix and match. I felt the prices were reasonable based on the high quality of products they used for their sweets, and if you're dieting, you may want to steer clear as it tasted like real butter was used in everything. That didn't deter me from eating a whole package on my own. The staff were not only friendly, but really helpful. Make sure to check-in on the Yelp app as you score a free dipped shortbread of your choice that includes a topping. That was a treat that we didn't expect, but definitely loved our chocolately creation before heading to the car. A little bit of Hawaii, a little bit of California and a lot of butter make these cookies melt in your mouth! There's so much shortbread here that if there was a fire, the store would melt into a puddle of butter. What I've tried: Lemon Shortbread - Shortbread dipped and rolled and dipped and rolled in powdered lemon sugar. When biting into one, don't inhale too hard as you'll end up with powdered sugar in your nose. This is one of my all time favorites! Shortbread - Buttery with a lightness that breaks gently into your mouth upon first bite. Very good for a "regular" shortbread. Coconut Delight - Decadence. Roasted Coconut and Key Lime in the shortbread, half-dipped in a creamy white chocolate. The sweetness of the white chocolate is the perfect counter to the tang of the lime. I love coconut... I don't even have words to explain how much this cookie blew my mind. Chocolate Chip with Walnuts - When I first looked at the bag, I thought, "Can I really enjoy such a tiny cookie?" They are addicting. Mini crispy cookies full of chocolate and nuts. My co-workers are so happy when I bring these in. Chocolate Chip with Macadamia Nuts - The same greatness at the chocolate chip and walnuts but with macadamia nuts instead. These are a little pricier and come with a a few less cookies, so if you're price conscious and want more bang for the buck, just get the regular with nuts. If you're a diehard macadamia nut person, nothing I can do to stop you. Macadamia Ice Box - This is a very thin cut and crispy shortbread that's not as buttery as the regular shortbreads. It's okay, but it doesn't stand out to me, as it doesn't have as much omph as any of the regular shortbreads. Peanut Butter - Compact, medium thickness, crunchy. I do get these sometimes, but I like my peanut butter cookies with a little give in the middle and wish these were just a bit sweeter. Some of the ones I haven't tried yet... Orange dipped Shortbread, Neapolitan Shortbread (1/2 regular, 1/2 strawberry shortbread dipped in chocolate), Melting Moments (I think this is one of her all time best sellers). You can find Kelley's Kookies in Mitsuwa and some other Japanese markets but for the full selection of flavored shortbreads you need to go to Kelley's main store in Stanton. If they don't have the cookie you're looking for, ask them, as they often have more of what you want in the back. I'm addicted! One warning... the cookies are a bit pricey. The small bags (there's only one size) are about $5-$5.50 each. It's hard to leave here without spending $20. If you need to get foodie gifts for a bunch of people, this is a great alternative to a typical box of candy or bag of coffee. read more

Tried going to Gomen for lunch but of course like always they were closed regardless of what their posted hours said. Pissed off I was grumbling back to my car when Donna spotted this cookie place I always forget about. Sure... why not. It's a bit of a strange set up. I guess you're supposed to shop off the rack in the center of the store and all the other stuff in there is just displays showing you what comes in each gift box... *shrug*... don't know, but it's kind of confusing and the employees acted like we were invisible. These tiny sacks of cookies are expensive. Everything is pretty much $5 bucks. We bought some "melting moments", "blueberry dreams", and "chocolate-dipped macadamia shortbread". The blueberry dreams were so good, my favorite of the three. It's two layers of soft shortbread with a layer of blueberry lemon filling. The blueberry flavor was so good, you can tell these were very fresh. The melting moments are ball shaped walnut cookies covered with powdered sugar. They literally melt in your mouth as the name implies. The macadamia shortbread were my least favorite but they were Donna's favorite. You could really taste the macadamia nuts in every bite but something about the texture didn't do it for me. We didn't think about when we bought these three cookies they were all shortbread. I wish we would of tried some of the other varieties. For the price I doubt I'll be back. I'd rather go to Neveria la flor de Mexico ice cream parlor in the same plaza. They are very crisp and buttery and the flavor is really good (nice buttery cookie base, good chocolate flavor, good nuts). I think the bag of cookies was around $5. I am sure the price varies by store. There are a lot of just okay packaged cookies out there, but these ones are pretty good. I have only had their cookies from grocery stores/restaurants. I can eat dozens of these. The pecan ones reminded me of pecan sandies which I always liked eating. The Cafe Moments are amazing. Its an espresso coffee bean cookie. Its almost like the mexican wedding cookies but with tasty coffee flavor. The Blueberry Dream is fruit filling between shortbread cookies.
