An excellent place to get your car fixed. I was so thankful for Keil because they came highly recommended by my neighbors and I understood why. I don't expect my car to be done asap bc I know there are many people who need cars serviced. Not only that, but I didn't make an appointment in advance and I dropped off my car the night before for a window that would not go up and down anymore. But it was done the next day and it worked perfectly. They are no nonsense, hard working, highly knowledgeable mechanics, and totally reasonable with prices and labor. They also have a cold and hot water machine and free instant coffee with snacks like Chocolate-Pie (marshmallow w chocolate cookie). I will keep coming here. Thank you Mike! Still my go-to place to get my car repair/maintenance done. As of writing, this was during the COVID-19 restrictions. The waiting area is small, but if you don't mind that and the no-frills of this place, definitely check out Keil's! Mike is the best and he is very professional and well-trusted. I've talked to customers there and one person drove an hour away from Indiana to go to Keil's. As Mike is a great and trust worthy mechanic, this place is ALWAYS busy, so call ahead to get an appointment. What makes him so trust worthy is that he won't have you do a repair that isn't needed. For example, we were concerned about our brakes and in a span of a year, he would tell us we don't need to replace it, you got a few months, and then when it really came time, he said "yes, you definitely should now." When I asked him whether I should be worried about oil dilution on the new 10th gen Honda 1.5L turbocharged GDI engines, he said there's a lot of cars nowadays that have GDI, and that I shouldn't have to worry about it too much, and to just enjoy driving it. I can't argue with that. Much like the waiting indoor area, the parking lot is somewhat small, so expect to park on nearby Melvina side street, or expect to play a little car musical chairs at times. Mike also has great temperament; a customer was hastily backing up her car, playing musical chairs, and almost sideswiped Mike. Without skipping a beat, he helped her diagnose her "Check Engine" light right afterwards. I went there for the first time on Thursday January 21 2021. Thus place was referred by a good friend. My had a break fluid line bust, my car was undriveable. Met with Mike and right away I felt like he was going to be an honest guy. He gave it to me straight because I have an old car. My car was fixed, but told me of potential other problems that might come up. What he charged me was so reasonable. I am positive I would have been charged 3 times more somewhere else. I'll be going to him forever. UPDATE: 2 years later from my original review, and I am still going to Keil Automotive. This is the best place ever. Um. Yes yes and yes ! Finally found a mechanic and repair shop that I can trust. It's like finding the chupacabra itself ! I was completely honest with them and they were completely honest with me. I told them what I've been previously told that HAD to be done by other places. They told me what needed to be done and most of what I was told had to be done previously DIDNT. I was expecting to have to shell out so much money but it was so so so reasonable and so within my means it's such a relief when you're not ripped off or taken advantage of! I had to wait some time but that's only because the a holes from Firestone(if you want a good read/laugh I recommend searching for my review on that sick joke of a place) didn't do a good job in the first place and didn't clean thoroughly all the rust I had. So I waited a while but I honestly didn't mind. It got crazy packed throughout the day. They are very popular and busy because they are so good. I recommend calling ahead a day before to let them know when you're coming in. They are open 8-6 M-F and 8-1 on Saturdays. Closed sundays. read more

Had an Emergency tire situation near my house today when I took my Jeep Grand Cherokee through a car wash (Lawrence and Canfield) and the tire rails popped a slow leak in my back wheel. I quickly drove to my local Firestone for repair, however, they apathetically told me they couldn't fix it until tomorrow. My tire was losing oxygen quickly so that was not going to work. I did the only thing I could do at the time and yelped the area for another option. I ran across Kiel Automotive, which wasn't the closest but I noticed that they had great reviews. I knew I would be taking a chance on the 2 mile trek to get there. The stressful drive on a tire that was leaking air was not fun. However I cannot say how glad I was to find this shop. Mike Lee was a complete gentleman and could not have been any kinder. The service was quick and the price was extremely fair. We take my wife's car to Keil Auto, and we've been very happy with the service we've gotten. Keith (the Owner I believe) has been very friendly and helpful since we've been going there for the last few years. I've been taking my cars to Keil ever since I started driving. For as long as I've gone there, it was owned by Keith, but Keith sold the garage to Mike last year, and I figure you ought to know that he's just as sharp (if not sharper). I've only met Mike two or three times, but he remembers me and my family pretty well - he knew that my Dad's car was in the shop when I stopped by this morning. Over the weekend I blew out a tire on a nasty pothole. I stopped in at Keil this morning, and Mike found the hole on the side of the tire right away and told me it needed to be replaced. He showed me my replacement options on TireRack.com - he had an opinion on most of the brands - and said he had a local supplier that could get it to him same day for about the same price - five or ten bucks more at most. I told him to go for it - he called me back a few hours later to say the tire had come in, and I'm stopping in tomorrow to get it changed. He's only charging $20 for the labor. I don't know how he stays in business. Oil changes are pretty quick - bring a book, because the waiting room is a little dated. The Northwest Highway bus is steps away, so you can get to Jefferson Park pretty quickly, if you need to get to work. read more

It's hard to find a good, honest mechanic. I'm not painting the entire profession in a negative light but anyone who has received different quotes for the same or related problem knows that's it's tough to know who to trust. I've paid $500 for a repair that I was told later should have cost me $50 and $100 for a temporary repair that caused a $900 problem. Granted, I'm somewhere between "care-free toddler" and "clueless neophyte" on the knows-about-cars scale, but I'm smart--or dumb--enough to know when I've been ripped off, or at least begrudgingly accept the face when I see all the evidence staring me in the face. In the past 25 years, we've had all sorts of parts on all sorts of cars replaced--brakes, coils, shocks, alternators, water pumps, radiators--the list goes on. And maybe, I felt like I was given good, honest service two or three times. Even when I had my entire engine replaced (under warranty) from the dealer, I still felt like they missed something. I needed to get a car looked at recently so I asked around. Two of my friends recommended Keil and the Yelp reviews were on fire, so I bit. Granted, you might have to call a couple of times and leave a couple of messages but do it. Mike is the real deal. Honest, informative and completely fair when it comes to pricing--probably more than fair. What I thought--and was told--would be a $700 to $1,000 repair cost me $100. And the repair actually fixed the problem. No return visit, no "what kind of a man gets ripped off by a mechanic?" judgmental looks from my wife, no receipt-induced anguish or post-repair rage. Instead, a solid repair for an excellent price from a great shop. I mentioned the insanely positive Yelp reviews when Mike handed me my keys and in an almost perplexed way, he said something like "that must be why we're so busy lately." It was this funny, borderline-naive response, a really sweet and honest acknowledgment that while it was nice to get recognized for good work, all the Yelp reviews in the world couldn't define a guy more than his work ethic and honesty.
