After hearing so much about Keiichi over the years, my husband and I were finally able to come through and experience it for our anniversary in March. All the staff were super informative and nice, and the experience at the sushi bar was super intimate. There was another party who had booked out the main room with Chef Keiichi, so another party and we were seated in the side room, but you could still see and interact with the chef as he came in and out of the kitchen. Since it was our first time, we opted to try the omakase. I would not say it's really a "traditional" sushi omakase restaurant insofar as edomae style goes; Keiichi is more of a Japanese fusion restaurant with Italian influences. The omakase itself is more a tour of the greatest hits on the a la carte menu, and service ends when you tell the servers you're too full to continue :P All of the cooked dishes we ate were really good, and the mentaiko pasta we added at the end was probably the best bite we had. I liked that we did the tasting menu the first time so we got to try a bit of everything and see what they do best, and they'll ask your preferences and try to match them, but they do charge you full price for everything, so you're just letting the chef choose what you eat from the menu, rather than some omakase places where it costs a little less to do than if you just ordered off the menu yourself. In all honesty, I would actually NOT come here for the nigiri. Most of the raw fish was fresh and tasty, but the sushi rice was straight up plain rice, unflavored, which was really disappointing after all the good cooked food. The raw sashimi-style dishes were better, and like I said the fish was pretty fresh; the mediocre rice was just incredibly jarring compared to the rest of the experience. On the plus side, the matcha tiramisu that we finished with was incredible. At any rate, we were stuffed after. Our whole bill ended up being around $250 pp after tax and tip. We have another reservation this year for my husband's birthday; now that we're more familiar with the menu, we'll probably select some of the courses we enjoyed the first time and try some other things a la carte off the menu. Looking forward to it!

I have been trying to get a reservation at this location for 4 years. Please note, that unless you receive a text a couple weeks before your reservation date, it does not mean you have a reservation. My friend had called in October for a date in February and noted it down on the calendar. However, when we showed up for what we thought was our reservation, we were told we did not have one. Unfortunately, this place does not quickly pick of the phone (if they even pick up), so even as we called the day off, we could not get a hold of them. However, though we did not have a reservation, they were kind enough to squeeze us in on the corner of the bar. I would recommend sitting in the main area so you can watch the chef in action but given we supposedly did not have a reservation that was saved, we were just happy to eat. Investing in a reservation system would be highly recommended to not cause such confusion as we would not have driver an hour for dinner if we did not have something reserved. Food - everything we tried from the sushi, sashimi, lamb was amazing. The fish is delicate, fresh, and simply delicious. Many items had unique flavors that I would not initially think to pair together, but were great! The made to order and intimate experience is well worth it. Note, the place is fairly pricey, but you are not only paying for quality food, but also service and experience. It is also BYOB, which we were unaware of, so feel free to bring your own bottle or two of wine!

Very intimate sushi dining experience. We had the chef's choice for our meals. Good time and all the chefs choices were great! I'm usually not a Sea Urchin fan but this was the freshest I've had before. Overall fun dining experience with great food.

So the restaurant itself kind of looks like an abandoned Pizza Hut (stole that from another guest but it's true.) You walk in and see 10 seats surrounding and area where the food is prepped. 10 seats (seats not tables), 1 table, and like 6 seats at a bar is all their is. This experience changed a lot for me in terms of how i rate sushi going forward. Had the Sushimi Platter and it was amazing. Like difficult to describe amazing. The stars to our foursome were the flounder and trout. Delicate, clean, and just perfect. The Rack of lamb was incredible. Like make you curse good. Eat here. As often as you can. Reservations are months out so plan ahead.

BEST FOOD EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. basically a private dining experience since we were the last seating and Chef Keiichi was kind enough to speak with us while we were finishing up our meal. my ultimate favorite is the beef tataki. the thickness of the slices with the special sauce and onions was a perfect flavor combination. i've never had uni butter before but trying this uni butter toast was truly life changing. super creamy but still stays true to the taste of uni. boyfriend's favorite was for sure the marinated tuna sashimi with fresh guacamole which was definitely a close second for me. sounds like a simple dish but is an extremely unique mix of flavors. our waitress, Miwa, was also very sweet and always had a smile on her face. can't wait to come back here when more reservations open up!!!

I'm so glad I was able to stop by Keiichi after 10 years since my first visit! They are always pretty booked up unless you're going alone, but it's worth the single visit or even waiting 2 months on the list to get in. I ordered the Salmon nigiri and Tomato pasta. I was pleased with the size of the pasta order, it's become a larger order size than from what I remember, and the hearty flavor will really fill you up. The nigiri is simple and delicious, you can't go wrong with really anything on their menu.

    Seared tuna with risotto-simply wonderful!

This is just complete flavor with every bite. It's Japanese with some Italian influences ( risotto). The steak with avocado was delicious. Actually every dish I had was just perfect. There is a one year waitlist to get in as it is a very small restaurant with Chief cooking everything to order- so it's more than dinner- it's an experience! They are only open 3 days a week- from 530-930. Totally worth the wait!

    Overpriced at $95 per bottle....
    Hung L.

My complaint is most of the dishes were marinated in some type of soy sauce and was sliced paper thin. Some of the other rolls had minced fish in it and hardly any whole sushi or sashimi pieces. The steak tartar was excellent as was the Akitabare Sake, but $95 per bottle is ridiculous, especially since retail price is under $30 for a 720ML. The price for both of us with gratuity was just over $300 which is ludicrous, especially since I left wanting more sushi. Oh, the tiramisu was phenominal.....will I go back? Definitely not, I feel I was taken advantage of by the meager servings, over marinated fish and absurd prices. I honestly don't see the attraction...they claim you must make reservations weeks in advance, but there was walk in traffic.....I JUST DON'T GET IT.

What do I have to do to get a reservation??? lol What kind of Seating do they have...booth or counter?

He has 4 seats in the bar area, 6 at a table, and 10 at the counter. Reservations are incredibly difficult to get. He does offer take out if you order 24 hours in advance.

What vegan options does it have?

I would venture none, since even sushi rice traditionally has dashi broth as an ingredient. Even the fusion Italian dishes would mostly include non-vegan broth or butter. This is a tiny specialty establishment that only seats 20 people a night, who… Read more

Teriyaki Madness Denton -- officially cured my noodle craving!…read more I've been craving noodles for days, and Teriyaki Madness came through like a hero. We ordered a regular spicy chicken (noki-style) with noodles turned combo (plus a drink and egg roll), the regular teriyaki salmon with noodles and veggies, and of course had to throw in crab rangoons and wontons -- because balance. Everything was so good. The chicken had that perfect spicy kick, the salmon was tender and flavorful, and the noodles were pure comfort food perfection. You can tell everything's cooked fresh, not sitting under a heat lamp somewhere. The portions? Generous. The flavor? Addictive. The satisfaction level? 11/10. If you're in Denton and craving something that hits that sweet spot between fast and actually delicious, this is your sign -- go get the noodles.

I had the teriyaki chicken bowl with fried rice and stir-fried veggies, plus an order of crab rangoons to start. The rangoons were a surprise hit--they looked more like mini tacos or empanadas, perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Total comfort food. The chicken had a little more char than I prefer on some pieces, but it was still juicy, and I'm chalking that up to new-opening kinks. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, even if they were still working through some early hiccups. There was a bit of confusion when we tried to use a BOGO entrée coupon from their app, but they stuck with it until it got sorted out. Once we were settled with our food, multiple team members came by to check in, which was a nice touch and showed they care about the customer experience. As for the space, the interior is small, and we ended up at the last 2-top table in the hallway by the drink station and restrooms, which sounds worse than it was. It actually wasn't bad, and the whole place had a clean, casual vibe. The prices were fair, and the portion sizes were just right, not too much, not too little. Like Goldilocks, it hit the sweet spot. I'm definitely looking forward to going back once they've had time to fully hit their stride!

Step 4: Name every roll after either a volcano, a ninja, or an apocalypse. Komodo Loco apparently looked at that formula and said, "Nah." This place has actual character. The restaurant is dark and cool without feeling like you're being interrogated. There are cozy little nooks everywhere, and somehow it manages to feel both laid-back and upscale. Like if a speakeasy and a sushi restaurant had a child who grew up with excellent taste. Then the food arrived. Look, I've had plenty of sushi. I've had good sushi. I've had "my friend won't stop talking about this sushi" sushi. Komodo Loco belongs in the last category. The fish was incredibly fresh, but what really stood out was that the rolls didn't all taste like slight variations of spicy mayo negotiating with cream cheese. The flavors were genuinely original. We ordered the Crispy Rice Bites, the T-Dub Roll, and the Horacio Roll based on our server's recommendations. The Crispy Rice Bites were so good I briefly considered ordering a second round before I had finished the first. The T-Dub Roll disappeared from the plate so quickly that I suspect it may have violated several laws of physics. The Horacio Roll was one of those dishes that makes you stop talking mid-sentence and stare into the middle distance while reconsidering every life choice that led you to not order two of them. Which brings me to our server: Breann. Or Breanna. I apologize for not knowing which one. In my defense, I was busy entering a committed relationship with sushi. My daughter is moving to Denton, and since we don't live here, we asked what we should order. Breann/Breanna immediately became the Gandalf of menu navigation. There was no hesitation. No "everything is good." No vague server diplomacy. Just confident recommendations that absolutely delivered. She was kind, funny, helpful, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. More importantly, she made my daughter feel at home in a city she's about to call home. As a dad, that meant a lot. I also loved how Komodo Loco celebrated Pride Month. Not because restaurants have to weigh in on everything, but because the atmosphere simply communicated: "Hey, you're welcome here." And honestly, that's one of the best things a restaurant can do. Good food fills your stomach. A welcoming place fills the room. Komodo Loco managed to do both. So yes, I'll be back every time I'm in Denton. My daughter thinks she's moving here for school. I think she's moving here so I'll have an excuse to eat at Komodo Loco several times a year. One of us is probably right.

It wasn't very busy at the time, but our drinks still took about ten minutes to arrive. We started with potstickers, which were delicious, and our little one's avocado came out quickly, which we appreciated. However, after placing our order, we noticed several tables seated after us receiving their food before we did. At one point, we were concerned our order may have been overlooked. When the food finally arrived, it was very good--no complaints there--but the wait was a bit disappointing, especially since most of what we ordered were appetizers. Overall, we'd still come back, just hoping for a smoother experience next time.
