I struggled trying to find a reliable, honest and communicative place to fix my Jeep. Tired of my previous mechanic I decided to try the local auto repair shop in my town and for my surprise I found the best service I've had in years. Ann was awesome keeping me informed through the process of fixing my car, they seem to genuinely value their costumers situation and time. Thanks you!

I recently drove my Nissan Versa Note from Brentwood to Los Angeles for an event & back and upon touching down in Brentwood it started having issues. Apparently during the drive back on the I-5 my cars heat exhaust cover got too hot and cracked a bit which was causing it to flap and was making a super loud rattling noise that was so embarrassing. I drove my car around like that for two days until I couldn't take it anymore, the stares coming from people were unbearable. I searched on Google for local auto body shops that specialized in Nissans and heat exhaust issues and came across Keep it New Auto Service. After filtering out through hundreds of reviews I decided to drop in to see if they could help me (no call ahead or nothing). Upon arrival I asked one of the mechanics at the shop if they had availability to check out my cars issue as it would be required to be lifted to inspect it and he asked me to check in with the front office folks which happened to be the lovely owners Ann & Ace. They had their mechanic squeeze me in and check out the issue in a prompt manner while I got added to their computer system in the office. 20 minutes later the mechanic mentioned that he had fixed the issue and that the car was no longer making a rattling noise. He had patched up my exhaust cover with epoxy glue and had added additional screws so it would stay in place. Then I asked the owners how much I owed them for the repair and was floored when they told me "nothing it's on the house". After insisting to at least let me tip the mechanic, they told me that there was no need for that because this is how they like to treat people bc it's the right thing to do. I was so moved by this gesture and expressed that to them. In a world where everyone's trying to make a quick buck from you or rip you off I can't tell you how incredibly refreshing it is to find genuine and kind people like the folks from Keep it New. I will certainly be bringing my car here from now on and will recommend them to everyone who needs their car repaired here in the area. From the bottom of my heart thank you so much for touching my heart with your generosity and thoughtfulness. May god bless you and your business

Do you do transmission oil changes?

Hi Tim, yes we do. Let me add a note to this. If you have been doing regular transmission fluid exchanges and there is no issue with the transmission, it should be fine for a fluid exchange. Or the mileage is so low it is like the first… Read more

Hi how much for an oil change?

Hi Emily, that's difficult to answer directly. We would need to know what is the vehicle. If it uses full synthetic oil, it will be more expensive than synthetic blend oil. If it's a truck with full synthetic, it'll even more expensive because they… Read more

Hi. I just bought a 2012 Nissan Maxima S with 140k miles. Car runs well but would like to bring it in and get an opinion of what services it needs. I think definitely transmission service for cvt. Do u work on Nissan?

I believe they do.

Do you repair/refinish rims?

No, I know Keep it New sounds like a body repair. we are a auto repair shop. Mainly mechanical. I could recommend calling cooks collision or another auto body shop they will probably direct you better.

Do you work on G wagons?

Thank you for your interest in servicing your vehicle here however we did not service Mercedes Benz. I am so sorry.

Yes we can on many makes and models, but there are exceptions to any rule. However having said that, we find in most cases it is better for our customers to have a U Haul facility install them. Their labor is much less then ours and there have… Read more

Nayarit Transmission & Auto Repair

East Oakland

This review is long overdue, but I've been so busy with work that I'm only now getting around to…read moreit. I wanted to make sure I followed up because I know my review will mean something for this business. I brought my classic Toyota Land Cruiser to Nayarit Transmission in East Oakland for a transmission fluid change. From the start, I felt at ease. Yes, there's a security dog on-site, but the way the owner treats him says everything!he's clearly part of the family, not just for show. As someone who loves dogs, I really respected that. The owner walked me through the whole process, explained why a higher-quality filter gasket was worth it (and he was right the one I had wasn't great), and even saved the old fluid to show the work was done right. He got the job done faster than I expected and at a more-than-fair price. This shop is built on honesty, hard work, and family values. In today's world, that's rare. I highly recommend Nayarit Transmission if you want quality work and someone you can truly trust with your car.

I came to Nayarit because another mechanic at a different shop said my transmission on my 2015…read moreNissan Rogue was damaged and they don't deal with replacing transmissions. A quick perusal of Reddit revealed that Nissan Rogues from this time period were notorious for major problems with the CVT transmissions and there was no fix apart from replacement. I am always a bit terrified of dealing with mechanics because I realize how vulnerable I am to having to trust the expertise of a complete stranger and I have no real independent way of verifying that I am not being taken for a ride. I was fully expecting having to shell out $7000 or more. So, when I rolled up into Nayarit, I was greeted my Marcos. He was friendly and welcoming, and fully explained the history of problems with Nissan Rogue transmissions and why they generally have to be replaced. But he said he wouldn't know for sure until he did a full diagnostic. So, I left my vehicle with him, fully expecting the worse. So, I was quite surprised when Marcos called me and said that perhaps my problem was not my transmission, but instead the transfer case that is attached to the transmission. The transfer case, well, transfers power, between the front and rear axles for all wheel drive. Marcos explained that replacing the transfer case, which is a third of the cost of replacing the transmission, might fix the problem. But he warned me that, sometimes, after replacing the transfer case, they realize the transmission still needs to be replaced. I was cautiously hopeful, but still prepared for the worst. In just two days, Marcos replaced the transfer case, did a full tune-up of the existing transmission, as well as some other severely needed maintenance, and turned my vehicle over to me working perfectly. No need for a new transmission! What??!!? Marcos could have told me I needed a new transmission, and I would have believed him. It is extremely evident that Marcos is extraordinarily trustworthy - he will do a careful diagnostic review of your vehicle, carefully explain exactly what is wrong based on his expertise and experience, and will only repair or replace what is necessary. The cost of his work is very fairly priced. He works fast. He takes great pride in the high quality of his work. He has integrity. What more could you possibly hope for? Thank you, Marcos. You are awesome!

I brought my car in due to an intermittent gear slipping issue, which I had already traced to a solenoid problem--a very common issue with my Pontiac G6. The symptoms only occurred twice, very briefly. My check engine light came on both times but turned off on its own. I was still able to drive the car on the freeway at full speed with no issues. The problem only showed up during city stop-and-go traffic. I specifically asked if they could just replace the solenoid, and was told no. Instead, I was told I "only had gears 1 and 2" and that I'd need a $4,800 transmission rebuild--which is objectively false, as I literally drove the car 70+ mph on the freeway both before and after leaving the shop. My engine light was off before coming to the shop, turned on once at the shop, then turned back off shortly after leaving. There is no way my car had only gears 1 & 2 I know what that feels like as it happened twice briefly. So to say this to me is insane. Mind you wouldn't have been able to go more than 25 with out the car struggling they must have assumed I don't know a thing about cars. Possibly because I'm a woman and I went alone. They also claimed the solenoid was too difficult to access without replacing the computer and warned me about my car's mileage, as if that meant it wasn't worth fixing. But then, on my way out, they admitted it's a "really great car" and "this is the only issue." It felt manipulative. I decided to trust my gut, went to a different shop, and had the solenoid replaced--and now my car runs perfectly fine. No rebuild needed. If I hadn't known what I was talking about, they would've gladly let me spend thousands on a completely unnecessary repair. Trust yourself. Do your research. Don't let fear-based upselling push you into something you don't need. Also from reading the reviews it sounds like the routinely tell their customers they need a rebuild and successfully do the rebuild. (more than likely something very easily replaceable) However a good transmission shop doesn't just rebuild, they properly and honestly diagnose and repair. He also tried selling me cars on the way out. Notice how he hasn't replied to this yelp review and also told me he feels bad for me in the text? Very unprofessional I don't need your pitty I needed honesty which I didn't get from this shop. He also told me don't buy a used car you can't guarantee you won't have problems it's best if you fix this one with us. Also told me not to go to another shop because id want a local shop lol

I came in only needing the oil but having a leak for the last 2 weeks. They let me know what was wrong and gave me price information as well as letting me know I could have waited to replace the coolant system if I wanted. That's the best part of them, they really keep you informed about everything in your car, what needs to be done, what to watch for, and gives no pressure to buy. They seem to be right on market prices for labor and parts. I'll never go elsewhere!!!

The second time was, sadly, due to signs of a blown head gasket on a 2013 car with lots of miles, and not worth fixing. Both times, their staff has been empathetic, upfront on repair options and very responsive to calls and follow up. I'd recommend them to anyone in the Brentwood area needing a mechanic. I haven't had to do a lot of car repairs since moving to Brentwood, so I can't compare costs. It will be a while before I'm back, having recently purchased a newer (used) vehicle but I'd definitely use them again when the time comes. I especially appreciate Rina, who is at the front desk and will explain repair and pricing options in a way that you can easily understand. She's a a great asset to their business!
