    Basmati rice
    Kathy G.

Before the pandemic I would occasionally visit the lunch buffet here and this was my first visit in a very long time. I believe I read that they have changed ownership, possibly? They are located off First Capitol, a few blocks from I-70, in a small shopping plaza. They have several dedicated parking spots for takeout. I was rather surprised to see trash right outside the front door. I had to wait a bit once inside before I was waited on. Once waited on, the service was friendly. The food was incredibly good. Gobi Manchurian was crisp and flavorful. Garlic naan was better than average. The paneer Tikka Masala had tender cubes of paneer and a well-spiced sauce. The Basmati rice was fresh and fragrant. Great for take-out!

Upon arrival I was greeted by a friendly hostess. Seating was limited and the atmosphere was takeaway focused. You could tell the restaurant was family ran, as there was a home altar with memorial photos at the entry way and the smell of incense was present, and the food storage area was visible where you could see bottles of water and bags of jasmine rice that were on the ground, so instead of dining in, I respected the space and asked for a menu for takeaway. I ordered a dal tadka, while I normally prefer dal makhani, the garam masala forward flavor won me over, I also ordered chicken 65, chicken vindaloo, lamb tika masala, and a variety of naan. The 65 was fried nicely and the seasoning and flavor was about average. The vindaloo was underwhelming in spice and seasoning, very thin, and tasted more like tomato soup. The tika was average, a bit creamy and light, with a coriander and turmeric forward flavor. The naan was very lightly toasted. They also provided jasmine rice for each entree, which was lightly seasoned. I had requested dishes as spicy as possible, and I was unable to detect any heat, just the flavor of heat, however to note I am a chili-head and understand this is relative for some folks, if you're looking for something spicy like I usually am, you won't be blown away with the spice game presented. Overall the experience was average for an Indian inspired cuisine takeaway experience. The Dal was the best of their offerings tasted, however I did have to ask if they had it, as it wasn't on the menu, which was surprising to see for such a staple dish.

Siri intimate and great hit in German for Indian food. There was only one employee working, and she was very sweet and kind a place to go order for a friend of mine they stated it will be ready within 15 minutes, but it was ready as soon as I walked in which was about 10 minutes after ordering. The facility was very clean, and the food smells delicious. Everything was perfect according to my friend as far as temperature and correctness of the order. I've never been to this restaurant before and I cannot wait to come back. As soon as you walk in, you are swept away with a incredible amnions and mouthwatering flavors smell coming from the kitchen

    Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan

Just wanted to update that I was a little afraid they had closed but I was able to order again last night and everything is still delicious! The rice I got with my order last night was especially stunning and perfectly cooked.

    Veggie samosas

Fantastic! I don't know if this is authentic or not, but it is so comforting and filling. The butter chicken is perfectly seasoned and medium spice is just enough to taste but not going to leave a burning sensation. The tikka masala was just as one would expect. The only thing that could make it even better is if the chicken pieces were smaller. The veggie samosas are very big and filling. I probably wouldn't order them again, simply because the portion sizes for everything is HUGE. 2 people could easily split one entrée. The real stand out to me is the garlic naan. The regular naan is also fantastic, but if you like garlic that one is slightly better imo (and I don't even like cilantro). I would order a few, especially if you want to dip it in the delicious sauces.

Paneer pakora, green sauce, lamb tikka masala were good. Basmati rice were OK. But my Chicken Tandoori was uncooked! (See the pics) They refunded it though.

Chicken 65 had nothing else in it and scrapes of burnt all over it. It tasted awful and I wanted this dish soooooo badly. I'm so disappointe

I have been ordering here for years, but they changed owners and it's awful now. Huge waste of money and my food didn't come with rice.

Basmati rice (yum), Butter Chicken (top), Lamb Madras

My husband and I want to learn about Indian food. We decided to try two items. Butter Chicken (Murg Makhani), an iconic Indian dish, is "boneless tandoori chicken simmered in butter curry." Tandoori chicken is legs and thighs that have been cooked (probably grilled or stovetop, nowadays), in yogurt, garlic, ginger, and other yummy things. So then you add butter curry? I'm in! Tempted by the flavor combination of coconut and chili, we chose Lamb Madras. The menu described it as "tender pieces of lamb slowly cooked in coconut and chilly curry." We figured the curry wasn't cold, but made with chilies. Both, happily, turned out to be true. We ordered takeaway. The entrees were in large circular dishes, heavily wrapped in plastic wrap. No leaks. Each came with a large square styrofoam container loaded with beautiful basmati rice. Once we removed the lids from the piping hot dishes, they both looked and smelled rich, fragrant, tomatoey, and so, so similar. The meat chunks were both dark. Which one was which? When in doubt, try both. If you're laughing at how dumb we are, I'm glad we've brightened your day. If you're shaking your head at our ignorance, hang in there. See, we eventually figured out the darker-colored one was Lamb Madras, therefore the other one MUST be Butter Chicken. (See how smart we is?) The lamb had square, firm chunks and strong tomato flavor; it was hard to discern anything that made it specifically Indian. It was tasty, but not unique. The butter chicken dish left me underwhelmed. Again, the flavor was strong, but not deep or layered. What was scrumptious was the basmati rice: perfect, each grain separate. I don't know what spices they used, but the color was shades of saffron. Maybe saffron, turmeric, cinnamon stick. Whatever they do, it's quite good. When Hubby picked up the food, a sign inside said the food was halal. I plan to give this place another try. And check out some other Indian places in the St. Charles area as well. Got a favorite?

Overpriced and under seasoned. The chicken korma was watery and the rice was crunchy. I'll drive further away for better Indian food.

My friends and I ordered a variety of dishes so we could try a bit of everything. While everything tasted good, it was overwhelmingly spicy. Other than my friends' kids, we all can usually handle spicy foods, but even the Level 1 spicy was difficult to continue eating. I don't think they got their spice levels right; the level 1 and level 2 Tikka masala tasted the same, yet the heat felt more like a level 4. My friends spent nearly $80 on their meals for themselves and their kids, but the only ting they could manage to eat was the naan. I gave them a rating of 3 not only because the confusing spice levels, but mostly because the service was okay. We ordered Long Island Iced tea, but our server completely forgot about it and eventually brought it to us after our food came out with all the ice melted. With all the spice we're eating, I also would think they would be a bit more attentive with refilling our drinks, too. If you enjoy spicy foods, I definitely recommend this spot. The food was good, just way too spicy. However, definitely not for kids, and if you can't handle a bit of spice, then this is not the place for you either.

While browsing reviews, we came across a hidden gem in St. Ann called Maaji's Street Kitchen that had surprisingly high ratings. I couldn't believe how well-reviewed it was, so we decided to check it out for ourselves. We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Monday and were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in. We made our way to the counter to place our order, and the staff member was very helpful once we mentioned it was our first time. He walked us through the menu and even pointed out different dishes and combo options on their digital signage display menu, which made ordering much easier. We placed our order to go and waited inside. It's a small space, but it's decorated with unique art and has a really unique vibe. There was a hypnotic Indian song playing in the background, which added to the atmosphere. We sat at a table that had a game on it--I believe it was called Carrom, a tabletop game where you flick checker-sized discs into corner pockets, similar to a mini pool table. A woman who I assume was the owner or manager came out from the back and greeted us. While we waited, she showed us how to play the game. As we were playing, she came back and even offered us samples of the food we had ordered. I was honestly impressed by the level of hospitality--it's not something you experience very often. The sample alone was some of the best Indian food I've had. The spices were perfectly balanced for my taste, and it made me even more excited to get home and dig into our full meal. My wife ordered the Mixed Vegetable Curry Bowl, and I went with Combination #2 (Shredded Chicken Curry, Steamed Rice, and Parantha), along with a side salad. Overall, the experience was fantastic. I can't remember the last time we were treated this well at a restaurant, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more dishes.

I was hopeful that they were possibly just very busy at that moment. The parking lot is shared with several other businesses located in this plaza. There is disabled parking in front of the business, but the ramp is in front of Sauce on the Side next door. As I entered this casual spot, they were very busy on this Saturday night. You can place your order online or at the walk up counter. There were several people in front of me, but the line moved fast. The menu is on the board behind the counter and you can see some of the fresh items displayed. There are some tables inside the restaurant if you decide to stay. It seems that the majority of the people ordered takeout. I ordered the onion pakoda, which is similar to onion straws, and it was a huge serving, enough for 2-4 people. It was served warm and crispy. The onions were sweet and the fried batter had good flavor. I tried the weekend special, which were 3 vegetarian choices out of 5-6: Palak Paneer, Paneer Butter Masala and Eggplant curry. Rice or naan does not come with it. It costs extra. The garlic naan was fresh and flavorful. The Palak Paneer was adequate, mildly spiced, and about what I expected. The paneer butter masala was well-spiced and had a slight capsaicin kick. The eggplant curry was absolutely delicious and rather spicy. I'm glad I had a drink close by. This was a very good value as I had enough leftover for another meal.
