Lots of different people helped us out, took our order, brought food etc. but it felt like the service while good, was just slightly below great. We got the veggie clay pot and the mixed grill to share between two people, and my son got a fattoush salad and the kebbeh. The mixed grill was great, all the meats were flavourful, and tender/juicy. It came with a lamb/beef kebab, some beef tenderloin, and some chicken. I think there were roast potatoes too, but my memory is a bit fuzzy on that part. The veggie stew was poured onto a plate of bulgur and was really really good. Lots of flavour, all the veggies (carrots, cauliflower, onions, etc.) were tender. the juices ran through the bulgur which made for a great side dish to go with the meat. The kebbeh was tasty but still a bit disappointing -- there were only three, and didn't feel like quite enough to make a meal. Luckily the fattoush salad was huge otherwise my son would have left the restaurant hungry. Compared to some of the dishes we saw on other tables, this dish seems to be an outlier in terms of quantity of food, and it's certainly not worth the $28 price; I wouldn't recommend it. Despite the disappointment with the one meal, all the food was delicious and I still felt like the meal on the whole was good value, and I wouldn't mind going back to try some of their other dishes.

First time trying Armenian food, but definitely not the last! The whole experience was wonderful…read morefrom start to finish. The restaurant is tucked inside a charming little house with a deck out front, string lights & such a cozy feel. When we arrived, it was packed with couples young & old and families, and the whole atmosphere felt low-key, warm & joyful. We ordered wine and a few things from the menu: Fattoush Salad, Sarma (grape leaves), Cheese Borak, dips (hummus, moutabbal & lavash eggplant) and Shish Taouk (chicken kabobs). While there are similarities to Middle Eastern food, there were some subtle differences I really loved, especially the chicken, which was incredibly moist & flavorful, and the Cheese Borak, which I'd never had before and was SO good. Everything we tried was delicious, the service was wonderful, and I would absolutely come back.

This Armenian restaurant gets 2.5 stars…read more Tanabour was rich, thick & creamy. Yogurt & mint meant it was a bit of an acquired taste, but it was decent.  Samsak was decent. The crumb was crumbly, though slightly dry. The beef tasted decent, though it was a little dry.  Ghacourma was alright. The beef was slightly dry. It came on rice which was confusing given the menu description. We got complimentary prepackaged lavash & pita on request to make the sandwiches, but given how simple the flavour was the sandwich didn't work as it was too dry & plain (since the bread was even drier & less flavourful than the rice). The dish was rather one dimensional without any sauce as the beef was very simply cooked. The rice was also simply cooked with pine nuts.

So when the opportunity to pop in arose on a recent night out, I was thrilled to finally stop inside. I was very intrigued by all the cocktails, but I eventually decided to try the Siti Zainab ("dill infused gin + aquavit + dry vermouth + dill olive oil"). I chose correctly because it's terrific. The unusual flavors all work really well together, and I can safely say it's one of the better cocktails I've had recently. Even though we'd just eaten dinner, we figured we should grab some food, so we wound up ordering the 2pc Beef Kofta ("harissa tahini") and it promptly blew my mind. I've had plenty of kofta in my time, but this was perhaps the best of the bunch. It's so flavorful and super tender. Honestly I could've eaten about a hundred of those things. For dessert, we got the Labneh Cheesecake ("pistachio + hazelnut + baharat strawberry preserve") and it's just as good and so, so satisfying. Yeah, The Haifa Room is a top-notch little place. We'll definitely be back.

Finally being in the area one day, I popped in for a late lunch (luckily there was space, it's a fairly small restaurant) and I'm glad I tried it out. I kept it simple as I was dining solo, so went with the Chicken Levant plate, with rice/lemtils and hummus. If you think you know what hummus tastes like bc you picked up a tub at your grocery store, think again. This hummus had a deep rich flavour that just oozed deliciously good food. The chicken was nice and juicy, the rice/lentils were cooked to perfection. I honestly don't know what more to say then simply, it tasted lovely. A small salad accompanied it. Feel free to add sauce (extra $2, I chose the hot honey one). Definitely want to come back To try their other dishes, brunch, mint tea etc.

The cucumber salad is refreshing, the kefta was a little dry but tasty nonetheless, the salmon is flaky and nice, and the grilled vegetables (bell pepper and zucchini) are succulent and just a little burnt. The Knafa Ashta had a great combination of crispy filo pastry on top of warm custard (also has some pistachio bits). The atmosphere is elegant yet lively and tasteful. When the restaurant is full it's loud and bustling. Overall a superb dining experience.

2nd time visit…read more Quality very consistent and excellent. Staff very efficient and friendly. Start off with a basket of free pita bread (yes, free, an adjective not commonly used in restaurants nowadays). Pita bread was hot, toasty and soft Staff recommended the eggplant appetizer instead of cauliflower, eggplant slices were seared with a nice crust with a moist gooey eggplant meat center, add a citrusy splash, perfection Ordered lamb chops and the veal tenderloin skewers. Both ordered medium rare. Unfortunately the lamb chops were more on the medium side. My veal were removed from the skewers before arriving at my table. Most of the larger pieces were medium rare, the smaller pieces were towards the medium side. Both plates come with a large portion of rice and vegetables. Plenty of leftovers to take home, staff also offered to give us some fresh pita bread to take home, sweet.

When I…read morecalled to ask about the mistake, they told me they didn't have Ash Dogh and decided to send Adasi without even informing me first. There was no message or call just a completely different dish delivered. When I contacted them, their response was extremely rude and unprofessional. They basically said, "Do whatever you want," instead of apologizing or offering a solution. This is terrible customer service and shows a complete lack of responsibility. I feel like I wasted my money and time. I definitely won't be ordering from here again, and I don't recommend anyone else to either.

I LOVE this place. I NEED this place…read more Their pita bread is TRUE Levantine pita eaten in Syria, Jordan and Israel. It's thick, chewy, tasty and takes me back to the Middle East! They make the best pita in Ontario IMPO. I much prefer it to the thin pita which I'm not used to. I also picked up 6 "warak einab" (stuffed grape/vine leaves) for $4. This is so good in the summer with a squeeze of fresh lemon. The store is a Middle Eastern gourmands dream. They have everything you need including "ras al hanut" for meat. Their restaurant is very nice too. We've dined there a few times and always enjoyed it. Their grilled chicken hearts are my favourite.

Sababa in Thornhill doesn't chase trends--it outlives them. I've been eating here for 30 years,…read morewhich in restaurant time is basically surviving a war, and Sababa is still standing, still feeding people the way it always has: honest, soulful Middle Eastern food that shows up every day and does the job right. This is the kind of place where the menu hasn't been "reimagined," because it never needed to be. The chicken skewers dinner is a personal staple--charred just enough, juicy where it counts, seasoned with the confidence. The shawarma is famous for a reason: shaved hot, spiced deep, and piled without apology. You start with the dip platter because that's what you do here--hummus, tahini, baba ghanoush--the opening handshake before the real conversation begins. Attached to the restaurant is a grocery store that feels like a lifeline--shelves of hard-to-find ingredients, spices, and staples that remind you food isn't just something you order, it's something you live with. There's also a takeout counter with a few tables, perfect for quick eats that turn into longer stays because the food demands your attention. Sam Azar founded the place, and the legend goes deeper than the menu--he even made their lentil soup recipe public, giving it away to the newspapers like a gift, not a secret. That generosity still hangs in the air. Today, his children carry the torch, and you can feel the continuity: same spirit, same standards, same refusal to mess with something that works. Sababa isn't flashy. It's better than that. It's dependable, rooted, and quietly excellent--the kind of restaurant you measure your life around, not your Instagram feed. Find calm fam atmosphere, not TikTok madness with a side of chaos. CHEERS!!!

The smoked chicken skewers were outstanding--perfectly juicy with a subtle smokiness that enhanced the flavor well-seasoned, and cooked with care. I haven't even mentioned the colliflower which should be in a yelp review on its own. The pitas deserve just as much praise. Warm, pillowy, and slightly chewy with just the right amount of char, they were exceptional on their own and the perfect companion to the chicken. I'd love to know the recipe because they're easily some of the best pitas I've had. A special shoutout to our server, Daniel, who made our first--albeit brief--visit a memorable one. His friendly service and thoughtful recommendations elevated an already fantastic meal. This first visit was enough to convince me that I'll be back, and next time I'll be arriving hungry with plenty of time to explore the rest of the menu.
