I have been dealing on and off with Keating Brothers for over a decade. Highly recommend them for auto repair. Example: bought my son his first car to take to college, a 15 years old Civic, not purchased at Keating Brothers, brought it to a Honda dealer for an oil change. Oil change done and oh, by the way, the car needs $ 4,178 worth of breaks, wipers and exhaust system, so said the dealer. Took it in to Keating Brothers and had the work done for $ 1,439. Honest, dependable and over all nice. read more

These guys are liars. Brought my son's car in there for an oil leak. After spending about an hour looking at it they said we can't fix it. So the valve cover is leaking it's not worth fixing. Charge me $90. Went to another mechanic he found it right away it was oil sending unit. I asked for my $90 back from Keating they said no.Then I complain to BBB and they made up a story that I wasn't telling the truth. Liars liars read more

These guys were wonderful to work with and totally saved the day for me! Honest and integrous, they ended up charging me $75 on something they could've easily sold to me for $1,000. As I was driving my parents' car north from NYC to Boston, the power steering on the car seemed to stop working. I wrangled the car off the highway at the very next exit and inched to Keating Motors. They attended to my issue right away. At first look, all of some kind of fluid was drained, and it looked like some kind of band or tube or something had blown. (If not obvious by now, I know exactly nothing about cars, and nothing about the particular car I was driving.) They explained that they wouldn't be able to get the parts I likely needed until Monday (it was a Saturday), which meant that on top of parts and labor, I was going to have to pay to rent a car because I had to be in Boston that same day. Once they got the car up on that lift thing in the garage, I got on the phone with Enterprise to get a rental in place. Which, incidentally, was going to cost me another $550. After about 10 minutes, the guy who was looking at my car came running in to the waiting area and told me not to book the reservation, that they were going to be able to fix it then and there. It turned out that something on the power steering mechanism had just come loose, and he was able to tighten it, and do a few other things that I can't remember, thereby fixing my issue 100%. Total charge: $75. IF they had told me that I needed a new tube-band-something-or-other, the gentleman at the front desk said it would've run me $600 for the part alone. Not to mention labor. Not to mention that I was going to have to pay to store my car there for a week. They would've easily made $1,000 off of me, and could have, and they didn't. Instead, they quickly fixed my problem and honestly charged me $75. The expert who fixed my car was so gracious; he didn't even want to take my tip! But I insisted. I have bought three cars from Mr. Keating with no issues and a fair, negotiated price. My son worked two jobs to save for his first car and purchased a vehicle from Keating auto after Mr Keating has passed away. The new salesperson stood her ground on the price, claiming she had "money into the car". The car was a problem shortly after it was driven off the lot. It overheated three times, twice in dangerous situations such as The Merrit Parkway and a major local road. It required three tows. The overflow tank was replaced as well as the water pump. My son was told to come in when the radiator was low on antifreeze and they would top it off. When that happened, they wanted to charge him for the antifreeze. Clearly something was terribly wrong here. A radiator hose burst and stranded him again on Dixwell Avenue due to the overheating problem.Another tow. A week later the air conditioner switch failed causing the driver to take his eyes off the road to hold the button in when it went off. I was told that this was not a "safety issue" by Keating . A $200 repair. Two weeks later the car overheated on Dixwell Avenue. Took a tow (AGAIN) to Firestone where it was diagnosed as having a faulty intake gasket. Estimate from three garages was the same - around $1000 to repair and they wouldn't guarantee that the $1000 price tag would hold. There could be something else once they take everything apart. We haven't repaired it yet. We're not sure we want to. Maybe take a $2000 loss and put it on "offer up". Two repair shops told us the gasket was the problem all along and that Keating should have known it. We weren't offered an apology by Keating. The mechanics are woefully inadequate. read more

Had over $800 worth of work done on my vehicle with them, which was all fine and dandy until I drove my car off the lot to see my ABS light turn on. l brought it back to them to have the problem inspected and they decided that I needed to pay EXTRA to have the part fixed that WASN'T broken when I brought it in in the first place. Was disappointed that I ever brought my business to them. They wouldn't even offer me a discount. Intentionally or unintentionally, whatever was done to break the ABS ring, it should have been fixed back to however it was when I brought my vehicle in. How should I have been responsible for my vehicle when it was in their hands for two days! read more

Horrendous experiance, absolutely no communication, doing work that we didnt authorize, CUTTING stuff off the car!!! Gave them parts to do front wheel bearings which the left axle was seized to the bearing, ok I can see that, should have called before going and torching the axle though. Asked them to check a seal on the A/C dryer, if the seal wasnt the problem not to worry about it. Low and behold they ordered an A/C dryer without authorization!!! Put the wrong gear oil in it. Gave it a front end alignment (which I cant see how as the wheel is crooked and the front end is making crazy noises now) when the vehicle requires a 4 wheel alignment due to ReAxs. Transmission is crunching as well as stripping out the fill plug and rather than replace it they CUT A DAMN NOTCH IN IT! Absolute HACKS, steer clear of the sheisters at all costs!!!!! read more

I have nothing but positive things to say about our experience at Keating Brothers Motor Service Center. We recently moved to Hamden from Falls Church, VA, with an on-going problem with our right turn signal. Despite having taken our KIA minivan to 3 separate auto repair shops in the Falls Church area, each time the "repair" only lasted a few days, before failing to work again. Following our move to CT, we thought we'd try one local repair shop, before going out of town to the dealership. Fortunately, that shop was Keating Brothers service center! They successfully repaired the turn signal, as well as some other items, and provided maintence. It was all done in a timely manner, and for a reasonable price. I think that we have purchased more than a dozen vehicles over the years between myself and my family. Extremely trustworthy used car dealership. The only place we go for used cars. Bought a used car, from Keating brothers. they wanted $1000 more then book value, but they claimed they went through the whole car prior, and that the car was well maintained and will last me for years without problems. Within about 10 days, during the first rain storm, I had problems with the engine. I drove it to them, and they said I must have went through puddle. they said they had no time to look at it, and to come back in 3 days. by then the problem stopped. It happened the next 2 rain storms as well, and they kept saying it was me driving through puddles, when I know it wasn't. it would happin in the driveway. After 1 1/2 month when the warranty was up, it got so bad I took it to my mechanic. the car had bad coils which cost me a lot, then shortly after I had to have many other things fixed, costing me thousands in repairs. read more
