I met Andrew 2 years ago when he still worked for 4zero8 tattoo. Monk was supposed to show up for my appointment but didnt show up. My friend and I were the only ones at the shop, so Andrew was the first person who rolled up and took Monk's place in doing my tattoo. I explained to him my super simple piece, which were just two chinese characters. Since it was my first tattoo, he was very patient and explained everything that he was doing before he finally put the ink into my skin. While the tattoo was being done, Andrew conversed with my friend Xiau Ling and I about different stories of people who have gotten their tattoos done here. I could tell that he was a very mellow , kind and relaxed guy who loves his work. When we were done (i think it took about half hour), he explained thoroughly what i should do to keep it clean and have it heal correctly. He told me to come by again if i needed any touchups and he'll do it for free! (: .....two years later, i finally got my touchup and he still remembers me and obliged to my free touchup! amazed. He did a great touch up and now it looks brand new! Since he moved to a new place, i was surprised since i thought he still worked for 4zero8. i'm glad he got his own practice. His tattoo room is very clean and sterile. He specializes in tribal tattoos now so there are a lot of different paintings (canvas and others) hung on the wall, which he lets customers take home. He's super knowledgeable regarding any tattoo that would look anything like a tribal piece. I'm gong back for the 3rd tattoo (a lion) on my back soon and he gave me advice on making the size a little bigger because the detailed lines might start to blur or come together if they're too close! When I came in for the consult, he drew some basic guides on my arm for a half-sleeve tattoo and estimated the cost. We then scheduled the first of two sessions and paid the deposit to reserve time on his packed schedule. Absolutely LOVE my new tattoo! Super clean and good work. Nothing but compliments received so far--will post a pic later. I did not have an appointment but just came as a walk in, he wasn't there when I arrived but I called and he said he'd be back in an hour. Since I was kind of half expecting to only be able to set an appointment, 5 stars for taking me right away. Gave him only a rough idea of what I wanted and he took that and added his own style, so yes perfect if you are getting your first tattoo or don't exactly know what you want. Basically all in all I felt great after leaving, loved the tattoo, loved the price, loved that I was able to come in & get tattooed immediately. Howeverrrrr... I must be honest, this may or may not be a big deal to some but, he quoted me for 2 hours so I thought cool I can handle that! But I believe in total he worked on me for ~3.5 hrs... Ouch! I was ready to die by the end. A True and Masterful Artist/ Tattoo Genius: ANDREW KeALOHA ! I live in San Diego and had been researching tattoo artists who specialize in Polynesian ink work and found a few to choose from. I came across Andrew Kealoha in San Jose, checked out his portfolio and was very impressed. I of course went onto Yelp to see if he had any reviews, and as expected he did and they were all great so I decided to contact him to see if he'd be interested in doing a cover up and incorporate his beautiful artistry into it. He got back to me right away via email and said he could do it... I then called him to set a date and fly up to see him. He was so great about returning all of my emails and phone calls, I can't say the same for other artists I tried to contact, one was in Hawaii and never got back to me ! His loss, Andrew's gain ! I was a little nervous going to a new artist who i didn't know as I've been going to the same artist here in San Diego for almost 10 years... So I decided to toss my fears aside, buy a ticket on SouthWest and get up to see him. The bottom line here is, Andrew did an AMAZING job tattooing my chest. I'm SOOOO happy with his work that I'm already planning my next trip up to San Jose to see him. There are many great artists here in San Diego, but I'll say this, : Andrew was so worth the money I spent to get all the way up to the Bay area from San Diego to have him ink me! His peaceful energy was so comforting, I felt like I was part of the family as I met his fiancé, his daughter (soooo cute) his mom, his dad and even his little brother. He's so patient, thoughtful & understanding of your needs and wants. He goes over your idea then looks at your anatomy to custom fit the tattoo to suit your body. He free- handed my whole tattoo and I was amazed. All of my other tattoos were done with it being drawn onto my body, then copied with a transfer, etc etc. I was blown away at how Andrew just looks at the area he has to work with, and draws it onto you. As he started to ink me I was so excited as each section was finished because it just looked so awesome... then the finished piece just blew me away. He's such a hardworking artist ! I've never been inked by an artist who never wanted to take a break. I actually took the most breaks (most of them bathroom breaks and snack breaks).. but Andrew, he's like a machine, he just kept on working and working and working... He's truly unbelievable! What a GREAT GUY! I've received so many positive compliments about his work... At the gym, it's a attention grabber with many dudes in the locker room asking about it and who did it. I literally couldn't be any more satisfied with my tattoo and the overall experience! I have been wanting to cover up my current sleeve for awhile now and decided i would go with black art. It is extremely difficult to find an artist that feels comfortable with Black art work. After searching for over 6 months and being shut down by multiple artist because they just didn't feel comfortable or capable with the type of piece I wanted (one artist I showed pictures to, made an appointment with, traveled to the shop and after again showing him the pictures was turned away because he "didn't know where to start") , I finally contacted & met with Andrew after seeing some of his tribal work on Instagram. He was friendly and professional and I knew immediately after showing him a couple different pictures of the black art I was interested in that he would be perfect to create a custom black art cover up sleeve for me! We booked an appointment for a couple weeks out, i was so happy that he seemed to be really flexible with my work schedule. The day of the tattoo he was on time and ready to get started. I had printed up some photos of different black art tattoos that I liked and he asked me what was it that I did & didn't like about some of the photos. Never ONCE did I doubt his abilities as he was completely confident. After only a few minutes of looking through my pictures he got started on free handing my cover up. :) Not only was Andrew quick, he was creative and didn't copy the photos I showed him but kept with the EXACT style I wanted and didn't once need to refer back to the photos. I was extremely impressed with his artistry, the piece he created totally exceeded my expectations! Not to mention this was his first time doing black art! As he tattooed he would examine what he already did and make minor changes, all of which I LOVED. Seeing Andrew work and the chill vibe as well as confidence he has allowed me to relax and put the piece totally in his hands. The precision of every line and the overall quality is absolutely perfect. We did a TEN hour session with only a few bathroom breaks in between and his work was perfectly consistent the entire time! After telling them what it is that I wanted, he went to work on it right away. I was pleased with the outcome.
