This place is by appointment only. It was $20 plus tip for eyebrows and upper lip together. I scheduled an appointment but she was running a bit behind, so I ended up waiting for a good 10 to 15 minutes. The good part was that she asked me what I wanted for my eyebrows (I just got a cleaning). I usually get my lips waxed because they're sensitive to threading. She insisted that I get them threaded and the after effects were not as bad as I had experienced in the past. Will most likely return here for my next threading. read more

All was fine, procedure was as expected .... until I arrive home to notice that my skin was stinging.... upon checking, i have 4 small cuts under my right eye!!! this took a whole week to heal. I love going to Kanwal. She is efficient, detailed-orientied, and THE BEST EYEBROW GURU I'VE EVER GONE TO. When I lived in the South Bay, I used to go to Deepa the Threading Queen in Santa Clara, however, after I moved to the Peninsula, I've been seeking someone as good as Deepa, if not better. I am certain I have found her. At Deepa's, the line is always long, the wait usually lasts 20-40 minutes, and you never know if the girl threading your brows (other than Deepa and her daughter) is any good until it's too late. In comparison, you could text ahead and make an appointment with Kanwal, there is never a wait time, and she delivers every single time. I wanted my eyebrows to look less "archy", because in recently years the trend in East Asia is a more straight-brow look. Somehow, that was a difficult message to get through to my previous brow ladies (I often walked away having very "surprised!" eyebrows... -_-"~), but with Kanwal, she immediately knew what I was referring to, and recommended ways to help me gradually reshape my eyebrows to the way I want them to look. Great to find a local threading in San Mateo with quality threading. I found KD via a livingsocial deal, which always helps reduce the risk when trying a new salon. I will definitely return again - I had a full face threading and as a customer with sensitive skin, she shared with me when to stretch the skin to make the process faster and more effective. She also provided recommendations for me to follow directly after the service to minimize the effects from the service as I have experienced from other providers and it worked. Not only was I able to go out for dinner with a friend that same evening, but today is the day after and no issues/effects. I absolutely LOVE Kanwal! She is the sweetest and most talented threader I've been to, and she has the gentlest hand, meaning my brow isn't all pinched and red afterwards. Everytime I call her to make an appointment she always answers enthusiastically,"Hi Sabrina!" ... I love that special touch. I agree KD does a good job of threading. The first time I went, I called and got an appointment the same day. During my treatment, she was on the phone the entire time talking to someone in a foreign language. I made another appointment for yesterday, which she confirmed the day before. When I arrived, she was not there. I texted her "where are you?" , as I was early and the other person working there said KD was gone for the day. She called back and said she thought she had texted me, which was not the case, and all of our correspondence was on the same text chain. Time is too valuable to deal with this kind of treatment. First time getting my eyebrows threaded and I'm a definite fan of the process. While the lady who did my eyebrows here was a sweetheart, I did her find her 10 minute service to be a quite pricey. BUT she did do a solid job taming my brows. I just feel like I can get the same results for cheaper. This price point may be standard for the peninsula, but as I'm often in the east bay, I will likely pursue another boutique in the east bay that will hopefully do just as a good of job for about $5 cheaper. read more

My eyebrows have never looked so good! I'm so happy I went here on a whim. I was so desperate to get my eyebrows done and didn't want to drive all the way back home in SF to do them. I've never had someone take their time in making sure my eyebrows looked good and matching. She noticed that one eyebrow was thinner than the other so she suggested I grow them out with castor oil so they could be thick again. She was super fast/efficient but I could tell she slowed down and plucked out each individual hair that did not seem in place. My friend and I came here to get henna tattoos since we've never gotten one before. She was super friendly and the hennas both came out beautifully. I've gotten many compliments on it as well. However, I feel like she may have rushed a bit near the end because it ended up looking like a blob around my finger nails instead of this grid pattern out was supposed to be. I did find it really cool that she did it all free hand as well. My henna has been on for over a week now even after constant washing and soaping and scrubbing. Both our henna designs costed $30. We both thought it was a bit pricey but we don't really know what to compare the price to since it was our first time getting a henna tattoo. But considering my henna lasted more than a week, I guess it's almost worth it. - Update: I just changed my rating to a full five stars. I was waiting to see how long my henna would last and honestly. It is now completely worth the $30. I think the price was perfect. And considering that my henna stayed on for more than 2 week is astonishing. I have been washing and scrubbing my arm and hand and it's still very visible.
