Alright, this was my first time getting waxed ANYWHERE "down there," so this review is for first timers! Believe me, I was terrified. My friends had convinced me I was about to meet hell. I fully expected to cry, not out of fear, but as a raw, physiological reaction to what I was about to put my hoo-ha through. Well, I didn't cry. Actually, I laughed the entire time! And I was cursing my friends for making me sweat bullets the night before. Don't get me wrong, my first brazilian wasn't painless, but I think my first lip wax was worse? My lip wax made me tear up. My brazilian with Anita? No tears whatsoever. I'd read the raving reviews about Anita's magical, painless touch. I was pretty sure that magic wouldn't work on me because, well, I'm me. I'm not "like" the women who get waxed all the time. I don't know a thing about waxing. I certainly don't have years of built-up pain tolerance on my side. And I'm going for a brazilian?!? A brazilian, people! It was comical in my eyes. But lo and behold, I think some magic happened on that waxing table, because it wasn't THAT bad. Honestly. And Anita was so kind! She handled my nerves like a champ and explained everything she was doing in such a reassuring, calming way. I like going to beauty specialists and say, "Please do what you do best." I don't want to over think it because I'm not always clued in on the latest trends. It's been 5+ years I've been seeing Anita, and I know I'm in safe (minimal pain!) and exceptional (on-trend always) hands without question. Anita is so personable, thoughtful, and considerate of her clients. For instance, when I had a baby, she made sure I knew that it was a welcome place to bring my baby with me so I wouldn't have to find childcare just to get waxed. I mean...she gets it. TLDR; this might be the first time in my life that I love EVERYTHING about BOTH of my brows! My threading esthetician moved away and recommended Anita to me. I'd never had anything but threading prior to this appointment so I didn't know what to expect, so I booked a "brow design" from the menu for my first visit. Anita spent a few minutes studying my face and brows and talking to me about what I wanted for my feral COVID brows. I'd lost all semblance of eyebrow shape/form during WFH this past year, and my brows were an Einstein-y mess! In just a few minutes my brows (and face) were transformed! I'd asked for a natural look (thick as possible) with clean lines and that's exactly what I got. Anita is extremely detail oriented and she went over them several times to make sure they were completely tidied up, she even left a few individual hairs and instructed me to leave them as this is where growth needs to occur for an even better shape in the future. She used a combination of wax, tweezers and scissors and she did so without causing *any* pain/trauma to my skin. SUPER impressed by her expertise! Anita is a sweetheart and this place is a hidden gem! I've been getting brazilian's for about 5-6 years now, and it would be safe to say that I've tried about 12-18 places up to date. I've only been happy enough with 2 waxers to continue going back. My first love was Tracy at Hair Help in Potrero Hill, but she was too far away for me when I moved to the Davis/Sacramento area. It made it hard for me to come back. In Davis, I found my second love Angel at European Wax Center. She, was also too far for me once I moved back to San Francisco. It is safe to say that I found my third love, Anita at Above & Below! It's been a long time, and I have livingsocial to thank for this new found relationship. Since I left Angel at EWC, I have been hoping around from place to place. I've experienced decent places, but not AWESOME places for me to return to. Anita was accommodating with my schedule, and she was able to schedule me via text! What a convenience! Parking is easy; right in the back of this little center. Do not be fooled like I was; I thought that the back door was the entrance because it had a sign right there. Walk on over to the front, and you'll see the cute little reception area. When you go into the work area, its super cute and kept clean. It's always nerve racking when a place has good reviews, but you don't know who you'e going to get as your service provider. This is a one-woman-show, so Anita is the do it all girl! She does skin care along with waxing services. And apparently, something called sugaring, which I did not know about until my visit with her. She uses soft wax, and explained why it is better for Asian skin. She definitely pays attention to to detail, and will bust out the tweezers for what the wax can't pick up. I'm always a chicken when it comes to brazilians, but the pain was actually semi-bearable! What's even more amazing was the eye brow waxing! She spent so much time on them, even though I get them done regularly and tjhey did not need a lot of work. She also added some brow powder/color to it afterwards, so they would look nicer. AMAZING pampering experience. She charges $25 for first time brows, and $20 for upkeep. Her brazilians are I believe $45, and $39 for return visits. The way she builds up her client base is by giving them a great job, and not taking tip when they come back in 4-6 weeks! Is that not insane or what!? She said she'd much rather make it more affordable, and for them to return than to take the tip. Anita really enjoys what she does, and you can tell! As soon as I got out to the parking lot and into my car, I texted her to schedule my next appointment. So it's safe to say that I found my girl. In search no more! WHOOT WHOOT! read more

Thank the Lord I have found Anita Lo! After, what, 7 years of never getting my eyebrows waxed or shaped, you can imagine how much hair I unknowingly tweezed off and how weird my brows looked. Brows are everything to a person's face, so I finally decided to turn to my Yelpers for some help and I am so happy that i trusted Anita with my brows. She's fast, detailed (I'm sorry she has to get so close to my crotch but love the fact she takes tweezers out to complete the job), and friendly while being professional. I struggle to remember the name of her business because it's really just her doing everything. One woman show, so you're guaranteed consistent quality each time! I am very picky with waxing and know how un comfortable a Brazilian can be. I moved to the area 7 months ago and can you believe I've procrastinated this long to find someone to do my eyebrows?! Disgraceful! I finally started researching everybody in the area on Yelp with the keyword "eyebrows." (Pro tip: Do that kind of search on a desktop/laptop rather than a mobile phone because it will let you search within reviews.) There are a lot of great reviews in the area, but Anita seemed to stand out among Yelpers. I also was impressed with how easy it was to book an appointment through her website. I would much rather choose a date and book on my own than call someone up. I love that. Anyway, I went on Friday, and Anita is everything everyone is saying. She took care to ask me if I wanted to keep the fullness I have in my eyebrows (which I did) or if I wanted them to be thin (which I didn't). She had a very gentle way with the wax and the plucking. A&B is practically down the street from my house and for the life of me I couldn't figure why I hadn't found it on Yelp before. Then Anita tells me she opened last Oct and then it all became clear - last Oct was around the last time I got a Brazilian/looked for an aesthetician. It is now June. Yeah. Anyway, the place is a little gem. It's neat, orderly, all the equipment looks very new, and most importantly, it's CLEAN. Anita herself is awesome--she'll put you right at ease and she's extremely knowledgeable about her trade (tip: ask her how to prevent ingrown hairs, it makes SO MUCH SENSE). Surprisingly, Anita doesn't accept tip for Brazilian waxing services...she can explain why. But that makes her rates super reasonable, considering she uses excellent products and procedures. I drove out to Belmont from Daly City because of the Yelp reviews. It was well worth it! The location is small, cute, and CLEAN. It's decorated in soothing colors, has soft music, and simple pieces of art. The waxing room itself is clean and Anita changes the paper in front of you. it is not easy to get undressed and let just anyone wax your parts. Anita makes you feel comfortable and has a little TV playing to distract you from the pain. Also she has two different types of waxes she selects from based on your skin and hair type. I love this option since most places only have one type of wax available. You can also request the type of wax if you're used to one or the other. She also puts pressure on the area she just waxed which helps reduce the pain. I'm not sure why every aesthetician doesn't do this!!! The only thing I would suggest for improvements is providing something to freshen up before she gets started. When I first came here she made appointments by phone and via text message. So convenient! I have a lot of trouble remembering and finding time during working hours to call and make appointments. Text makes it so much easier and faster for me. When I went to schedule my next appointment she now has a website up that is super easy to use and schedule appointments. If those times don't work for you she can customize time slots for you. I also love that she is open later into the evening. Since I work in Oakland, it is really hard to find places that are open past 5:00pm! Her services are very very well priced! Great service and good price seems to be a rarity these days. Came here for the second time and this time not only for a wax but also for a facial. Anita is very meticulous, does a thorough job on the wax and the facial was just a little time in heaven. During the facial you lay very comfortable with covers on you and a thing under your knees so you lay comfortable. She only talks to you when necessary so you can relax when she is doing the facial. The massage was so good! This was the first time I ever left a salon after a facial with my hair NOT all greasy and messed up! Pro: Really fast job. Great lady, very nice and funny. The place was very clean and private. She made me feel extremely comfortable. Also pretty cheap in comparison to other places! Con: She used big wax strips so it hurt a lot, but i guess you can debate if you'd rather have long duration pain or short duration pain.
