Went on a Sunday afternoon and it was just the two of us and the homeless guy inside. Not a great first impression but I learned quickly that Savannah has a homeless problem. The girl behind the counter was ok and I asked for 2 pepperoni slices. There was 1 pepperoni slice visible and a cheese pizza next to it. I thought she could throw a few pepperoni on the cheese slice and heat it up but no dice so 1 cheese and 1 pepperoni. The pizza had obviously been sitting for quite some time and tasted like it. I also read the reviews about giant slices and these were very average size. Inside had an unclean feeling to it and was very bland and old. The $4 slices were worth more like $1.50 We'll find somewhere else next time. read more

The pizza is amazing here taste like New York pizza!! But the men in there are very creepy and unhygienic, talking about fighting someone and getting to close to me.The place was dirty and had an interesting smell. Kay's Pizza was one of the only restaurants open when we ended a ghost tour around 10:30 on a Saturday night and needed a snack/late dinner. There was a line to get in, and the process was quick and easy - order at the counter, receive a slice and pay and the end of the line. The slices were enormous -- so long that they don't fit on a paper plate and need to be folder over, which is how it was served. I think it was over $6 for a slice, which seemed on the high side for such a thin crust, but the pizza was decent, especially since we were hungry. I'd return in a pinch, but there's so much good food in the area that I wouldn't necessarily seek out the pizza. read more

Open super late! In Savannah it is a MUST to find food late. I just don't understand the low ratings here. We came close to 1am. Their pizzas are some of the biggest I've ever seen. HUGE! They have a small drink case, and a station by the exit door to get your peppers, Parmesan and napkins. Bouncer was extremely disrespectful and racist towards us tonight. My husband came to meet me to pay for our pizza and the bouncer "security" made racial slurs to him and would not allow him in. Kay's was formerly Sweet Mellisa's, which I'm not going to lie...was some pretty bad pizza. It tasted like greasy nothing. I reviewed it on Yelp ten years ago and gave it a 2 and compared it to Chucky Cheese Pizza. Kay's is not as offensive as Sweet Melissa's, but it's not good. It's very okay. That is it. It won't knock your socks off, but it's still pizza and it tastes just okay for $3 a slice. Where do I put it? It's like a step better than Little Caesars. Domino's, Pizza Hut, or Papa Johns could definitely beat Kay's. It's really cheap pizza with cheap ingredients so keep your expectations low. You'll look like a d***head, but safety first. The pizza is large and the people who work here seem cool, but the taste is average and the pizza is insanely overpriced. I was torn on the star level; I give it a 3.5 and rounded up to four. The standout for this place is the herb infused crust. It really is tasty. Unfortunately the rest of the pizza is pretty floppy and greasy. We ordered to go at the store since it was pretty packed with the late night crowd. The team moved people through quickly since they have a limited late night menu of cheese or pepperoni which is very smart considering the volume of customers. I'd like to give it another shot in the daytime with a more customized pizza, but I'm not sure it would matter much since I saw the pizza we ordered was fresh out of the oven. Always a reliable place for a late night pizza bite. When all food establishments are closed... Kay's is open. Their pizza is delicious and affordable. We have been here many over the years as we visit Savannah at least once a year. Last night they only had cheese and pepperoni available and was delicious. The service provided by this short, brunette was unreal ... before we stepped back into time of this small throwback greasy pizza joint this girl was slamming pizza pans yelling to herself profanities and we at first opted to not order...but after one of our party sought to seek out info regarding the lunch special ... she was able to summon a more pleasant attitude so we took the bait. The special 2 slices and a soda for $8.00. Great deal ... we asked for 3 specials with cheese slices... at the time we ordered we were the only customers there . She threw up on top of the counter nothing but Pepperoni .. when we corrected her- immediately she went into a tirade and started yelling that she didn't appreciate out f'n attitude ! We asked about the soda as she pointed to the machine and yelled there it is dumb " ass" ... which we could see but there were no cups ... as the line started to grow the situation escalated and I was ready to dive for cover. Once known as Sweet Melissa's, Kay's Pizza was the highlight of my weekend in Savannah. After a serious recommendation from a waitress the previous night, I made sure to stumble in...literally...before a drunken ghost tour I planned around the Riverfront. I figured a nice cheesy slice was a good base for some heavy drinking. Boy was I right! Slices are wide and thin. Definitely a classic NY Foldable crust, just with a special surprise underneath. I say special surprise because when you first fold that baby, you're greeted by flakes of fresh oregano, parsley and rosemary. Had me moaning "Yass Honey!" Forget the traditional corn meal, here at Kay's, they literally infuse the crust with fresh herbs. Very nice touch! One slice is a huge portion but you'll be tempted for a second once you inhale the first because yes, you will literally inhale it. My drinking partner described it perfectly by screaming "I want it ALL UP in my face!" If you arrive before 9 p.m. they serve a wider variety of slices like veggie or meat lovers. They switch to classic pepperoni and cheese slices once the drunk crowd rolls in after 11 p.m. I would know first hand, since I stumbled in TWICE in one night.
