We were in town for a ski weekend at Sugar Mountain and found this Sunday brunch gem. It was about 6 miles from the condo and totally worth it. Delicious brunch buffet with made to order pancakes, French toast, eggs, and omelettes. Everything was very fresh and the staff was extremely friendly. We loved the buffet chef! I was excited to try this place out but we went on a Saturday for breakfast and it was buffet only. I don't eat meat and eggs so my choices were limited. It's great if you plan to eat your money's worth. The staff were great! My husband enjoyed the buffet. Good coffee! Pre-COVID I would give a better rating. Two of us came for dinner recently... obviously they are hurting for staff as they only had one server and another person helping out. They were not too terribly busy but still took about 15 minutes to get seated ( only ones waiting) and get a menu. Service was quick for taking order and getting drinks but then this is where the real wait happened. It took just over an hour to receive our food and then the food was just ok. The menu for dinner is somewhat limited to a couple of appetizers, salad and then all higher priced entrees like Grilled Salmon, Jumbo Shrimp, Chicken Marsala starting at $15.95+... I was not really impressed with the food for the price. The vegetable medley was bland and tasteless and reminded me of frozen food (didn't seem fresh and my green beans were two totally different colors of green) and my Chicken was slightly overcooked. The table next to us was raving about their food, perhaps we ordered the wrong dinner items or maybe the kitchen was struggling. It's rare that I leave a restaurant let down but I was this evening unfortunately. The wait was ok and not why I'm leaving my rating, as we know times are hard on businesses right now with staff but rating is centered around the food. I was hoping for much better for a $45 meal. I believe a little more varied dinner menu with some mid-range options would be better for this nice quaint cafe in Newland. We will be back to try breakfast /lunch as this seems to be where they shine. read more

What a great find in the NC mountains. Food was excellent at very reasonable prices. Staff was very friendly and accommodating with smiles on their faces. We had the Patriot sandwich which was piled high with oven roasted carved Turkey and cranberry Mayo... Also shared the breakfast buffet and let me tell you it was not like the one at Golden Corral... Everything was made from scratch and fresh, including the omelette station.. Highly recommend you don't pass this place by when driving through Newland, you won't be disappointed. read more

My partner and I were in town for a wedding this weekend. We happened to find Kaye's here on Yelp and decided to try it out on Saturday right before lunch. We were seated and the server told us that the only option on Saturday's is the all you can eat breakfast buffet. We were satisfied with that and so we stayed. They had a station manned by a cook where you could get pancakes, French toast, eggs cooked your way, a d omelettes. I got an omelette with a bunch of toppings. They also had breakfast meats, cheesy hash brown casserole, grits, and biscuits & gravy. The hash brown casserole was delicious, I got 2 servings. The grits needed to be cooked more but had good flavor, they were just a little crunchy. They also had a fruit salad with a combination of fresh and canned fruit together. I would definitely eat here again, the staff were appreciative of our patronage and appeared there were several locals in there as well. The Sunday Brunch is both reasonable, and really good. Kaye and her Husband are always there on Sunday and a hoot yo chat up about great places to visit in the area. When you are in the area during the week, the evening menu changes and the selections are really good - great staff and coffee selections. What a small treasure! We struggled to hold a cell signal long enough to find a lunch spot. Kaye's Kitchen proved to be far better than expected. We just hoped for something better than fast food, but I found a gourmet sandwich! I selected the Tuscany and asked them to substitute the smoked turkey for regular roasted. It was topped with spinach, artichoke, melted provolone, fresh tomato and basil and grilled lightly on ciabatta bread. I ordered fried sweet potatoes as my side and they were light, crispy waffle fries - Served with cinnamon and sugar and honey on the side! Sooooo good! Hubs had Chicken Caesar And Herb Seasoned grilled chicken on his choice of wrap (he picked spinach). He said it was "five star" and I have to agree! He chose the daily veg special (green beans) and they were delicious, too. It seemed many of the patrons were locals and several were enjoying the daily special- fried chicken or country fried steak with a generous portion of what looked to me like lumpy mashed potatoes like my mom made, with gravy!
