    Daikon/red radish and Olena sauerkraut
    Norm L.

Stopped by to check out this new shop, and picked up a few fermented veggies. Super friendly and the sales person let us sample a bunch of the veggies, they were all good and we settled on the Olena kraut which contains cabbage, pineapple, turmeric, ginger and sea salt, and the daikon and red radish with basil and chunks of garlic. Everyone enjoyed it with our plate lunches from Mark's, would definitely go back.

I look forward to this one because it's one of the bigger, more established farmers market. A few years back, I think it was located at the parking lot of the community college itself with more food trucks. The vendors are friendly & most give out samples. I am more inclined to purchase if the vendor is generous with samples (hint hint wink wink) Of note, it's in a grassy area & can get pretty murky/muddy after a rain. Parking is where you can find it at the park. There's of course fresh fruits & vegetables in season, cooked foods (Filipino, Thai, Korean & much more). The one that stood out was the Honey (Yellow) watermelon-- the vendor was all smiles & offered generous samples of the fruit. Oh my, my, my!! It was so sweet, crisp & mouthwateringly delicious! I couldn't pass it up. The sticker price was by size & I asked the vendor to pick a good one for me-- Yokes! $14 Wowzah. That's the most I have ever paid for any watermelon EVER. This had better me a life-changing delicious pick hahaha. We shall see. I was planning on getting my veggies here for my Sinigang (Filipino sour soup): got Ongchoy (kang-kong), okra & small taro--it is called gabi in Tagalog & gandus in Kapampangan. I love gandus coz is definitely creamier in texture compared to the big taro that is used for making poi. I always look forward to visiting this farmers market but sometimes we're not in the area when it is here. I was fortunate to have visited this time. UPDATE: the honey watermelon was sooooo worth it. Come & try!

Which is pretty cool. Must have a big population of them here. To my surprise they also had a huge section of Japanese products which included a Don Quote section. Really nice. I was looking for my vitamin gel but they didn't have it. I always get that in Japan. We got two different pokes here. One previously frozen and the other the guy said was fresh. They were just ok. Not as fresh as what we had for lunch at one of the country clubs at the golf course. No biggy. More places to eat at. Always worth a look since they have so much stuff. If you are BBQ or cooking at your timeshare this is the place to go. They staff are really friendly. They thought we were locals heheh. We get mistaken a lot for it.

Should have done more research before coming here…read more Grocery poke is surprisingly good in Hawaii, so tried to find the nearest supermarket near our hotel in Kauai. Our lunch on Day 3 had been a bust, so decided to eat in more and get needed supplies. I knew that Safeway was affiliated with Albertson's, which I THOUGHT owned Foodland (which has great poke)...so came here and bought other stuff (cause we were already there). Later found out that my assumption was incorrect. The employees here are tired of tourists, I think. The woman at the seafood counter (which has a small poke section), acted like she was doing me a favor when I asked for the rest of the fresh hawaiian style poke. When I asked how good the from-frozen ahi poke was, she mumbled something unintelligible. Cashiers don't have to be friendly but should be at least respectful, and appear as if trying The lane was open, so it wasn't too busy. She barely acknowledged us but did scan each item without being asked (and we were self self bagging). But then there was a pause to push the process to start the payment process. Then another long pause after I had entered my credit card. Then another pause to print receipt. Then finally after printing, she grabbed the receipt without looking at it and just stuck out her hand AT me to grab without looking at me. The last two actions were happening while she was having a funny (to her) conversation with a co-worker. Not good when two employees together are acting like this without shame. A part of me wanted to lightly slap her receipt-holding hand and tell her "Didn't your mama teach you manners?". Purchases: -- 2 bagels ($1.19 each) -- small Lucerne milk ($2.89) -- small cream cheese ($5.99) -- fresh (not frozen) ahi tuna ($29.99 per pound, paying $21.29). -- six pack can of Maui Brew Mango Beer ($14.99 with Dep fee of $0.30 -- PB Blondie Bestie ice cream from Ben and Jerry, pint for $4.99 (normally $8.99 but on sale so very good price...needed to download the Safeway app since my Von's or Albertson's card doesn't work...had good free wi-fi in store).
