Shop owner had trouble resolving repeated tube failures all after less than five miles of bike path riding. Tried a new tube twice, added a liner and a new tube on the third occasion and switched to a super tube for the fourth. That failed at five miles. Finally they decided the valve hole was a bit rough. One might think they'd stand behind their work, but no, full price and labor. I'm regretting buying my wife a new bike from them and a keiki trailer as well. I mistook their enthusiasm for competence, and their smiles for fair customer service. As I left the owner boasted that all tubes can blow out after just a few miles. Fortunately my other three bikes were safely a few blocks away and their old tubes didn't hear. read more

I had an above and beyond experience at Kauai Cycle! From the first call and subsequent face to face contact with both staff and owner, I was met with upfront honesty and helpful added advice, all with aloha. Then, when an order went awry (no fault of Kauai Cycle, but an error on the part of the supplier, who normally is reliable), the owner himself took the shaft instead of shafting me. Kauai Cycle rocks!! The crew headed up by Jason Barth knows what they are doing. I rented one of their 3 speed Fuji cruiser bikes for a week and that bike was set up perfectly. It had freshly changed tires, the basket was mounted extra heavy duty, and it was tuned just right. Brian, Bruce, and the rest of their crew are very helpful. We did our research prior to renting bikes here, and we're glad we did. My husband and I ended up with top of the line full suspension mountain bikes (ones that we normally swoon over because they're so pricey and pretty) and detailed instructions on places to break them in. Close to the bike path and other attractions, it was convenient and easy to rent. We loved them so much, we kept them for another day. Prices are cheap and insight is helpful. Great shop! read more

Super bummed! Just rented bikes here on Friday and about a mile out from getting back to the shop the bike broke. Had to walk it back. When we returned the clerk just said "you got the one in 100". No sorry, no refund, no acknowledgment at all. Basically "don't let the door hit ya on the way out". Not cool guys. I know we r just stupid tourists, but really? So disappointed. read more

If you're looking to rent a top-shelf roadbike, this is the place. For my ride up Waimea canyon I was able to pick up a 56 cm Specialized Venge. Alternatively, there was a 55 cm Roubaix available as wellZ I couldn't have asked for more. Great people, great shop. My wife and I rented 3-speed bikes, $10 each for 4 hours. This place gets the full 5 stars because the bike path basically starts behind this place so the location is excellent. I recommend the 3 speed bike because there are some slight inclines on the path and the low gear makes it super easy. read more

5 stars. Johnny helped us out and we had an awesome day. We rented two 29ers FSR bikes that were expertly setup plus helmets for $120. Johnny recommended a trail inland from Koloa that was fantastic. If you've done a bit of MTB then this must be the best day and the best deal in Kauai. This store is easy to find and the people are great. I can't recommend this too highly. For some reason the hotels don't promote this sort of thing but the trail we went on was safe and so different from the mainland. read more

These guys did a fantastic job renting us bikes. Duh hand you a bike right? No, they fitted the bikes to us, made sure they were working perfectly and then pointed us to the best local MTB trails. On top of that they were really friendly and helpful. The trails were nothing amazing for trails, but the views were awesome and we had a great time. Rented two bikes today. They were excellent well maintained cruisers just perfect for riding the 10 mile bike path in Kapaa. The staff is very professional as they are a Specialized Bike Dealer. We paid 20$ for two bikes for 4 hrs. Maybe a bit more than others in the area but the bikes were perfectly set up and in great condition. Includes helmet if you wish, lock and basket on front. We'll definitely use them again while we're here. read more

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I go to Kauai a few times a year for a couple decades now. If it is a short stay I rent from them. If longer stay (5 or more weeks) I buy from them. Great road bikes but turned out one could have used a closer inspection as it had a flat. Service was awesome. They quickly offered a refund on the one bike for the time lost on changing out the flat. I highly recommend stopping here at the very beginning of the trail if coming from the south of Kauai. read more

I made a one day bike rental here. This place was actually a recommendation from another bike rental place that didn't have a good selection of bikes. For $30 I got a Specialized hybrid bike, a helmet and a lock. The guys at the shop were friendly and helpful. They tuned & adjusted everything and gave me great tips on where to ride. The equipment performed well and their recommendations on where to ride were spot on. I'll rent from them again on my next trip to Kauai. read more

Great spot for rentals and local knowledge. At home in Montana, am used to gnarly single track riding and zero traffic. Needless to say I wasn't interested in a leisurely beach cruise on a paved path packed with Sunday riders. The techs at Kauai Cycle set me up with a capable full suspension Specialized and directed me to some off-the-map trails. The rides were fantastic, the views were spectacular, and we only had to dodge cruisers for a few miles. The bikes were older but well maintained and performed admirably. I'll be heading back to Kauai Cycle if I'm eve lucky enough to to get back to the Garden Island. read more

Great experience. My friends and I wanted to rent beach cruises for Sunday, but we couldn't find any shops that were open that day. This place offered the bikes to us on Saturday (mid-morning) and we had them til 10 am Monday morning all for the one day rate. They were the cheapest rental place we found for the 3-speed cruisers. Friendly staff and owner but if you rent a road bike and are serious about riding, look elsewhere. I got my specialized allez bike and the mechanic was nice enough to cleaned up the drivetrain but the STI shifter hood and handlebar tape was pretty dirty. After coming back to the hotel, I cleaned it up using baby wipes! The bike came with a flip adjustable seatpost clamp which had a hard time holding the seatpost, resulting in a constantly slipping post. You may want them to change it to a bolt style clamp. read more

As an annual visitor to Kauai, I have also been an annual customer of Jason and his colleagues at Kauai Cycle for a number of years. They are absolutely the go-to bike store on the Island and an excellent place to rent very well-maintained bicycles while you are on Kauai. They rent both road bikes (Trek aluminum with Shimano components) and mountain bikes, and will mount your pedals if you bring your own pedals & shoes. Everyone at the shop is friendly and helpful with suggestions about good rides. If you are looking for a cheap coaster bike to pedal along the beach, this is probably not your place. If you are looking for good, reliable equipment with which to enjoy the many good rides on the Island, this is your place. read more

This WAS the go to place for well maintained mountain bike rentals. Note the past tense. We have been coming to Kauai for decades and HAD great service from Kauai cycle through multiple location changes but after 2 separate incidents, no more. It all comes down to who gets to the counter first. Don't stop to look at the bikes, don't choose ahead of time because they will give a good bike to a daily renter and the crap to the weekly renter if they are in line first. It takes years to build a loyal customer and mere seconds to lose one. read more
