All i brought with me were my swim fins and an extra bicep leash I had. I was looking for a legit bodyboard rental and the shops I had been to and/or the beach side rental shacks had boards that just werent up to par. I was down the road at Tamba buying tees and the guy there (thankfully) referred me to Kapaa Beach Shop when I asked if he knew of any places that had quality bodyboard rentals. He told me Mike at KBS rented Mike Stewart Science Bodyboards.... The look of shock on my face was probably photo worthy. I couldnt believe the type of place I had been looking for was just down the road. It was already my 2nd time in Kapaa by that point. Kapaa Beach Shop is on your right side along Kuhio Highway if you are coming from the Lihue area. It's right after Chicken in a Barrel BBQ. It has about 4 dedicated spaces out front in its gravel driveway. They rent everything from beach umbrellas, chairs, bicycles, diving and snorkeling gear... You name it. You need it for the beach, he has it. It was jamming with customers the both times I went there but Mike was gracious and helpful with all of us. I was able to rent a hybrid Mike Stewart Science bodyboard which I used at a few beaches on the island. It was great. Thick board with lots of float to it, making catching waves easier. It also came with a Gyroll bicep leash... It was like a setup I would gladly have every day back home. I'm thankful to Mike for the Aloha and just being super cool in providing a quality rental. We chatted it up a bit and you can tell he is legit and really knows his stuff. I HIGHLY recommend you go see Mike at Kapaa Beach Shop for all your beach rental needs. He is the man. Mahalos Mike! I booked through rentalcars.com and was quoted $138 for the week including taxes and fees. Get…read moreshuttled to what we thought was Fox and dropped off at some shady looking office with one desk and a bunch of beach chairs stacked against the wall. I didn't even think we were brought to the right place until I saw the small Fox sign. I'm told by the lady helping us that I need to show proof of insurance. I call my provider but I don't meet the rental company's requirements to use my own insurance. I will need to pay an additional $38 a day for their insurance. Fortunately my boyfriend had adequate insurance but his policy did not cover their "loss of use" fee - so $8.95 per day was charged. Since we were changing the primary driver to my boyfriend (because they can only use the insurance belonging to the primary) they had me cancel my reservation with rentalcars.com so they could rebook the car through their systems under the boyfriends name. The whole process took about 1.5 hours and by the time the final bill came (to $279) we were so ready to get out of there we just signed and left. I was also so concerned about being charged their $200 cleaning fee that I stopped at a gas station before turning the car in to vacuum up any dirt we tracked in. The whole experience was just frustrating. I've rented several cars in Hawaii and never had the insurance requirements be so strict. It felt slimy.

On top of that, I paid $10 per person to play, and the guy in the hut tells me there's only 6 or 7 holes available since they use the course to pop fireworks off of. New years was about a week ago!! You're telling me, you're too lazy to put back the holes for a whole week?! Cmon man..... Then, I ask for a cart to put all our stuff in and he tells me that they don't rent out carts but that I could get one at the golf hut. So my mom walks all the way over to the golf hut for them to tell her that they don't rent out golf carts for soccer golf......?! So then after all of this, the guy in the outpost hut tells me he will refund me the balls we rented as a way to make up the unfinished course and the time we had to wait for the balls to come back. That was nice of them.....except for the fact that he didn't do it!!! He was straight up lying. Bc i kept checking my account and I didn't see no refund pending from them.... So I waited 2-3 days then I finally call them back checking up on the refund. Explain the whole thing and I'm pretty sure the guy who answered the phone was the same guy who told me he would refund it to me the day of my reservation! So he puts me on hold and tells me that a manager has to be the one to refund me. So why did that guy in the outpost hut tell me he was refunding me if he really wasn't?!?! To top it all off, the course looks like crap. And they don't even have a score card to give you. Good thing I took a picture of their somewhat course layout so I knew where the heck I was going. The course is literally just grass that is so overgrown and bumpy that you cannot even call it foot golf. Save yourself time and don't go here.

Decided to get a "less cool", non mountain bike, grandpa cruiser bike, in hopes the bike thieves will leave this bike alone. Briggs hooked us up with a great looking grandpa cruiser since we mostly ride down the 7 mile east side beach front bike path. Briggs also rents bikes if you are on vacation and want to ride down the bike path. Briggs also services and does maintenance on our bikes when needed. He just replaced the chain and cables on my beach cruiser.
