DeStash Hawaii - Beautiful vintage Hawaiian holokū

I've been following DeStash Hawaii on Instagram for a while now but haven't been able to visit…read moreuntil my recent Oahu trip and boy was it worth the wait. I've been a Vintage Mu'u collector for 10-15+ years and I was super excited to see their selection of Vintage Mu'u! I took a Lyft to get to South Street from Ala Moana and I was dropped off across the street so I was a bit disoriented at first lol. I had to make sure I was walking in the right direction since there wasn't a big flashy sign. I love the humble lit up sign that said "Alterations" in the window and once I saw a mannequin in window dressed with beautiful Vintage Mu'u, I knew I hit the vintage jackpot lol! It was an adorable store with vintage Knick knacks, accessories, jewelry in glass cases, an alteration station with fabric as you walk through the door, then another section filled with racks of Vintage Mu'u of every size, along with Tops, Palaka Shorts and I also noticed some Outerwear too. I was so excited that I hit the ground running and checked out every rack with my size and collected a good 8-10 or so Mu'u to try on. (I mean I am from Maui so I can't frequent this place much lol!) There were 2 humble dressing rooms with a small basket in the corner for your shoes and belongings. I loved the selection and most of all: the prices. They had vintage 80's-90's to maybe 60's-70's. I did see some rare vintage priced at $150-200+ but for the most part, reasonably priced for carefully curated vintage. I found 3 Mu'u at the end of my Vintage Haul. I scored a Black and Red Manuheali'i Dress (which aunty said everyone adored when it came in so that was definitely a score!) for $110 and 2 other Mu'u's, one was a Made in Hawaii with front bib detail in a cream color for maybe $40 and another Blue Andrade Mu'u for $45. This was definitely worth coming down from Maui. I will definitely be back on my next Oahu trip! The Aunty Owner and her daughter were the sweetest!

If you want an Aloha shirt, and a somewhat authentic one or even retro one, you should come here,…read morebut you should know what you are getting yourself in for. The walk from the Waikiki hotels is only about 10-15 minutes. On the strip in Waikiki you'll see a lot of places that will charge you Hawaii tourist prices for shirts - only some of which are decent. At Bailey's you'll definitely see what you want, and new or used, you might even come away with some money left over in your wallet for the next exorbitant meal. If you come in expecting space to be able to stand back and have a good look at the many, many shirts they have, well, there just isn't any. And if you want access to a dressing room, chances are you won't get that either. There is a single dressing room, and pretty much everyone goes in there with the 10-15 shirts they just picked out because they know it is the only access they will have to it (because everyone else has been in there doing the same thing, or waiting for their turn with a stack of shirts). But you'll find shirts, and ones that you like. You could pay anywhere from $10-$15 for a cheaper used one, most of the decent quality used ones are in the $25-$30 range, and then you can find some new Reyn Spooner types that might be up to $120. They have other stuff as well, but I think the majority of people probably go here to get Aloha shirts. This is very much a thrift store vibe, so if that ain't your jam, this place probably isn't for you. But it's an institution. It would be 5 stars for me, but I think it was important for clarity to take off one star just because it is an overwhelming number of shirts in a supremely confined space. My arms hurt from dragging shirts on hangers and holding the others back to try to look at them. The lady behind the counter is nice.

If you're serious about finding an aloha shirt you think you'll wear when you get back home, you…read moremight be looking for something that doesn't exist. You can find aloha shirts just about anywhere on Oahu, whether at expensive boutiques in Waikiki or in the nearest ABC store. However, the visual appeal of the shirt depends completely the eye of the beholder. With that in mind, there probably isn't any other store on the island that offers a broader selection. It's pretty overwhelming. The drawback is that the massive inventory is packed in a retail space so constrained that it can be a challenge to navigate. It took me a while to realize the shirts on the central racks are the priciest, some costing hundreds and (gasp) even thousands of dollars. There are used shirts along the wall that sell as low as $9. I wasn't particularly clear on the difference in quality, but I'll give you one guess which racks I was rifling through. They have so many brands, including Kaweko and Pilot along with several ink colors. I ended up walking out with a Pilot Kakuno with a Fine nib and a Pilot Iroshizuku ink in Hana-Ikada (which I use religiously now!) I also was looking for the 2027 Hobonichi's in store but unfortunately they only carry Hon (both sizes) in store. It was great to see things and be able to feel them before purchasing! A lovely little spot with a great variety. Will definitely come back!

All curated for those with an eye of minimalism and simplicity. The prices here are fair as I feel that the quality really exceeds the average patron. I purchased a water bottle that has traversed the United States with me and has done well. A few incenses that smelled amazing and a few other items. The guy at the cash register was super friendly too. We had a small talk about mid century modern vibes and it was great to speak to someone that had a real good sense of the vibe I was trying to aim for.

First and foremost, SHOUTOUT TO TITA ARACELI!! The sweetest, most helpful, and real staff member…read moreout there. I came here with a specific design in mind. Most of the shirts here are customized 88 Tee shirts. However, there were also other designs like Snoopy, Punisher, etc. The shirts are organized and categorized by size and each size has a HUGE variety of designs so you really gotta lift the shirts to open and see them. Aside from T-shirts, they have hats, button-up shirts, crop tees, shorts, everything, no matter the size, newborn or adult. The part that shocked me was that I was willing to settle for an oversized male t-shirt. Then, Tita Araceli came up to me without me asking and advised I make it off the shoulder WHICH I did want but didn't know they do it for you, FOR FREE!!! They use their special sharp Japanese scissors from Japan, literally in a special box lmao. She wasn't making ghetto cuts on the shirt. She legit knew what she was doing, stretching the shirt a certain way to get the aesthetic roll-ups, cut it a certain way. I honestly was going to do it myself but I'm so happy Tita Araceli did it!! IF YOU WANT OFF THE SHOULDER, YOU CAN ASK AND NO CHARGER :) I even tried to tip her and she didn't want it, she was just genuinely trying to help. The t-shirt I got was $31. I'm tempted to go back already.

We were greeted with smiles and willingness to help.
