Had my first visit to Kati Roll Wala located inside of Lyric Hall. They offer a wide variety of Indian inspired wraps and protein bowls. All of the food we tasted were very well seasoned and the indian flavors were prominent. My two favorite items were the chicken Tikka kati rolll and the Peri Peri fries. They both had a nice spicy kick that wasn't over powering. The food came out quickly and our server was very pleasant and asked about any possible allergies which is always nice to see . The location inside of Lyric Hall was also fantastic. The atmosphere is very casual and there was plenty of seating available.

Kati Roll Wala - paneer protein bowl

Stopped at the Kati Roll Wala, a part of the food court in the Lyric Market in downtown opposite the Worthom theater. This place has westernized Indian street food including samosa chat. Took awhile to decide what I wanted to eat, finally settled for a Paneer protein bowl. It came with a base of basmati rice or lettuce for the ultra diet conscious. I chose rice, for protein it was paneer, with a dash of all vegetable options they had except onion. For drinks it was mango lassi. I was very hungry and was wondering how long it would take but the buzzer buzzed in about 5 min and the food was ready. It came hot and looked inviting enough. The presentation justified the taste, it was really good. So also the lassi, yum... Am glad it was open on a Sunday, or would have had to watch a 3 hour performance on an almost empty stomach and am not a sane person to be around when am hungry.... :) The girls that work there so very friendly and patient and explained about every dish we asked. They knew what they were doing because they used the authentic Indian name for the spice. The food court itself us maintained very clean. Overall, a great food experience, can't wait to go back to enjoy more items on the menu.

I stopped by Kati Roll Wala at Lyric Market before a theater performance, looking for something quick to eat. The Chicken Tikka Bowl was reasonably priced and prepared quickly, which was convenient. While I enjoyed the chaat-style seasonings, the dish itself wasn't particularly impressive. It was filling, but nothing out of the ordinary. It served its purpose as a quick bite, but the flavors were just okay.

Located in Lyric Market, this Indian restaurant offers various types of roti, an Indian flatbread and other dishes. They have samosas, bowls, and roti. I was able to order from my table and have it received at my table which was a great option, they also accept apple pay through the QR code ordering. I ordered the egg roti and chicken roti both spicy. And they were actually spicy! The roti was rolled outside of the egg and it was tasty. I really enjoyed it, it was my first time having roti. The chicken was also great, nicely seasoned, spicy, and had sliced onions and cilantro in the roll as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, I could've just had one but got greedy. It is served with a tangy sauce, I wasn't too sure of what it was but it definitely compliments the roti. I also got a serving of a small round Indian dessert, it was like a fried dough ball soaked in a sugar syrup, it was a nice touch.

I tried out Kati Roll Wala in Lyric Market. It's one of the many restaurants in the food court there. I had the chicken kati roll, and I got an egg added in the kati roll. Overall, it was ok but not something I would go to Kati Roll again for. The roll was a bit dry, the sauces they provided added flavor, but it wasn't enough.

I've been to lyric food hall before and I wasnt super impressed. I figured I'd give it a second try since this is the closest dinning option from work. I ordered the cilantro chicken bowl and I thought it was pretty good. I thought the service was nice and friendly. The food came out fast and the bowl was big! I will def be ordering from this place again.

Cilantro Chicken Roll & Masala Fries

So this is my first time trying Indian cuisine! I wanted to be adventurous with my food this year because I grew up a chicken tender kid! So so very glad I chose this place because guys....it's two men with God-given ability to season the f*** out of some chicken. For an institution that had the square footage of a walk-in closet, the two men working that day were cooking up some HUGE flavors (I forgot to ask for their names, so whoever was working 10th of August, Mr./Mrs. Manager, shout them out!!!). Anyway, I got the Cilantro Chicken Roll with Masala Fries. The chicken was seasoned to perfection, it was cooked to perfection, everything was perfect man....a blend of spices I was trying to replicate when I got home that same day. The fries were crispy and I loved the seasonings on that item as well. This location is found inside Lyric Market, a food hall in downtown Houston. I loved the interior of the space as it was very light and inviting (in the area where I ate) and it had plenty of seating. I want to highlight their customer service as well; I remember coming to them about 5 minutes after my order was placed to ask for extra crispy fries and man they still delivered! I love it when these guys go above and beyond because I definitely would've been ok if it was too late and they had to say no. All I gotta say is, this spot is FOR SURE gonna be a regular go-to for me! So guys, if you're into cuisines that don't hold back on their spices like Hispanic and Asian foods, I'd take a crack at this spot! They are super friendly with some MEAN food ("mean" is meant to be seen as a compliment :D).

    Indian coffee and mango lassi

I've already been back here 3 times to get their paneer Kathi roll with the egg base, an Indian coffee and a mango lassi! The Kathi roll is basically like a wrap and the egg base is like a thin omelette layer in it. You can do vegetarian or non veg. If you ask them to make it spicy they can add chili powder to the wrap to give it a kick! The sauces that come with the Kathi rolls are sooo good with the paneer. Borderline addictive. The Indian coffee comes from a machine which isn't how it's traditionally made but it's somehow perfect. Add sugar as needed and it's so good. The mango lassi also has a perfect level of sweetness and tang. Fast and friendly service and I love that it's a quick walk from my downtown office. The space is in a food hall called Lyric Market and I would say it's definitely my top choice so far out of the restaurants Lyric offers. :) I may be a bit biased since I'm Indian and love Kathi rolls.

Our server was super accommodating, kind, and knowledgeable about the menu as well. Cocktails: 8/10 - The watermelon one was really good and not too sweet. The other wasn't my cup of tea; it tasted like a healthy ginger shot or some kind of wellness drink. Crispy kale: 12/10 - I've had it twice now and it never disappoints. You'll like this even if you don't like kale. It has a toasty crunch, and you have to eat it inside out since the potato pancake-like layer is in the middle. Mixed with the kale and sauces, it's divine! Oysters: 8/10 - The curry sauce is really good and a unique take, but it does take away from the natural briny oyster flavor. Honestly, if you don't usually like oysters, you'd probably like these since they don't taste super oyster-y. Lobster dumplings: 9/10 - I love these. Perfect consistency with a great sauce. The only downside is I'm allergic to the spicy sauce (it has nuts), which I'm told really elevates them. Sides: The garbanzo bean curry is a solid staple and great with rice. The eggplant was good but nothing special. The cauliflower was 10/10 - perfect crunch, great spice, and a little acidity. Curry butter chicken ramen: 7/10 - The broth is a bit too thick to really be ramen, but the flavor is unmatched. (Also contains nuts.) Lamb shank: 10/10 - The lamb fell right off the bone, and the sauce was thick, flavorful, and slightly spicy. Parking: Small lot, but mostly street parking. I will be going back!

It had a sweet dressing but was also savory with the potato. -Lobster dumplings: Great, very flavorful, particularly the curry, which was nice and spicy. -Blue cheese chicken kebab: I was pleasantly surprised by this dish--while I probably wouldn't order it again, it wasn't too blue cheesy, which I liked. -Lamb chop: OK, this appetizer was not on the tasting menu, but it's a MUST ORDER too--very tender, perfectly cooked. -Branzino: I liked it, nicely prepared. -Goat biryani: If you like traditional goat biryani (I do!), this dish is perfect for you. -Sichuan eggplant: I like eggplant, but this item was just OK--we each tried one piece but didn't go back. We picked up our order about 3-4 minutes after getting the "ready" text and it was still before the estimated pickup time, but the food honestly wasn't that warm which is wild because everytime I pick up Indian food from any place even if I am a bit late it is piping hot or pretty hot. I don't think they even have a heat lamp or have the AC on too high. The smell of garlic when we walked in had me excited, but unfortunately the garlic naan ended up being the best part of the meal. We ordered medium spice since we were sharing with a younger family member who likes spice but doesn't want to sweat through dinner like we do. What we didn't expect was how sweet everything would be. The tikka masala tasted like sweet yogurt with a little garam masala for color. The chicken vindaloo was even more confusing. Vindaloo is usually tangy and vinegary, but this one was also sweet. It honestly tasted more like sweet tomato sauce than anything resembling a vindaloo. Nothing tasted bad in a spoiled sense, it was just very Americanized and very very sweet. The two stars are for three things: the clean location, the fast friendly service, and the garlic naan. On my last visit, I had the Lychee Ceviche, Barrah Kebab, Mushroom Khichdi (highly recommend), Dal Musaafar (also a must-order), Laal Maas, Lamb Chop Sulfiyan Biryani, and Brussel Sprouts -- so I already had a strong impression of how layered and ambitious the menu could be coming into this meal. This time around, the experience felt even more intentional -- not just in individual dishes, but in how everything was meant to be combined. The Paani Puri was easily the most fun dish of the night. Each puri came filled with spiced potato and chickpeas, paired with a lineup of flavored waters -- Yogurt Chili, Passion Fruit, Guava, Mango, and Traditional Tamarind. We ended up tasting the waters individually first, then building our own combinations. The tamarind was smoky and nostalgic, while the guava leaned especially exotic, and the passion fruit came in as a close second with its bright tropical notes. I also tried mixing the traditional tamarind with mango, which oddly created a more Hispanic-leaning flavor profile -- sweet, tangy, and super familiar in a completely different way. The passion fruit + guava combination ended up being my favorite overall. It was so light, refreshing, and interactive that we immediately ordered another round. Mithu's Coriander Shrimp was my favorite savory dish of the night. The shrimp sat in a coconut-based curry that had this mellow, toasted depth that reminded me a lot of Vietnamese chicken curry -- warm, aromatic, and comforting without being heavy. The bread soaked up the sauce perfectly, but what really made this dish stand out was how well it paired with everything else. When combined with the Chicken Tandoori Kulcha and its butters, it genuinely elevated both dishes and created one of the best bites of the entire meal. The Chicken Tandoori Kulcha came stuffed with spiced chicken and served with Kashmiri butter and fenugreek butter. On its own, it was already a buttery flavor bomb -- rich, slightly spicy, and incredibly aromatic. The Kashmiri butter brought warmth and heat, while the fenugreek butter added a refreshing, almost yogurt-like herbal note. But the real move was layering the coriander shrimp curry onto the kulcha -- that combination balanced the spice and added depth, making the dish significantly better. The Malwani Fish Curry featured unbelievably tender sea bass -- I compared it to silken tofu, almost like the filet mignon of fish. The curry itself was coconut-based with kokum, which gave it a citrusy, slightly sour edge. While I appreciated how regional and complex it felt, it leaned a bit too citrus-forward for my personal taste when eaten alone. That said, it completely transformed when mixed with rice or the biryani -- creating this incredibly cohesive, flavorful bowl that balanced everything out. The Jackfruit Kolkota Biryani was one of the dishes I was most curious about, and it delivered in a really interesting way. The jackfruit had a texture surprisingly close to meat -- similar to chicken or pork but softer -- and absorbed the spices incredibly well. The rice itself was extremely aromatic, layered with saffron, rose, and warm spices. Like many dishes here, it really shone when combined with the fish curry or dal, which added richness to the overall dish. The Daal Musaafar continues to be one of the most reliable standouts here. It's a 72-hour slow-cooked black lentil dish that comes out incredibly creamy, buttery, and rich. This time, it felt slightly saltier and a bit less creamy than I remembered, but once mixed, it balanced out nicely. It's still one of those dishes I would come back for on its own -- comforting, indulgent, and consistently one of the best things on the menu. The Nimbu Naan was thinner than the bullet naan I had on my previous visit, but that actually worked in its favor. The lemony brightness cut through the richness of the meal and made it the perfect supporting piece for soaking up dal, curry, and biryani. It added a refreshing contrast rather than just being a filler carb. The Pour Me a Slice cocktail -- winner of Truffle Masters 2026 -- was exactly as advertised. It's a truffle fat-washed rum drink designed to taste like a margarita pizza, and somehow... it really does. The savory notes, herbs, and slight cheese element came through in a way that was bizarre but incredibly accurate. Not something I'd drink every day, but easily one of the most memorable concept cocktails I've had. Despite it being Mother's Day and the restaurant running at full capacity, our waiter, Justin (with six years of experience), curated an incredibly smooth and thoughtful experience for us. The pacing, recommendations, and overall flow of the meal never felt chaotic, which is impressive given how hectic the night was. Huge thanks to Justin for really elevating the experience.

Our first dish, the Paani Puri, came out in 10 minutes. My favorite paani was the tamarind, followed by the passion fruit, yogurt, and then guava and mango. I thought the guava was a bit bland at first but it really worked well in the Puri. It took about ~30 minutes for appetizers to come out. Mithu's Coriander Shrimp (4/5): It reminds me a lot of Vietnamese / Thai curry. It's a bit pricey, but would recommend trying it. The sauce went really well with naan. Tandoori Chicken Kulcha (4/5): Delicious filling. The Kashmiri butter and fenugreek butter were very unique to melt on and add flavors. We actually had the most fun dipping the Kulcha in the shrimp sauce (4.5/5 combo haha) Entrees came out at ~50 minutes. Malwani Fish Curry (4.5/5) Inspired by West india and an incredibly tender piece of cod. The curry was very citrus forward and went excellently with naan and biryani rice. Dal Musaafer (5/5) Still fantastic, smoky, and complex. I'll get this every time we come. Jackfruit Biryani (3/5): A surprisingly good replacement texture for chicken, but I felt that it was missing the complexity of the lamb chop biryani. Nimbu Naan (4/5): Comes with three pieces and has a nice lemony flavor. I think I prefer the spice of the bullet naan. We also tried the "Pour me a Slice" cocktail, which was really a unique experience of drinking a pizza. Seriously, you can barely taste alcohol here. It's a truffle award winner but the truffle really comes out as a lingering flavor. It's really like a margarita pizza. Paid with inKind with no issues again. Another really fun experience here!

It's been about a decade since my last review of Govinda's shortly after they first opened so it's…read morehigh time that I finally update that review after being a repeat customer over that time. Lots of things changed but Govinda's largely stayed the same. The decor hasn't changed but there is some wear and tear on the walls. Still clean, food still reliably good and has the homemade taste. They change up the menu daily and now they have 3 all vegan menu days to the week: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Plus, weekdays have a themed specials that aren't necessarily Indian. They post their menus online but weekday menus are posted the day of on their menu Instagram "ghmenu". Weekend menus are typically posted on Thursday. They are still a buffet so service is minimal but it is pretty good but no frills. Unfortunately, they got rid of their salted lassi years ago so they only have mango lassi now along with mint lemonade for cold drinks. Price has gone up as well to around $18 (a little more for holidays and weekends) per person but that's to be expected. Carry out is $16.95 per meal (large take out container plus a soup, roti, salad, papadam, and dessert). You can opt of out of items but you'll still pay the same price. In the past decade, I still love their food but I can no longer eat as much to make it worth it to dine in so we've been getting take out (we took a brief break from buffets but I missed them so we went the take out route). One take out meal lasts me 2 meals at home so it's a no brainer (husband finishes the take out container in one sitting though). Plus, I have kids now and they definitely aren't good eaters so it didn't make sense for them to eat in. Over the last few months in Houston, we typically go once every 2-3 weeks because my picky kids absolutely love their saag paneer. I got them al a carte saag paneer ($10 for a half container, $5 for a half container of rice, $7 for a small container of an entree) until someone there suggested I just order an entree because it's the same price but you get more. And their plastic containers are limited. I started doing it but then one day, the main guy (manager?) wasn't happy since the big container was just rice, saag paneer, and maybe a little bit of dal makhani. I was a little miffed because if we ate in and all they ate was saag paneer, it would be okay. That aside, I noticed someone mentioned food allergies. The reason why I order Al a carte and segregate their take out container is because my youngest is allergic to wheat, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, avocado, pineapple, and kiwi. Their food is usually labeled but I like asking to be sure. On days they serve something that contains nuts, we just don't go (unless it's only in the dessert). My kids usually like the same things and we only go on non-vegan days. The general consensus is vegan days' food tends to be spicier. My youngest is okay with spice, but my eldest who is super picky won't eat it if it's too spicy. Plus, I love their makai kofta. If I'm in town and I see they have makai kofta, we are THERE. However, I noticed that their menu isn't always set in stone. One day, they didn't have my favorites but we went because I didn't want to cook and THEY HAD MALAI KOFTA. I was so pleased. If you love potatoes, their batada vada is divine (but moderately spicy). I also enjoy the BBQ tofu but they usually only offer it on vegan days so I haven't had it in a long while. They have special menus on holidays but they're vegan so I have unfortunately never tried any holiday menus. We moved but when I'm in town, we make sure to drive up north to eat here at least once. We absolutely miss Govinda's and my kids ask for their beloved saag paneer even when we're not in Houston. I should ask if they can part with the recipe! Haha.... We ordered catering in 2024 for my eldest's birthday! Even the non-vegetarians enjoyed it and you get a lot of food for less than $500. You choose from certain dishes but it still covered many of my Govinda favorites, if not all. Honestly, we'd do it again just for fun with close friends and family and have leftovers for at least a week after splitting it up with everyone. Price has probably increased though.

The grounds of the temple is well manicured and neat with flowers. A big red sign read, "Govinda" was positioned so that I wouldn't miss it. As soon as I walked in at lunch time, the restaurant was damn near empty with only two families. The host immediately sat me at a table front of the buffet line. There was a strong lingering smell of pine-sol and Mr. Clean in the air. Of course, that indication told me that the restaurant was clean. The items on the buffet line was plenty, but limited. I got the rice, tofu curry, chaat marsala, and some vegetables. Everything except for the chaat was bland. It wasn't very easy to eat while the smell of cleaning supplies was in the air. It reminded me of sitting in a bucket of cleaning chemicals while eating a meal. The tofu curry tasted only like turmeric, but no salt or pepper or anything. The rice was super bland. The chaat marsala was very tasty and well seasoned. I finished off with desserts which both options were tasty. I hope to return to try their holiday menu, but I think today was a bad day for the cooks.
