A nice restaurant with a good variety of traditional American meals. Breakfasts and brunches are the best!

Upon entering it was decent, clean, decor was sub par not the best. No menu listed but a monitor showing digital pics of dishes. The owner took my order; she was nice, friendly. It seemed like they were a bit over each other in the kitchen or with orders. I waited about 30 minutes but after inspecting bag they forgot to include the side of spaghetti and yams which were pretty small for $7 each. No music playing but in the next room they had a football game playing on tv. I ordered the fried chicken dinner for me with mac + cheese and cabbage. The chicken and mac + cheese were decent but cabbage was a bit dry, unflavorful. I also ordered the meatloaf for my other half with mac & cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. He said it was good. The spaghetti was good but the container was cracked and leaked in the bag. Yams were average, u can bypass them. Overall experience was decent but not superb. At least I patronize them.

I see there is a new owner and I was so disappointed this time in the $79 cost for family meal to much for the quantity of food that was given and the presentation of the food look like it was heated up in styrofoam containers toxic (see pics)!! The dressing was good stove top with gravy, mac cheese noodles were melted cheese in a styrofoam container warmed up into the microwave, the chicken was good, but it was soggy because it was next to my greens, the yam's some were not done so they were hard. And they tasted watered down.It wasn't good! The taste of the food it was not like mama's.

I read one review that said the place was dark and gloomy. That is not the case at all. The food is outstanding. I had the crispy stuffed chicken. I've had this same meal (although it wasn't crispy) at 5 or so other local restaurants over the years and Mattone's was the best hands down. I tried my friend's meal, Rigatoni Contadina, and it was excellent as well. I just went here last night and I've already told a couple of friends about this place. I'll certainly be visiting again.

Mattone has a pretty standard menu of Italian food like spaghetti. A lot of the familiar. The flavors may not be as good as they used to be so just know that and it will seem like better quality. Certainly the happy hour is the best time to come. It's expensive already so save a few bucks and it makes things quite an improvement. There's a lot of what to expect on the menu. Cocktails and pasta of course. They took forever taking everyone's order and then there was even more waiting. It's about $12 for the cheapest cocktails. They have a few bucks off martinis at the happy hour thankfully. A serious lack of vegetarian choices. There's even salads covered in bacon and pancetta. Has a few weekly specials to check out. It's $20 for the classics specials on Thursdays. Among the options are lasagna and spaghetti. This also comes with a choice of soup so you get lots with this. Actually a pretty filling meal. They can make the spaghetti without meatballs and stuff. Got to say it gets busy. It's only open in evenings. There's limited options for vegetarians.

The cheeseburger was okay, but the patty was smaller than expected and could have used a bit more seasoning to really stand out. It wasn't bad, just a little underwhelming compared to other spots. The loaded fries were a highlight--topped with cheese, Italian beef, and fresh jalapeños. They were flavorful and absolutely massive, easily a meal on their own. We also had the breaded steak sandwich, which was decent but could have used some jalapeños for extra flavor. Portion-wise, it was very generous and easily enough for two people to share. The chicken fingers were just okay--good size, but again, a bit more seasoning would have helped. The mushrooms were solid, and the onion rings were better than most--big and crispy--but there were quite a few broken pieces. We also tried the famous cannoli shake, which tasted exactly like you'd expect--a cannoli in liquid form. If you like cannolis, you'll probably enjoy it. Overall, not a bad spot with generous portions and friendly service, but some items--especially the burgers--could use a bit more flavor and a larger patty to really stand out.

They always have a crowd and that's expected because there's not many other great places besides this. A lot of beers to choose from. There's a pretty great variety and they always rotate. Beers are the main thing of course. It's got a pretty surprising amount to choose from. There's a lot of these on tap. More in cans. Pretty great variety. A lot are IPAs but there's a few others. It's about $8 a pint. Kind of a lot but they make smaller batches of these. Best one we had of these was the Hazy In The Name Of. This is a New England Hazy IPA, a classic style. Made with citrone and nectaron hops. There's notes of citrus, lime, passionfruit, and peach. Has a few things to munch on. It's about $7 for the Knotty Pretzels. Comes in a big bag. These are a great combination and big enough for sharing. For sure there's lots of great beers. It's actually open daily which is especially rare for a brewery to be honest. They sometimes have food trucks.

While I'd liked the beers I'd been able to try in the past, it was nice to see their taproom. It's basically 2 halves, with the bar on one side, then a more cozy area with lounge chairs and tables and high tops on the other. There are TVs on both sides, so you'll be able to watch whatever game is on no matter which side you sit. It was also nice to see they had the Chicago Sports Network channel, the new channel for Bulls/Sox/Hawks games, as a lot of places/people don't have it. They had quite a big tap list, I tried 4 throughout the night-2 week vacation, Gold as Hell, Movies on Mars, Black Eclipse. All good, the first 2 were definitely my favorites. They sell a few snack items, or you can bring food in. Bartender seemed like a really cool guy. No real street parking, but there's a big shared lot in back with plenty of space. Very glad I finally made the trip out here, and would happily come back when there's some new beers on tap.
