I've been dealing with an assortment of health and stress issues for years, much of which I've been holding in my neck, head, shoulders and back. Since it had been a long time since I've had a massage, I made an appointment with Kathleen for an 80 minute session based on her glowing reviews. She has an easygoing personality and made me feel comfortable from the get-go. Kathleen explained the different massage techniques that she uses and after asking which areas of my body I wanted her to focus on, she went straight to work on my muscles, customizing along the way. Kathleen indicated where my trigger points were and told me that if they're not taken care of early on, they can take root and spread. I've never seen a massage therapist like Kathleen in terms of her ability to get to the core of whatever's bothering you. I came to her with a particular part of my back that was constantly sore from years of schlepping around heavy shoulder bags. She got to the root of the problem within a few sessions after all that built-up pain, and now I can just go in whenever I want for a "touch-up". Before that, I was truly afraid I was going to have to stop carrying any shoulder bag, no matter how light! I also asked her about an issue I had been noticing for a long time with a muscle near my knee. She helped me understand what was going on in terms of where the muscle connected to, massaged the area, and, since I love to stretch, gave me an exercise to help as well. All better. Another thing that's a really important part of her massage is that every so often she checks in with you to make sure that the pressure is a good level for you. If you've ever had a massage from someone who just sails along without checking, you have found out the hard way what I'm talking about. And it's not just me who is crazy about Kathleen. Woke up one morning with excrutiating pain that seemed to be coming from my shoulder, radiating down my arm. I couldn't raise my left arm. After going to an orthopedist for an x-ray, then to the PT therapy, the pain level was still intense. I switched PT place for another, hoping to get relief. Both PT initial consultants diagnosed my crippling pain as "tendonitis, possible torn tendon", one PT suggested I would be facing surgery!!! A couple of other diagnoses. When I couldn't get relief through these two different PT appointments, I tried chiropractic. Waste of time!!! Found Kathleen's name online, desperately searching (after a weary and frustrating and painful month!!) and thought the myofascial release technique could be a strategy to get me out of the crippling and very sharp pains. Well, within 5 minutes of me showing Kathleen where my pain was, this woman did not need an MRI or x-ray or any other evaluation testing. She zoomed into the trigger points in the shoulder blade (and found many others connected to it) and began my therapy. After 5 visits, major---MAJOR healing is taking place!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even begin to explain this miracle in finding her! Someone who knows the muscles and tendons and all the 'ropy' connections that get twisted into knots that pull on the other tendons that then trigger crippling pain!! What a magician she is. And yes, she is expert in knowing where to find the trigger points and the exact pressure necessary to break them down. I am now, almost pain free! She made me aware of what I needed to do to correct the situation that had brewed into this physical disability and if you follow her instructions and see her regularly, she gets your body into healing mode!!! My first massage with Kathleen was AH-MAZING. She has a strong and firm hand so that she can really get those knots. You can tell that she has been trained well because when massaging the face she goes along the lymphatic drainage and knows all the pressure points. Instead of focusing on each body part for equal amounts of time, she assessed my problem areas and focused on them more.
