I just moved to Kew Gardens and have been having really bad acne. Acupuncture has helped me in the past, and I saw Ruby's sign on the walk from home one day, so I decided to come in for an appointment for the first time last week. Ruby was extremely pleasant to talk with and gave me some helpful information about my eating habits that will help improve my skin. She started off the session by having William, one of her coworkers, give me a message first. William's massage really helped relax me. After the massage, Ruby started her acupuncture session, and although I am extremely afraid of needles, I didn't feel most of the needles. The ones that I did feel were merely tiny pinches, which really speaks to the expertise of Ruby. I have been to some acupuncturist in which I felt every needle going into me. Within just one week of Ruby's treatment and suggested herbal medication, my skin improved immensely. I have to say that Ruby and her expert masseuses really get the job done. I have been seeing Ruby for many years and I've come back to her after 5 years and it's like I have never left. My wife and I both have been to ruby. My wife for sciatic nerve pain and me for arthritis. The medical massage although painful was great. I didn't know what to expect with Acupuncture as i have never tried it and only had been treated by Western medicine. I have a range of medical conditions and Ruby has helped me with all of them. I had been walking past Ruby's house for the last 5 years and finally made my way to the back, down the stairs, and inside in October. I was having problems with overall wellness, aches and pains. I am a big believer in accupuncture and have had many sessions at a few places over 18 years, in manhattan, Queens and long Island. I came here having bad back pain, and decided it would be the closest. When you are in pain , distance matters. This was a huge mistake. The owner Ruby said i would need to get 30 min massage with a guy that does massage and then accupuncture (and have to pay for both) right there was a red flag, I said I'd rather just have accupuncture, she gave me a dirty look! I should have gone with my instinct and left. While I was asked to go to the room, undress and lay down, I noticed there were at least 4/5 used, open needles lying on the floor. I was NOT happy to see this dangerous hazard. And I kept hearing the guy (he is definitely not a new York state licensed massage therapist) coughing. When the owner came in briefly, I told her it seems the guy about to start the massage has been coughing and I'd rather not have anyone sick (my backs killing me already, add coughing to that). She said oh no, he's not sick!!! I am angry at myself for not leaving. It's kind of not easy when you are undressed and laying down with a bad back. So the "massage" began, which was nothing but him just being very rough and shaking my whole body, horrible!! Signs on every wall that said please pay 20%tip to the masseuse, seriously! If any of you have been to a good accupuncture place, you know this is never the routine! Lastly, I got a few needles put in for a brief amount of time, and time.to go. The used needles still lying around the floor, nobody had still bothered to pick them and dispose them correctly. Once I was out, the first thing the owns said was ,tip the massage guy (who speaks very little english). This is a horrible, money hungry practice. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. I had no relief for my back coming here. I am never going here. But I will say accupuncture is amazing when done with the right therapist, in the right place. I came across Ruby Acupuncture Center after getting a bad cold and could not go all the way to Manhattan to get treated by my usual acupuncturist. I live nearby and have been going for the last few months. I am satisfied with the results, both with acute (cold/flu) and chronic conditions (neck/back pain, hormonal weirdness). I was very happy to have found a place nearby that offers comprehensive one-stop treatment, (acupuncture, massage, cupping, aromatherapy, herbs, diet) without having to go to different therapists or having to know how to speak Chinese. As other reviewers have mentioned, Ruby is very knowledgeable about various modes of treatment, and the three massage therapists have all been extremely therapeutic. FYI - If you are used to Swedish style of massage that is about relaxation and no pain, then you kind of need to prepare yourself mentally to go in with a "no holds barred & tap-out if you want them to ease off" approach to massage. Also, someone mentioned I looked like I was attacked by a Kraken after cupping, and that is exactly what it feels like. The results are all worth it. I was traumatized by going to see this woman. I have had a terrible lower back problem for several years and last spring I went to see Ruby. She is not a true healer and should not be in this business, in my opinion. I have had bodywork for much of my adult life and I know what a good practitioner should deliver, the most important thing being that you feel the person cares about you and is attentive (besides obviously having the skills to help you). I had 5 sessions with her and then my back problem got worse due to the heavy duty massage. I never felt like this woman actually cared about me, she did not smile when I arrived to the office for example, a basic. And she actually solicited me to do a positive Yelp review for her after 2 sessions which is unethical! In addition, after the 2nd session, she coerced me into purchasing a pkg of sessions which I really didn't want to do (when one is in pain for a long time, you're vulnerable). I originally did not want to write such a negative review but as a former teacher of thirty plus years, I believe in feedback. The shame of it all is that Ruby has the acupuncture skills and knowledge, but falls very short in critical interpersonal ways. read more

Ruby treated me earlier this year for my Crohn's disease when it was in an active flare with acupuncture and massage. It helped me out for a few months and I highly recommend her. I wanted to write an update review on my treatments with Ruby. They have all helped my digestive issues wonderfully. I still go to keep on top of it but NOW I also wanted to share how she helped me with my back. I recently picked up carton of books that was to heavy for me and I severely pulled my back out. The orthopedic doctor said I sprained it and slightly pulled a disc out. I was in intense pain and called Ruby asking if acupuncture would help my back and she said yes, so I made an appointment and I was so glad I did!!! Ruby's Acupuncture combined with the massage therapists immediately lessened my pain and I felt like I was on the road to recovery. I went for a about 5 treatments and when I returned to the orthopedic doctor he was surprised at how fast I was recovering!!! Ruby's treatments are effective, painless and relaxing. I had been suffering with migraine headaches all my adult life--normally triggered by stress. Over a series of only 4 weekly sessions, Ruby applied acupuncture needles to open up the channels where my Chi had been blocked. My treatments with Ruby were always complemented by massage therapy with her staff masseuse, William (who seems to have the strongest hands on earth). Williams full body massages focused mainly on loosening up the areas of my cranium, neck, and back where tension was stored that brought out the migraines. William applied a variety of techniques, triggering various pressure points, kneeding through and loosening muscles. I'm happy to report that with the combination of acupuncture, massage, and stretching on my own, my migraines seem to have ceased at this point and my back/neck/cranial tension has lessened significantly. Ruby has recommended that I return on a less regular basis for routine maintenance. I appreciate that Ruby recognizes the progress of her patients and prescribes only the level of treatment needed. I highly encourage anyone with any pain or ailment to go to Ruby. She knows what she's doing and treats with not only acupuncture, but also massage and herbs to ensure full effectiveness of her acupuncture treatments. read more
