Easily the WORST experience I've ever had with acupuncture…read more There was a great place in Jackson Heights that I used to go to, but Comuni moved to Forest Hills, so I decided to try Wan-Mei Woo. She says all of 5 words to me before she has me cram myself face down on a medical table. ChinaHerb/Woo does not have the standard massage/acupuncture bed with a face down headrest. Instead they have a flat table and give you basically a hemorrhoid pillow to rest your forehead on. This is awful for a couple reasons: it's claustrophobic and gives no air to breathe, and also, if you have a neck issue, it bends your neck backward in an awkward position. It's not relaxing at all. She, then, uncrumpled some emergency blanket from some corner of the room, threw it over me and left (no mention of how long). Because the walls are not built up to the ceiling, I listen to two competing soundtracks and EVERY word of the other patients' conversations and check-in. The only good thing I can say is that menstrual cycle of the neighboring patient seems to be doing much better today! The doctor comes in and out of the room to grab supplies for the other rooms, but says nothing to me. After a total of 20 minutes, she comes back into my room, crumples up the emergency blanket and stashes it in the corner--I wonder if this thing is ever washed (certainly wasn't washed between my leaving and the next patient being ushered into my room). She asks if I feel better. I say not really. Digging her knuckles into the back of my head, she asks if I feel pain. I say, it's certainly not comfortable. She says, yes, but do you feel pain? I say, well, what you're doing hurts. She asks me to turn my neck from side to side, and says, it's better than when you came in. But the important thing, and the reason Woo is not trustworthy, is because she never asked me to turn my neck when I came in. So, really, she has nothing to compare and she is just fobbing me off. Then she leaves the room. I'm not sure if this means we're done or if she's coming back or what. Eventually, I collect my things and head to the front desk to pay $85 for less than 30 minutes. TLDR: The doctor was rude, the "bed" was not professional, the practice seemed unsanitary, and the experience did absolutely nothing good for me.

But I threw out my back & I've had it with the steroid injections & bs. So I spoiled myself. They just reopened on Willoughby in Bushwick and oh my lanta!!!! It's a much more intimate space than they had 10 years ago, when you go for the community option I think there's only three beds now. Not only does the bed heat up, but the wonderful Dr Patchi put a heating lamp on my back for my cramps. LUXURY I swear this was a spa like experience! Patchi is super warm & chill, and SO intuitive with her hands. She also used a tens unit which I completely love. She is so so so skilled, and that excellent skill is overshadowed in the best way by her warmth. When we were done I slowly sat up and stretched my back a bit, and felt pops where I've been really needing to feel pops! She also did some needling for an ankle I broke last year that I'm still healing, and I'm really impressed by how much that worked. Of course it isn't magic, I still have cramps and my back is still rough, but both are much much much more manageable after just one session. I was tipped off to a pay what you can day coming up soon, and I really really really appreciated that (& immediately booked a spot). Being broke sucks, this economy sucks, looking for a job sucks, and it sucks even more when you feel like you're being judged for not having much money (esp since Bushwick is turning snooty). That tip was such a compassionate move, and it's so kind that they're having to pay what you can day!!!

I couldn't find practitioners I felt comfortable with, took insurance and had convenient hours. Dr. Pak ticks off those boxes. Her office is pristine and the longest I've sat in the waiting room was my first visit because I had to fill out forms. I initially started seeing her for fatigue and overall balance. I am still seeing her because I have various chronic issues. She has given me relief for many of them and some unexpected potentially covid related things. If you have pain, anxiety, fatigue, long covid symptoms, etc., try acupuncture. The bonus is you get to relax in a dimly lit room with soothing music for about 25 minutes. I think we could all use some of that nowadays.

She immediately knew where was troubling just by pressing some spots on my stomach. I've been going here for five times now, the last time when I had CTS that was hurting for more than a week, it just took her one day to cure it . I might sound like I'm exaggerating, but you would never understand until you meet Dr.pak.

When I became pregnant, my mom (who is not local) started researching postpartum delivery services…read more She was going to come help with my baby for a few weeks but not the full month, so thought it'd be good to try the service. We sampled a couple other spots and went with Chen Mommy. It's walkable from Murray Hill LIRR station if you want to go and sample them and don't have a car. They did seem to be the best option in the NYC area given that they are inspected by health bureau and had the best balance of taste and Taiwanese style home cooking. We chose 21 days because it was flexible enough to spread out over the full month. The portions are huge even at the tasting, so it was likely that my husband and I were not going to finish each delivery in one day. We pre booked in advance for my Oct 2024 due date. The prices did go up in May 2024 so we booked in advance of that. It was easy to contact them to start right after I came home from the hospital. After finishing the full 21 days, I can agree with other reviewers that the dishes can feel repetitive over time. There's good variety if you look at just a 1 week window, but after awhile it is the same. The meat quality is generally not the best, but I think my husband and I concluded the vegetable variety is the best thing from this service. I also generally liked all the desserts. The one problem with this service is that it is banchan style and there are so many plastic containers used. We wish they just put everything into a bento box style so that there isn't so much plastic container waste. They cook with very little oil and salt for a good reason, but I began feeling more recovered after about 1.5weeks and we started adding salt for additional flavor, especially to the soups. We requested a couple days skipped here and there, and also requested for one less soup dish (and double up on other dishes) since it was difficult to finish those. They would send two extras of vegetable or meat dishes which was nice. The 麻油雞 which is an everyday item in the 3rd week wasn't very good, so I ended up asking to switch back to the kidney (which is an everyday item in the 2nd week). In terms of delivery timing, we were told our delivery window would typically be around 9-10am, but it was really inconsistent throughout the 21 days. Sometimes the food would not be delivered until noon. This generally was not a big deal since we would usually need to finish leftovers from prior days, but it can be a bit annoying if you expected to prepare the breakfast or lunch food at a certain time. In total we had 4 different drivers deliver, who would either call or text when the food is delivered (my doorman building only allows food delivery to be dropped off at the lobby). Overall I think the service is worthwhile especially since cooking or deciding what food to order (even if NYC has a ton of food options) is just an additional task to worry about in that first month postpartum, so it is reducing decision making. For my second child I would probably only do it for 7days though. FYI I only formula fed.

It's a bit pricey but it gives you Chinese comfort food for post partum when your mom isn't around to do some cooking. It's just like how my mom used to cook. I would definitely recommend for anyone who is focusing on their newborn and doesn't want to deal with cooking for the day or ordering food. Food was tasty and healthy not sweet nor salty you can add more if you prefer more yourself.

The MDs were at a loss. Pure luck introduced Dad to Frank Huo, who was at Columbia University School of Medicine, and his cohort at MIT. They were doing a seminar on Quan Ji and it was free except $25.00 for each participant to pay for the meeting room. I believe the course/seminar lasted seven days. They provided literature and a cassette with pronunciations of a song/chant that they would sing and meditate to. I attended the first several days of the course with my dad but had to return to work. He was debilitated he couldn't dance or do some of the movements but participated in the song. The doctor brought an herbal tea and my day was instructed to drink it at home as well as i. class. Frank and his partner laid hands on each person each day and by the end of the week my dad, who was a positive person anyway, was very optimistic. On his next Oncology appointment, his tumors looked smaller and the cancer had ceased to spread. On his six months visit his tumors had shrunk. In 8 or ten months he was clean of cancer and stayed that way for 5 plus years. I wish he lived in Arizona where I live now.
