But a year ago I took the drivers test and barely passed. He gave me an exam, put me on the slit lamp, and seemed not to worry. I October I was having blurry vission. I came back and once again Dr. Spenser gave me an exam including the slit lamp. He told me my contacts were dirty and to buy a different solution. Never mentioned the word cataracts. It helped a bit but by February I could barely see street signs. I called and his receptionist told me to see an opthomologist. After five minutes the opthomologist said I has bad cataracts. The surgeon examined me two weeks later and said the same thing. I had cataract surgery in June and now I see 20/30 without glasses. Due to Covid they ask everyone to wait in the car. As I walked there they were nice enough to let me wait inside because it was a really hot day the day of my appointment. Here's where I'm like eh I probably won't come back here. I struggle with my insurance and eye doctors. They all assume I have "Davis" which I do..but I pay additional for blue cross blue shields vision plan. No one has ever heard of this and they question me on it. When I called for my appointment the receptionist said oh I found you under Davis vision. Sigh..ok. When I filled out my paperwork and brought both of my insurance cards I was told no I already got you. When checking out I was told I have a co pay, I stated I do not with my blue cross blue shield. She then started explaining I only don't have a copay if I don't get glasses or contacts...this didn't sound right to me but I wasn't going to argue as my prescription didn't change and I've been wearing my glasses more so than my contacts. I got home and looked up my insurance information..I definitely do not have a copay. I recommend knowing your insurance if you use this doctor.

BEWARE Wolf in Sheep Clothing!!! BEWARE!!!!!!!…read more As you can see from the picture attached, Rubenstein looks smart and respectable. But BEWARE! PandaPop was diagnosed by Rubenstein with Fuchs Dystrophy. Rubenstein said PandaPop needed EMERGENT surgery in the next week and PLUS while treating the Fuchs Dystrophy, he might as well do cataract surgery on my eye, because everyone eventually needs it. (even though I was in my forties and had no signs of cataract) I got four other opinions: Yale, Northwestern, UIC, and The Mayo Clinic. All four made the same diagnosis HOWEVER, ALL other doctors said to DO NOTHING. "NEVER let anyone touch your eyes unless it is getting difficult to see" they advised. When I told Mayo (in Minnesota ) what my Chicago doctor recommended, the Mayo doctor made my mouth drop wide open when he asked "Was that Jonathan Rubenstein at Rush that recommended this new surgery!!!?!!. (I never told Mayo the doctor or hospital I saw in Chicago)......The Mayo doctor said, "Rubenstein is known nationwide for doing unnecessary surgeries and doing latest surgeries because of his ego and wanting to speak at ophthalmology conferences" !!!!!! PandaPop never got the surgery Rubenstein recommended. This was 15 years ago! My eyes are fine..... and the "emergent surgery needed" by Rubenstein was a LIE !!!!!! [But since Rubenstein makes so much money for Rush (with his unnecessary surgeries), they promoted him to Chair of Opthalmology]

That said, the follow-up required several visits, which felt a bit drawn out. In hindsight, I probably would have benefited from seeing an ophthalmologist sooner--someone who specializes in that type of condition. The clinic does seem busy, especially on the medical side, which usually speaks to its reputation. While I didn't personally see an ophthalmologist here, there was clearly steady demand for their services. One downside: the pricing on glasses felt high, similar to what you'd see at larger chain retailers. It's worth comparing prices elsewhere before making a purchase. For perspective, I later visited University Ophthalmology Associates (UOA) on Old Orchard Rd in Skokie for cataract care, and had a very positive experience there. Overall, this clinic is a convenient option and I'd consider coming back, particularly for general eye care. Just keep in mind--if you're dealing with something more complex, it may be worth exploring specialist care early and checking pricing before committing.

Dr Conti at the Milwaukee Avenue Eye Center did a biopsy and found that it was Basel Cell Carcinoma. He scheduled a surgery and two weeks later he removed the cancer. The surgery was uncomplicated and he did a great job of grafting some skin to help cover the opening of the removal of the cancer. The cancer was completely removed and you can't tell I had surgery on my eye. The only difference is that I will not grow eyelashes on my bottom eyelid. I would highly recommend Dr. Conti at the Milwaukee Avenue Eye Center.

Had an excellent experience working with Dr. Albin. I have been using multifocal contact lenses for…read moreyears, and continually told that I would need to forego distance in favor of my near-sight as I have a job sitting at a computer all day. Dr. Albin put a lot of time into working on a better option for my distance. Unfortunately, I could not get used to this new prescription as I felt disoriented the entire time. I asked if I could pick up a second sample a week later ... a sample of the original script he started with ... and they are perfect! When I went to pick up the second sample I didn't expect to meet with Dr. Albin again, but he met with me and once again spent a great deal of time testing them ... I am so happy - distance is much better than what I've dealt with for several years prior. The office staff is efficient, friendly ... and most importantly - on time. My only comment is that I don't remember contact appointments being so expensive - remember when it was one appointment for both glasses and contact lenses? I am probably dating myself! My insurance has good coverage for the eyeglass portion, but apparently not for the contact lens portion.

Barking out commands like I was there to listen to her whims and fancies, and she was doing me a favor by even caring to examine me. I was willing to excuse it as it just being her general demeanor, but I did easily notice the difference between how she interacted with me and how she was with the follow on patient after me. Not sure if it was because of the color of my skin or my gender, but that's what it looked like. Extremely disappointing in that respect, I was hoping to make this my go-to eye place because of its proximity to work.
