This doctor may have several offices in the city but I was completely unimpressed by him. I was referred to him from Illinois Masonic's E.R. Department in the same building on Wellington. His staff were not impressive either...non attentive, unprofessional. Dr. Sy may be competent and even brilliant in some ways. But I found him to be rude, abrasive, even rough, in his care, with no allowance for discussion and almost no eye contact. I have seen many physicians in the last couple of years, but Dr. Sy is the worse. My regular opthamologist is Dr. Lopez who is WONDERFUL. However I was experiencing eye pain and Dr. Lopez was not available, so I was referred to Dr. Sy. What a waste of my time!!!! His bedside manner is horrible. When he finally came to the room to see me, he was rushed and barely let me get a word in. He seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and was offended when I presented a question to him. After rushing me out of the room, I thought of another question for him and asked the receptionist if she could call him to the front desk. He never came to the desk and the response I received from him was very generic. The appointment was a complete waste of my time!!! If I could prevent my insurance carrier from paying for this wasted visit I would. Unfortunately most patients don't take the time to review physicians online, so I'm sure he will have more patients referred to him with the same results. Reading the other reviews on here, they are true! Mind you, it's 3:50am right now & I can't stop thinking about how horrible our experience was with Dr. Harold Sy! He was the rudest most disrespectful Dr ever!! How in the world he is still in practice, I do not know?! I think it may be because he might be getting alot of low income people that are on Medicaid & they have no other choice than to go to him. If I could give him 0 stars, I would. I went with my dad today to his appt, my poor dad. If I hadn't gone with him, this Dr would've answered 0 questions, which he pretty much didn't even answer the ones we asked anyway & when he did, he was the RUDEST!!! Please, if you care about your loved one, DO NOT take him to this Dr. Pay the out of pocket money you can to take them somewhere else, it's not worth it. This review is for Harold Sy. He is the worst human on the Earth and don't deserve to be a doctor. He forgot that he is under oath to follow the professional ethics. Following is the details of his attitude, which will help readers to know about his unprofessional and discourteous attitude. I was under trauma for a week because of his attitude. I am diabetic and need periodical check up of my eyes. For a routine checkup when I visited Dr. Harold Sy he advised that I need an eye surgery for my developing cataract. After a month from the date of my visit to Harold Sy, I visited my primary care physician for routine checkup. He told me that he never got a report about my visit to Harold Sy and he did not know about my upcoming eye surgery. My next appointment with Harold Sy was my pre-surgery appointment. When I visited his office, I told his assistant that my primary care physician did not get my last visit's report. The assistant performed the checkup. However, he returned shortly and told me that the Harold Sy does not need to see me. I was a bit puzzled. I don't know of any doctor who would refuse to see a patient after a confirmed appointment. This was my pre-surgery appointment where I had several questions for the doctor. When I insisted that I have questions to ask about my surgery, he saw me with all his anger and talked to me in a very disrespectful tone and screaming voice. As if I did something wrong to him. And in rage, he answered all my questions "I DON'T KNOW". I believe the questions I asked were fairly straightforward: How long does a typical surgery take? - "I don't know" What the do's & don't before & after surgery? - "I don't know" Do I have to visit my primary care physician before the surgery? - "I don't know" Do I need any test before surgery? - "I don't know" Typically, how successful are laser eye surgeries? - "You may become blind" If it were possible, I would give him 0 stars. read more
